I'm actually looking forward to this. Disney has made some amazing movies in the past and this time they are working jointly with a big-time Japanese animation company! Sure Disney has had their flops, but the last Disney movie I saw (Enchanted) was excellent. I think it's about time they dropped the computer graphics and got back to good ol' ink and paper. I was getting tired of all the CG.

I was getting tired of all the CG. I'm glad to see another open minded person addressing the subject. Although I still don't know what to expect, I do want this film to turn out well and be a big hit for Disney. I read that they're planning to stay true to anime's Japanese influence afterall, so I'm thrilled about that also. You're too right about the "CG" thing. There have been some truly beautiful and entertaining CG films, but a lot of what I see these days appears to be in the same reproduced style. Plotwise, I have no idea what they're like, because I stopped watching kid's films when I stopped being a kid. Haha. But I agree, I'd love to see Disney go back to hand-drawn animation, like Miyazaki.

I'd watch and give it a chance. After that, then I'd pass judgment. I grew up on Disney and loved the majority of their films and cartoons. From what I have been reading from these posts, specifically the ones doubting in Disney's ability to deliver, the majority of them just assume a horrible outcome. I say drop the elitist attitude, give Disney a chance, then pass judgment.

And I'm with you, hand-drawn animation beats CG any day! D:

I've never been an elitist, but I was extremely doubtful at first. however, I've turned a bit apathetic since writing my article on it (doing in depth research always helps ya know). I'm not going to say anything either way. I've also been seeing a lot of Disney movies since then, and I know that they can do a good job. I was a just a tad worried because at the time, they hadn't really produced anything terribly good in a while. Ah well, wait and see. . .

I've done a bit of research into this and thought you guys might appreciate some information.
It seems Disney actually have three projects in the pipeline, all of which are being written and animated in Japan. The first is a Japanese version of "Lilo and Stitch", which has been written to embody a lot of typical Japanese cutlure. For example, in the pilot episode, the main character (who is now a Japanese girl, not a Hawaiian girl) dances with other characters to traditional Okinawan music while eating a bowl of rice with chopsticks. It's being made by Madhouse Studios. You may not have heard of them, but trust me, you've seen anime made by them. Check out the list on their Wiki page.
The second project hopefully won't disappoint the other fans of hand-drawn animation on this thread, despite the fact it's 3D. I've actually seen an episode of this anime and the animation is BEAUTIFUL. I can't deny it, Disney seriously chose a good set of animators when they set out to make this. It's called "Fireball", and is set in outer space following the lives of two robots, one of whom is named "Drossel" (Tutu fans insert screams here XD)
Finally, they have another anime series set to air next year called "Robocrosser". It's about a boy and a robot who enter a motorbike race.
So, there you have it. Get your facts before you flame. I'm pretty sure I've shown you doubtful elitists what's what...as long as you bothered to read this post XD Go ahead and doubt American animators, but never doubt the Japanese! Hahaha

It could go either way. It's been a while since they've had a good movie *tear* Maybe they'll surprise us? Haha They did pull of KH and that got pretty popular.

I just saw an episode of Fireball, and I must say, even though I'm a bit disenchanted with CG, the animation was wonderful. Geez, I'm all excited now! Hurry up, Disney! *squirms in seat*

Well I would like to see images and seee what the storyline is about before I make any judgements. Disney has made alot of great movies, hell Beauty & The Beast is my ultimate favorite movie ever made. So they making a anime would be very interesting to see. I haven't heard of this news, only news I heard involving Disney and anime is a japanese version of Lilo & Stitch, and I really wanna see that. I have to see how cute their Lilo is and how they make it. Cause what I heard Lilo & Stitch is really huge in Japan.
