Delia scanned all the different flavors of tea, seriously craving the lemon tea, but realizing it wouldn't be very good with the food they'd picked out. So she settled on a more mild flavor of ice tea, and pointed to it with an eager grin, indicating that's what she wanted. "I hope it's not too much sweet stuff for you," she told him with a giggle. She'd noticed the Capri Suns, but didn't say anything. "I mean, we can get something else too." She certainly didn't mind of course, because she almost always had a sweet tooth unless she was on a health kick for some crazy reason. Usually though, she tided herself over with lots of fresh fruit and or frozen yogurt, especially during the summer. That's how the previous summer had been, after all. She almost didn't want it to slip away so fast, but now she was glad she had the rest of the seasons to spend with Jac.

Jac grabbed the tea Delia pointed out and shrugged. "Chips and dip?" he suggested. It was not sweet, and it was a good snack to have and it would last them a while. He scanned over the selection across from the beverages. He decided corn chips and bean dip were his choice. "What about you? You okay with just corn chips or do you wanna pick something else out too?"

He was ready to check out right as soon as De made her decision. Glancing outside he saw that the haze was still prevalent, but it seemed a little bit brighter. Perhaps the sun was going to burn it away after all! He hoped so.

Delia's mouth watered a little at the idea of something salty like chips and dip. Though she had just eaten breakfast a little while ago, she still felt the flutter of cravings that came with such a gloomy day. "Corn chips are delish," she replied with an eager nod, her eyes flicking over all the food they'd gotten so far. The basket she carried was becoming fairly heavy, but Jac carrying some of the load was helpful.

At the check out, Delia also noticed it was slowly becoming brighter outside. A glimmer of sun peeked through the windows, and she was practically bouncing back and forth on her heels in hopefulness.

Seeing as Delia seemed to be satisfied with corn chips, Jac made his way to check out and placed everything on the conveyor belt. They had a watermelon, a casement of strawberries, a tin of chocolate chip pound cake, four water bottles, a box of Capri Suns, a thing of tea, and chips and dip. A decent amount of food for the day. He paid and took the bags in his hand before exiting the store. "Now then, on to the beach!" He set off, happy to finally be on his way to a day of carelessness.

As they approached the warming sand of the beach, Jac could see that there were some other beach goers about, but not very many. Seemed the weather had changed some minds after all. He was thankful for that. He picked a spot on the sand with a good, open view of the ocean, away from a gathering of people and looked at Delia with eyebrows raised. "This good?"

Delia was relieved to get out of the supermarket and finally make their way to the beach. The familiar scent of salty ocean wafted over her the closer they got, and she couldn't help but smile as she inhaled the sweet air deeply. When they reached the warm sand, she kicked off her shoes and spun around in the sand that warmed her toes. "Good? This is perfect," she replied, closing her eyes for a moment and taking in what bit of sunshine managed to find its way to the shore. The water was blue like stained glass, reflecting white and silver from the clouds above. It was the strangest, loveliest combination of colors.

"Alright then." Jac said and let the bags drop. "Hmm... should have thought to bring a blanket or something." He mumbled to himself. He shrugged and and plopped down in the sand, pulling off his shoes and socks. He looked out across the ocean, the waves were small, but the noise they produced was relaxing. He glanced up at Delia, seeing her happy made him smile. Her hair was tied back in that braid, but the few stray curls that wrestled their way out fluttered in the gusty winds that blew in from the ocean. He found himself very attracted to the casual charm of her outfit and hair. She was not dressed up, yet the informality of the situation appealed to him stronger than a fancy dinner date in a fancy dress could ever do. Not that he had been on many a fancy date.

As he stared at Delia, he was oblivious to a ruckus behind him. People were shouting and laughing. It wasn't until a frisbee soared inched over his head that he started. He turned to see who almost took his head off when he was met with a mass of fluffy gray fur. It crashed into him and the two lat sprawled in the sand. Jac sat up with a scowl and glared at his assailant. It was a young Australian shepherd. It didn't even look like it was a year old yet. It's brown paws way too big for it's fluffy black and grey speckled body. It lay on it's back, staring at him with one brown eye and one blue eye, tongue lolling out of it's mouth as it panted happily.

Delia had been momentarily preoccupied with her own fantasizing, tilted her head back and watching the clouds. Her gaze and mind fell back to earth when she caught Jac's eye and not a moment too soon. The frisbee that had flown over his head just barely missed her side and collided with her hip and into the sand. She squealed and jumped back, but the squeal turned into a trail of giggles at the sight of the dog practically tackling Jac to the ground. Sand stuck to his hair and the creature looked so thrilled it was almost grinning.

"Oh, what a cutie!" she exclaimed in delight, kneeling down next to the dog and running her fingers through its fluffy fur. It reminded her of a dog her cousin once had and used to play with at their lake house when she was young. The mere memory made her extra warm. She glanced at Jac and laughed once more. "You okay?"

Jac turned over so that he was laying on his stomach. "Stupid dog." He mumbled, shaking his head to get the sand out of it. "I'm fine. He answered Delia. The dog rolled over on it's stomach as well and shook, imitating Jac. Jac raised an eyebrow and the dog wagged it's stump of a tail, tilting it's head. Jac sighed and sat up, the dog rising to it's feet and prancing at him to play. "Get outta here mutt." He said and waved his hand in it's face. It changed course and instead went to the girl who had began to pet it earlier. It liked De, she smelled nice. It yipped at her, the frisbee forgotten.

Jac looked over at the people who had thrown the frisbee. "This your dog?" he called to them. They shook their heads and shrugged. "It just came outta nowhere when the frisbee went flyin." One of them answered. "Can you toss it back?!" Jac stood and brushed himself off, then stooped to pick up the frisbee that had landed a few feet away from Delia. The moment it was in his hands, the dog ran at him and went to bite the frisbee. "Oy! No! Not yours!" The dog paused a moment, and Jac threw it back to the group of people. The dog bolted after it. Jac came to stand by De, shaking his head with a smirk. Dogs were stupid, but he liked them in general. When they weren't knocking him into the sand. He turned to strike up conversation with De, thinking that was the last of the dog, when it came running back. It barked at them and panted excitedly. "Shoo!" Jac grumbled. That dog was going to get sand in the strawberries! He went to push it away from the groceries and it jumped back, ready to play. He noticed it had no collar.

Delia couldn't contain herself; she was giggling almost the whole time that Jac struggled with the poor thing. The people on the beach seemed not to care; they simply wanted their Frisbee back, and rightly so. When Jac went to stand next to her again, she simply beamed at him and reached up to brush a bit of sand he'd missed off from his ear. "I think we've made a new friend," she observed, watching the dog as it bounded towards them, little paws hitting the sand with soft thuds. She could also see how annoyed Jac was becoming with the dog; which was understandable, the need for peace and quiet especially on a day like today.

But she knelt down in front of the creature and scratched it behind the ears all the same. It seemed to like her, which was new to her, as she'd never been much good with animals. But then, she'd never had the chance to try. "Don't be such a grump, Jac," Delia said to him with another carefree laugh. "She just wants to play is all." It was a "she", wasn't it? she thought, peering under the puppy's belly to check. Nodding in confirmation, she looked back up at Jac, who didn't seem too pleased. "I think she's a stray." There was a ridiculously eager twinkle in Delia's eyes, similar to the childish gleam before they'd approached the beach.

I do know what they look like; one of my best friends has one and he's crazy but adorable. That picture is so cute though!! 4laugh

Jac sighed when it seemed the dog was not going to leave them alone, and when Delia told him to stop being a grump, he squared hos shoulders indignantly, his brow furrowing further for a moment before realizing that made him more of a grump. He sighed again, this time expelling the sour attitude and lightening p. If De was enjoying herself, then he supposed the dog was no harm.

As if in agreement, a ray of sunshine broke through the haze and sat warmly on Jac's bare arms as he had rolled up both jacket sleeves. "A stray huh. Should probably call a shelter then." He said. The look in De's eyes worried him though."What? We can't keep it. You live at a school and I live at a motel." He reminded her, in case she was thinking of taking it home.

Delia also felt the sunshine and sighed happily as the golden rays lit up her pale skin. The puppy seemed to notice too, because she looked at the both of them and yipped excitedly, a gleam in its multicolored eyes. At Jac's words of reminder, Delia sighed again, but this time out of stubborn disappointment. "I know, but..." she trailed off, looking at the adorable creature with its tongue hanging out and its head flopped to the side, tiny tail wagging. It was adorable, and quite the energetic companion, but pets weren't allowed where they were, or at least she didn't think they were. Delia found herself biting her lip in thought. "But she doesn't have anywhere to go, and a shelter would be..." she trailed off again. A shelter would be better than nothing, she knew that, but the stubborn child in her thought otherwise.

I want one now too >.> The only pets I've ever had were a cat when I was two and a fish a couple years ago XD

Jac knelt, balancing on his toes and leaning his elbows on his thighs. Looking at the dog now, apparently a female, she was pretty cute. She was still a bit of a puppy, though almost fully grown. People who looks for dogs at shelters tend to want puppies. He frowned. She probably wasn't fixed either, and that was an expensive surgery. Putting her down would be cheaper... But would a shelter really do that? He had heard that they did, but it could be a rumor. He didn't want to send the thing off to it's death. In any case, he couldn't let it be his problem. He stood and put his hands in his jacket pockets. "Well, someone'll find her and take her home with them, I'm sure." He said, only half believing it himself. He took hold of the bags and began walking to a different spot, hoping to get the dog to fixate on someone else. He wanted to relax on the beach with Delia and his snacks, not babysit a stray dog.

The dog whined happily as her head was being scratched, and in response, she licked Delia's hand. People were so nice! She rolled over in the sand, exposing her fluffy belly, paws dangling around her maw.

Aww. All my life I have never been without a pet of some sort. Always a cat or two at least. A couple of dogs and so very many rabbits! At the moment, I have to cats and a dog.

"I guess so," Delia replied quietly, not really looking back at Jac for a moment. The little thing was just so precious, she couldn't take her eyes off her! When she rolled onto her back, Delia could only giggle and ruffle the fur on the puppy's tummy. She was soft all over, and such a joy to be around. Delia glanced back at Jac and sighed, getting to her feet and brushing the sand off of her knees. "It's not a bad thing if she hangs around us, though, is it? Maybe she's hungry..." she said aloud, not really expecting Jac to care or pay attention. She turned and had to jog to catch up with him as he was moving to another spot in the sand. She didn't think the lovely creature would follow her, but it was seeming to take a liking to them after all.

io3121
I don't mind not growing up with pets as much as I used to. All my friends and extended family have some kind of pet though, so I usually just got used to them. Oddly enough I'm still slightly wary around dogs because of my weird childhood happenstances with them XD

Jac glanced behind him, hearing Delia's footsteps behind him. He smiled at her, to show her that he was not in a bad mood. He just wanted to have a peaceful day. He had been thinking about things a lot, and had never had a peaceful day devoid of stress and worry. Today was supposed to be that day, but he had already worried about the weather and a dog. He did a double take when he saw that the dog trotting alongside her. He rolled his eyes and sighed, defeated. "Fine, she can hang out, but when we leave the beach, we leave the dog. " He said, then plopped down in the sand and crossed his legs. He dug into the bad and pulled out the pound cake and strawberries, eager for food. All he had had that morning was coffee.

The dog trotted contently at Delia's side.

Delia nodded in agreement, though part of her still wanted to bring the dog along. But she knew he was right; the poor thing had no place to stay. She hoped she'd be able to see the creature again though some day. She sat down in the warm sand next to him on her knees, helping take out some of the other goodies. A strawberry made its way to her lips and she ate contently. "I think it's fate the sunshine is coming out like this," she observed, looking up at the parting clouds. She could see how tired and stressed Jac had been looking earlier, and she wished so greatly to take the weight off his shoulders and put him at ease.
