Jesse Aidan Mwaahahahaa! At our school, the cymbals were rarely used until I picked them up and started kicking a** with them. We don't even have the proper grips for twirls, but I suffered the bruising just so I can twirl 'em and spin 'em. And they're very heavy, to. I want to polish them so when I spin them, they flash more, and so I can blind a few of my fellow percussionists. Cymbals add so much color to an otherwise repetitive cadence. And I'm doing it alone, but I try. Carrying those heavy things high in the burning desert sun of New Mexico, with a heavy, dark uniform (black hats too), suffering the bruises willingly, and not being a single millisecond behind...ah, the good ol' days! I can't wait for Marching Season to come back! ours were like that before me and my cymbal buddy came. we didn't have to use the old ones for very long tho, cuz our director saw our pain, and bought us new cyms. ^_^

I marched them last year with two other freshman and everyone was fine with us. We all made line this year and now, we have a junior that's like 4' 7'' and and freshman that's taller than him playing them. Everyone calls them their bitches... sweatdrop

yea, in our school, if your on cymbals, your not good at percussion (unless you have choosen todo them). sorry if that hurts anyone : D

Cymbals are part of our line at my school, and we have the most fun. (I could have played Bass next year, but i missed my cymbals and chillin with my cymbal buddy instead of practicing cuz one of the basses is off 1/2 a beat and cant figure out how to play the song right.)

Exactly! we had a guy a few years ago who didn't even know where the down beat was... that made me die a little inside. and, last year we had only one cymbal because I got moved to bass cuz a guy got kicked, and i felt so sorry for him cuz he had to hold for 3 snares and play loud enough without poping the cymbals. after our last comp his arms were shaking so bad... good news tho, were gunna have 3 cymbals next year instead of just me and him. blaugh

Our school is pretty underfunded.
We don't have a cymbal line, but some of the pit fills in for parades and the cadence and stuff.
A lot of us know the basics though because someone from our drumline was on the cymbal line for a drum corps and he taught us in this "Cymbal Ensemble" thing.
He even wrote music for it and everything.
We had to share the cymbals though because there weren't enough.
We only have three pair, and they're all different sizes, and one's cracked and doesn't have a strap now actually.
The drum corps is pretty big on the cymbal line though, I think.

Well, I will admit that I was put on cymbals because I couldn't play anything else, but now I wouldn't give them up for the world! We're not looked down on or anything in our school, we're just as much a vital part of the band as everyone else. There's 3 of us~
