I absolutely love The Lord of the Rings. I am currently reading The Two Towers and it's really good. I have to admit though, it can be hard to read at times because J.R.R. Tolkien can get into so much detail that it becomes boring. But I love the action-packed scenes and the dialog. Also, if anyone's seen any of the movies, then you'll notice that it can be nothing like the book at times. For example, where are all the songs that they sing in the book? But the movies do have an excellent cast, I'll give them that much.

Extremely great series... If you really want to learn more about middle earth, read The Silmerillion. First few chapters are rather dull, but after that, if you can learn how to read it so it makes sense, it is a great book.
On a somewhat off topic note. The newest Tolkien book released, has nothing to do with middle earth. however, it is two old translated Norse poems, both are very good.
