That's right. Something can be about aestheticism without being sexual.

muninn TalaRayne gothic_lolita_chic Also, i would never do ero-lolita, or anything that's a shame to Lolita. erololi is a substyle, not a shame to lolita fashion. Fetish lolita is a shame to lolita fashion um.. Lolita IS a fetish.... I hate to break it to you, but it's the fetish of women dressing up and acting like under age girls ...and it's really popular. Also I don't think there is anything wrong with fetish loli even name brand put out fetish clothing.. Just though I should clear that up... sorry that was a bit off topic...
Wow for someone who tries to promote her own Lolita clothing line it doesn't seem like you know very much about it. Just like Niimura and Sailor Jerry stated Lolita is not a fetish because it is not something that turns on the wearers but something that makes them feel elegant and sophisticated in a society where it is so common for people to dress like whores in simple words. I suggest brushing up on Lolita before stating it's a fetish around those who take Lolita seriously

A person doesn't have to feel sexy in order to feel good about the way they are dressed. I feel good in my clothes because I am confident of myself and because I am wearing clothes that represents my thoughts on the matter that even in this day and age a person can be beautiful without exuding anything sexual.

>.> I think lolita is adorable and cute when i dress in them i think they make me look like a doll. Lolita makes me think of kittens and bunnys and easter egg hunts and pretty doll collections... not sex, not anything sexual. Anything can be taken out of context and used by a pervert as a fetish... slippers for example... that dosent make them fetish... Do you look at a house slipper and think perverted thoughts? No, because it's not the intended use for it but some people have slipper fetishes... same goes for Lolita, it's not intended in the least bit to be sexual but perverts (namely beople with ***** tendencies) take the clothing style and pervert it by associateing it with their perverted thoughts.

I'm just saying the word "Lolita" is a fetish, about underage girls. And has been around alot longer then the fashion movement. It's no coincidence that Lolita fashion is like that of a young girl. I love Lolita fashion and it's horrible that some people have perverted thoughts about little girls. But that is where the word come froms. and you don't need to be sexually aroused by lolita but some people are. I'm very serous about my lolita you just need a reality dose.
I'm sorry if this ofends you, but I know alot about the lolita fashion movement. I was in Japan when it was just getting started. I love it to death.

Lolita's "fetish" meaning only came out during the 50's when Nabokov's book was released.
Before that it was just a simple and cute nickname for girls.
So much for you knowing everything.

Actually the fashion is a wasei-eigo which means "Japanese English." It's when an English word is used in Japanese with any entirely different definition. For example, "desk" in English is a piece of furniture, but "desk" or "desku" in Japanese refers to a job position on a periodical, such as a newspaper. I think it's likely an English person who wasn't very clear on the concepts behind the Lolita fashion named it. Especially since the Japanese language doesn't have an "L" sound.

I do full understand your point, but using Lolita for the fashion Is taken from Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita" and does refer to the Idolization of young girls or in the case of Lolita fashion the fashion of young girls. It's not a bad thing.

That's why I said an American (or at least a Westerner) probably named the fashion.
There is vague similarity, in that they both pertain to the aesthetic of adolescence.
But the difference is that Lolitas do not consider their clothing sexual. That is our point of contention.

I do full understand That the Lolita fashion and it's followers except those who do it as a fetish do not find it sexual. I never said that Lolita fashion followers see it as a fetish. Just that "lolita" is a fetish. That what I have been saying!. you can read it in my first post. This is one crazy debate, we're all on the same side!

No, it was not. If you knew the links that are posted all over EGL livejournal (which is linked in this guild or the next) and sites linking out of it, you would see that most Japanese didn't even know the "meaning" of the name Lolita, therefore the name wasn't definitely given to the fashion because of Nabokov's definition. And even NABOKOV didn't say that Lolita = promiscuous young girl. It's a nickname for "Dolores", which is the girl's name in the story. The media and idiots who can't read are the ones who believed it as such. :/
NYMPHET = Promiscuous young girl =/= Lolita
All it does it take a little bit of research and Google to find out that Lolita was just originally just a regular nickname at least a century/half-century ago. And also name meaning site like thinkbabynames.com.
Nickname Breakdown: Lolita --> Lola --> Dolores "Sorrows" --> "Sorrows" --> "Mary of Sorrows"

Okay, tis always good to be on the same side :3
I was just confused as to why the complex/fetish was brought up in the first place. This is a fashion forum, and the two really aren't related.
