Diness blinked when Assis grabbed her hand, it was so suddenly... she almost jumped and pulled back. It was a natural reaction due to the guards in Castle Town. They were rowdy, and always drunk, but with Assis, she didn't pull away from his grip. She almost felt like he was trying to tell her something, something that couldn't be said a few moments ago. Slowly, she moved close to him, wanting hear what he wanted to say. When he told her to stop, she looked at his face and noticed that tears were moving down it, slipping and heading for the grass.

Diness saw him stand up, feeling everything that suddenly had happened, her talking of her past, him taking her hand, the rush of emotions just running wild around them suddenly vanished. She looked away, trying to cry, feeling like Assis did not want her, she stood up. She wanted to tell him more than anything, that she wanted to be there for him. Standing up herself she nodded, she was here to get Assis to where he wanted, and that's what she'll do, but... what about after. When, he finds this grave... will they part ways?

"Alright Assis... You don't have to apologize, I understand."

Diness looked into his eyes once more. No more pain, just pure determination. She moved and took his hand again, ready to be taken back into the air, a gust of wind threw her hair back as it settled behind her.

Kuri had returned from her flight over the lake of lava. A small red stone was now glowing in her right hand as she clutched it. Heat was radiating off of it as she moved to the door right next to it. Seeing the room was smaller, but seeing the water under neath her was deeper, telling her that she would have to swim. Folding her wings tightly to make sure they didn't get wet and placed the stone in her pocket before she moved forward and dove into the water.

Kurogane cursed as he felt the knife pierce his back. He knew that the attack would have been useless if only he would have been wearing his armor. Damn it all... If I hadn't been so hasty with Cielene... and taken off my armor... It matters not.. I have endured worse. Kurogane stabbed the man in the gut with his elbow, buying himself some time. He reached around and dislodged the weapon from his back. "Don't tell me that you were thinking that was the end?! It will take a lot more to defeat me!" He then charged at Zant, ready to slice him in half.

Jesse saw a glinting emerald stone in the distance on an altar. "Could that be it?" He wondered aloud. He knew he was getting othing standing there so he cautiously took a step forward into the open field. Wind went ripping against his face as he tried to make his way toward the jewel. For some reason though, he felt himself getting pulled away from the stone. When he looked to the side, to his horror, he saw a giant tornado racing across the plain. He had never seen such a thing, but he wasn't going to stan there and fid out what it was. Jesse sprinted off toward the stone.

Gently but firmly, Assis lifted Diness up onto his back once more, securing her arms overhis shoulders before gripping her ankles in front of his waist. He hopped up off the ground as he threw the red scimitar beneath his feet. The moment his feet hit the face of the blade, the energy burst out from behind them, propelling them into the air. The trail behind them had left a thin streak burnt into the ground from where they had taken flight. Where the energy had hit the ground, there was nothing left. Not even a trace of ash remained. The grass, the dirt, everything was gone, as if it had simply vanished, turned to dust to be swept away by the breeze rolling over the field.

Within twenty minutes, they were soaring over the opening in the walls of rock that was known as Kakariko Village. They were at least a mile up in the air, so they would only seem like a shooting star, if one that seemed to move very slowly, as far as shooting start went. Once they had passed over the town, Assis began to circle around the western side of the village. He was gradually lowering them as he made his way out away from the village. He would land on one of the walls overlooking the village, preferably on the west side of the village.

Looking down, there were no lights shining in the village. That could mean one of three things; the village was empty, the people had closed up shop for the night, or they simply haven't put their night lights on the porch yet. Stranger yet, there were no lights coming from the windows, either. Was this whole town really ghosted and empty? Well, there was only one way to find out.

Assis tilted his left foot forward, pointing down at a sharper angle than before. They were directly above the village now, flying toward the mountain and into the warm air coming down from it. After a quick u-turn, they followed the village south toward the entrance to the field. In less than a minute, they had plummeted to the ground. Assis had waited until the last second to land. Less than three feet above the ground, he tilted the sword backwards, nearly sticking it into the ground. If it wasn't for the energy burrowing a crater into the ground, they would have easily hit bottom with a harsh impact.

Finally, Assis reached down and took the sword in his hand, landing gracefully outside of the crater with Diness on his back. He knelt down, allowing her to step onto solid ground. After he straightened himself up, he turned to face the village. He knew that Diness already knew what they were there for. He didn't have to tell her to lead him to the graves. After all, that was their whole purpose in being there.

The only thing he wasn't going to tell her is how he felt about her. He had fallen head-over-heals for her, and he knew it. That was why he had turned his back to her in ther field. He wasn't rejecting her at all. In fact, he shared her feelings. The only problem was, he couldn't get past the wall in front of him. This wall had stopped him before, and it was becoming a nuissance. The wall itself was none other than his very name, and the meaning it carried. Everything he had learned up to this point had told him to turn his back on emotions, on opening himself up to others.

More than that, he would not let himself be distracted. He had something to do, and he would not rest until it was done. The only reason he had stopped to rest in the field was because he could feel Diness shivering behind him. It was for her that he broke flight. he could have taken them straight into the cemetery, but he stopped. He wanted her to be warm and comfortable. She was the reason he was even here, and he had her to thank for everything, for even making it this far in the first night he had come into Hylian territory.

Assis was in such great a debt to Diness, he feared he may never be able to repay her. If he couldn't find a way, then he would never be able to keep himself from returning. He would repay his debt to Diness in one way or another. Even though he had possibly saved her life, she had done something so much greater for him; she had helped him to reach his goal. For this, he would not rest until she had reached a purpose of her own. That was his way.

For the time at hand, he had to get to the graves. He had to search for his father's name. If he didn't find it, the least he could do was tell Diness who he really was, tell her the name he was searching for. Perhaps then, if his father wasn't here, but somewhere else instead, perhaps Diness could tell him where to find the place of death. Or at least, the place where his body last lay. Who knows, he might even take her with him, take her away from the pain and suffering in her life. He just might be able to look past his pride and accept her hand in somewhat temporary partnership, were she willing to escape her life of dancing for ingrateful, filthy, Hylian common-folk. And how he despised them all.

Diness felt him take her hand and took a breath before she was pulled onto his back once more and they were back in the air. For Din, this was not her favorite way of travelling, she knew that she wasn't going to be traveling like this for a while. She looked back down at Assis and watched as they flew over the mountains down towards Kakariko. She felt her arms and legs relaxed so he wouldn't think that the trip was bothering her, she would get used to it, more than anything she would have to get use to it. All this magic, these strange abilities of Assis. She wanted to get use to them, she wanted to be with him, and learn more about it.

She watched as Kakariko swooped under them, she had quiet forgotten the village was light inhabited, except for two humans and a few Gorons a few years ago. Yes, years ago there was a small group of refugee children from the province of Orodon children that lived here when some monsters kidnapped them. Now, that they had returned home, the place looked very empty. Had no one even bothered in trying to restored it after the Era of Twilight. She felt Assis suddenly drift down, feeling him doing a nose dive towards the ground.

She almost screamed, quickly shutting her eyes for impact, but no such thing came. She felt Assis pull up just in time and jumped landing on the ground. She opened her eyes to see a massive crater behind them and shakily got off his back, looking around. The village was quiet dark, but she knew where to go to find the grave yard. She stood up straight, taking another deep breath, trying to regain herself, before she looked back towards Assis. He was still avoiding her eye, if anything he was avoiding something that involved Diness. How could she be so stupid back in the fields. How could she expect anybody to love someone like her. People want a perfect person for them, and Diness was not one of those things.

She was stubborn, and she spoke to much, she liked going out on adventures, and she was dangerous. Whenever she got scared, or anger, the fires... they would take control, they would consume all that loved her. She turned her head away and moved forward suddenly taking Assis' hand again and led him towards the grave. She won't be stupid anymore. She won't let herself be hurt... but she cared so deeply for Assis, and it wasn't because he saved her... or she owed anything to him. It was because he took the time to look at her. Where most would turn away their faces, look away because of her skin, because of her attitude, because who she was. He didn't... that's why she loved him. That's why she wanted to stay at his side, to do whatever she could for him.

Kuri came back out of the water, her fairy wings half soaked as she flapped them, moving over to the door as she placed the second one in. She looked over at the grass symbol where Jessi was, and the Lightning symbol where Link was. She began to think, what were they going to find when going past this door. Another test of wisdom?

The moment Diness grabbed his hand, Assis began to savor every moment. he followed her eagerly, not realising his own sudden rise in energy. His entire body was heating up, and his hand was just slightly begining to sweat in hers. He stared nervously at the ground as they walked, watching their feet step in synchronization with one-another. He wouldn't have admitted it, but he was matching her footsteps on purpose.

Something else was going on that Assis would not have admited. It was something in his mind, something he was actually praying for. He was picturing himself standing in front of Diness in the cemetery, holding both of her hands in his under the Moon. And She was briliant tonight. The cloud of dust he had created was vanishing into the air, and the sky was almost completely clear overhead. The Moon's light poured out over the wall of rock to their left. The lifeless buildings were bathing in Her light, eerie and stale in their still silence.

The next thing that Assis was picturing was cut off when they came to a turn. The main road split east through a narrow path in the wall. It had obviously been man-made, this path. This was the way to the graves. Sister Moon looked down on them, icy and vain in Her beauty. She was not afraid to shine Her light, to show Her face, and to walk Her own path at Her own pace. She had always come and gone much slower than the Sun, because She was in no hurry to shy away from the eyes of Her people, the Hylians and the Gerudos and all the other peoples of this world. She enjoyed the company of those who enjoyed Hers. She was truely a celestial rogue.

As Assis and Diness finally came to the yard, he looked out over the area lit by Sister's light. This place was a complete work in itself, something that was absolutely everything it was supposed to be. Assis glanced over to Diness out of the corner of his eye for just a moment. He looked at her painfully, not wanting to let go of her hand. He wanted to stand there with her as long as Sister's light shone upon their faces. But, perhaps they could walk together? It would take him a bit longer, but at least then he wouldn't have to let go of her.

Finally, Assis turned his head to look at her, just like in his vision. Then, he slowly turned his body to match. He tilted his head so that his bangs would not hide his features from Sister's light. Before she had had a chance to say anything, he quickly spoke to her in by-far the softest voice he had used since they met.

"Diness....."

His eyes were almost serious still, but he could not hold it in. He was serious about this, but he wasn't cold or analytic like he usually was. He was just.... calm.

"Would you.... walk with me?"

He wanted so much to keep her there beside him. He didn't want her to get scared here if she saw something move, or get cold here in this place where spirits wandered. Every time a spirit passes through a person's body, they suddenly feel very cold, as if a bolt of freezing electricity had just been shot through their spine and back. It was almost invigorating, this feeling. There was no escaping it, for if a cold, wandering spirit were to pass through the warmth of a living spirit, one would, for a moment, feel the cold shock of the wanderer, and the wanderer would feel the warmth of the living flame burning within that which it had passed through. Wandering spirits were known to seek out the warmth of the living. It doesn't mean that every cold-chill a person or living creature feels is the presence of a wandering spirit. But, there's always a good chance it could be just that.

Assis wasn't going to tell Diness that he wanted to protect her. He also wasn't going to tell her that he had simply desired her to be by his side. He thought it best for her to come to her own conclusion. Either one would be correct, but that was for Assis to know. Diness could believe what she wanted. It was not his place to tell her otherwise. She was an intelligent woman, stronger than her Hylian ancestors. But it was her Gerudo heart that would inevitably lead her to the truth.

Diness led him straight towards the grave yard, feeling Assis walk right next to her. They seemed to walk in rhythm, like if all of this walking was just a dream. She felt her hand grip Assis' almost firmly, she caught herself before she squeezed the life out of his hand. What was making her act this way, something was radiating off of Assis that just wanted to make her feel this way. She knew, and wouldn't admit it, she was in love with him. Though, she would never admit it to his face, she would keep it to herself.

She felt the moonlight shining on them. She glanced up looking at the moon, it was enormous, almost like it was sitting right next to the land. Everything in the cemetery was lit up by the moon light that flooded down on them. She felt Assis suddenly stopped, she almost tripped, but caught herself with her dancer like moments. She was used to sudden stops, to fast movements. To abilities you thought would be impossible for her to do. She noticed him turning and looking over at him. She was about to ask him what was wrong, but he had already spoken.

Diness, it slipped out of his mouth like a song, it was... soft, and calm. Almost the soothest voice she had ever hear come from his mouth. It made Diness almost melt when she heard it. She felt his thumb trace over her knuckles, making his touch send shivers down her spine, but they were shivers that gave those goosebumps she would give people at performances.

She looked at him, blinking almost confused when he asked her to walk with him. Weren't they already walking together, but she took only a second to realize what he meant. He wanted her to by his side. Did, Assis have the same feelings as Diness? Did he care about her as much, as she did he.

"Alright... I won't leave you side."

She wasn't really scared of spirits, or the darkness that surrounded them. She was used to sitting in the dark by herself, being spooked by ghost, but now she wasn't alone, she had someone beside her, Assis.

Assis smiled in relief as he listened to her words. In a way, he had already known what she would say. Still, it was the act of speaking and listening, to hear the words themselves, that was what he had wanted, more than anything in the world. Almost more than he had wanted to see his father....

Assis took Diness's hand in his own, relaxing his grip as they began their walk amongst the graves. Near a distant wall, a lantern hung in the air over one of the stones. It hovered with no hook nor tree branch to hold it up. The spirits were strong on this night, feeding from Sister's intense light. Assis glanced at the lantern, but made no notion of acknowledgement toward the spirit. It was best to leave such things to wander about alone. He was no priest, and held no knowledge of exorcism, or things of that nature.

Suddenly, he remembered that he was supposed to be looking for a name. There were no stones set aside, no shrines and no tombs. Nothing here would signify the death of someone of such fearsome significance. None of the graves even seemed to have any legible markings, only a few letters here and there. They were all weathered and moss-covered, very few of which had any names that were even complete. This graveyard was ancient, and its soil had gone sour long ago.

By the time they reached the end of the cemetery, Assis sighed deeply with the realisation that his goal had become something much different now. The only thing he had accomplished was the confirmation that Hylians had no honor about themselves. They were a wretched and filthy people, the lot of them. Still, the Hero of Time, he had risked his life for them. He had done something Assis would not. Link, a word which meant "connection" in the common tongue. A force which holds something together. Link, the Hero of Time, had been the force which had brought together the elements and slain the forces of evil, only to reunite the land under the same old kingdom. Still, he had lived up to his name.

Assis, on the other hand, was holding hands with a stranger on a moon-lit stroll through the second-most-ancient graveyard on this side of Hyrule. He was begining to stray from the true nature of what his name truely meant. As much as he did not want to be the One Mercenary In The Sand, it was his name. Did the Hero of Time ever have doubts? Did he ever wish for a life more simple than the one he was given? Surely, one man could not deny himself of the human nature of fear. Only the gods possessed the courage to face destiny without a twitch. Only the courage of the gods.... would be placed in the hands of the one who stood worthy of their trust.

Finally, Assis stopped as the path through the graves ended. He stood there looking down at the ground in front of him as he took in a deep breath before once again letting it out in a sigh of shame. He had dragged this woman all the way out here, knowing in his heart that the Hylians would never had bothered to hold a proper burial for such a man as his father. He continued to stare at the ground, ashamed at his own naivety. This girl had been so nice as to trust him and follow him out here, and it was to no end. His search would only continue after they left this place. Just the same, the search of the spirit across the way would continue to find its resting place in a world where it can never rest. He was a ghost, searching for a purpose in the land of the dead.

Assis gently released Diness' hand, letting his own hang limply to his side as he stared into the sour dirt under his feet. Again, he spoke in the soft voice he had used earlier. Again, he would ask something of her. the more questions he piled on her, the more he began to wonder when she would ask something of him. But before she could, he would reveal his true identity to her, finally removing the veil that had separated them for what had seemed like a lifetime.

"I must apologize. It appears he is not here."

Finally, he turned to face her again. He was so ready to tell her everything, to spill out his guts on the floor and show her just how disgusting he truely was. but, for a moment, he could not bring himself to speak it. He just stared into her eyes, pouring out every ounce of emotion he could muster without coming to tears. It was all for her, his sorrow. He had held it in for so long, and finally he had found someone who was trying so hard to give him the key to unlock those gates. But, he just did not know how to reach out and grab it. He had lived such a sheltered life, he could not think of a way to word the answer that was good enough for her. He was trying to ask a question that had not yet been asked.

Diness looked around the graveyard when they walked through it. This was also the graveyard where the guard said they had buried her father. They had said it was at the back. She walked slowly to the end and turned to the right when Assis was looking around for his father and bent down in front of a grave. Her heart pounding as she reached forward and pushed back the moss.

There it was, her fathers name, she almost stood up quickly and stumbled backward, looking back over at Assis. Her ears perked up when he said that the grave that he was looking for was not here. They drooped quickly at the feeling she felt, failure. Wasn't she suppose to help Assis, wasn't this her idea that it could be here? She felt guilty, and not only sad that she failed Assis.

A determined face shifted from her sad, guilty one. She made a promise so she was going to keep it. She turned to Assis, her determined face still standing firmly in her eyes. She took both his hands and held them close, looking straight into his eyes. She looked serious, so he knew what she meant was true.

"Assis, we'll find it, I promise!"

She looked into his eyes and noticed something in his eye. She tilted her head to the side when she looked at him. She knew this look, it was the look her father gave her when he reveled that her mother was Greudo. It was a shocking experience, but she didn't hate her father for hiding it from her. She just accepted it and moved on.

"Assis, is there something you wish to tell me?"

Assis met Diness’ eyes, unable to mask the pain he felt. His father was such a treacherous man, yet, was it too much to ask just to come face-to-face with the man who gave him life? To meet his father just one time was all he could ever ask for. Still, would she reject him after he dragged her out here just to find out that his father hadn’t even been buried?

Assis stared solemnly into her eyes as he let a deep, disenchanted sigh pour from his nose. His lips parted just enough to let some air in, but he was hesitant to speak. He knew that he had to tell her sooner or later. It would only be fair to her at this point. He had kept her guessing long enough. It was finally time to come clean and reveal the truth about himself, about his infamous father.

This was it. Assis was finally ready to let go, to let out all the emotion he had been keeping inside for so long. Without any warning, Assis closed the gap between them, pressing his body against hers as he wrapped his arms over her back. He buried his face into her shoulder as a waterfall of tears poured from his eyes. He hadn’t expected it to go this far. He didn’t want it to go this far in the beginning. But, he didn’t care anymore. He was done with rules, with reputations. At this moment, Assis was ready to renounce his name, and take up life in a small village. Something simple would do, anything but the life he has had to endure would suffice.

After sobbing a few times, Assis lifted his head off of her shoulder, but he did not pull back. He had to do it. If he hadn’t, he might not have been able to speak. Still, even if she did reject him after he told her, he would keep moving, keep looking until he found someone who knew where the body had been left to rot, or burned. Even if he never saw his father in this life, he would visit the grave. He would offer a prayer to bring rest to his father’s spirit. Surely Ganondorf would have revenge in his heart, if rumors were true.

”I am sorry, Diness. I have waited long enough to tell you.” Finally, Assis lifted his head up, wiping the tears off his face as he looked down at her. ”It was mindless for me to come here. For.... the name of the man I was searching for...”

His expression suddenly narrowed. He was back to being serious again. He had to say it now, or else he would never get it out. ”.... is Ganondorf.”

Diness was shocked and surprised when he suddenly wrapped his arms around her. Her heart suddenly leap across her chest, worrying that Assis would feel it's quickened pace. She felt his head on her shoulder, tears that had been wanting to get out for a long time were now leaking onto it, and down her bare arm. She moved her arm almost automatically when this happened. She didn't want Assis to be sad, anything she wanted him to go back to smiling. She wanted to be there for him, to comfort him when he needed it. That was probably the reason to why she was holding him so close to her. It was because she wanted him happy, more than anything.

Ganondorf, there, everything came down like a crashing wave. She almost backed away when she looked at him, but she held her ground. Ganondorf, he was the reason why her father was dead. He was the reason why she is stuck in that stupid castle town with his rampaging minions. She and all the other Hylians blamed it on Ganondorf. She turned to run away but stopped.

Assis, wasn't like that, he was different. He wasn't anything like Ganondorf. Sure, he despised Hylians... but he didn't go around killing them did he? And... he saved her. Diness turned her head and looked at him. Running away would do nothing, and she did make a promise. She turned and moved towards him. There was hesitant pause in her step. She quickly forced herself to move forward and practically run right into Assis arms hugging him closely.

"If you think I'm going to abandon you now because of that... you're wrong..."

She hated Ganondorf, and she still did, but... That, gave her no reason to hate Assis too. If he really was Ganondorf son, maybe he didn't have to act like him. She saw him as Assis, the man who saved her, protected her, and now... the man she truly loved.

Assis hung his head to the ground the moment she turned away from him. He had expected this. All this time, he had seen her running away from him once he told her, running back to the field, even with the dangers that lie in the wild. After all, anything would be better than the son of a monster, right? He spoke now with grief, closing his eyes as he listened to her footsteps.

"Fine.... in that case-."

Just like that, he was cut off. Diness had decided not to run. Instead, she came back to him and returned his embrace. He was so caught up in his idea that she would run away, her actions had caught him litterally off-guard. He nearly jumped back as she wrapped her arms around him. He couldn't believe that she would turn around so quickly. Then again, perhaps she would just use him to get back to town?

Could this be a trick? Was she just leading him on until she got back into the safety of the town? Well, there was only one way to find out. With a heavy heart, he met her eyes solemnly as he ceased his crying altogether. He did not trust her, despite what she had said. She was a performer, right? Even though she sounded truthful in her voice, she had nearly bolted when she heard the name Ganondorf. She obviously had talents entertaining people. She could very well be masking her fear in order to keep his trust in her.

The only thing she had done was cause him to become suspicious of her. Was she really trustworthy at this point? As fast as she had spun back around to embrace him, she could not have put too much thought into her decision. She heard the name "Ganondorf," and she turned to run just before realising that she still needed him to get back into town.

Well, even if this was true, he didn't mind. As he stared down into her eyes, she looked so welcoming, so warm and accepting of his secret. Not that he had hid it, but the fact that Ganondorf had even made a son to carry on the Gerudo bloodline was not exactly common knowledge in these parts of the world. Did she even believe him at all? Had she taken him seriously? There was only one way to find out. He had to take her back. Even if his suspicions were true, he still owed her a ride back, even if he never saw her again after that.

"So..... you are not afraid? I will return you to your home, if that is what you wish. It is better that way."

Assis stared sadly past Diness to the ground behind her. He felt unworthy to look at her, as if he had done something wrong. He was so lost in his self-made guilt, he didn't even realize the movement of the floating lantern they had passed when they first entered the graveyard. It was back in the distance still, but it was jerking around angrily in the air, making its way gradually across the path until it came to a stop on the opposite side of the path. There it sat, motionless, as if it had been there the whole time.

Diness looked back up at her, he didn't believe her. She shook her head and pulled away, but she took his hands into hers. How was she going to make him believe her? She wanted to be with him, why would she return to him? Why would she turn around when she heard that his own father was Ganondorf.

"You are the son of Ganondorf, but you are not Ganondorf himself... for this, I'm not going to run out on you, and I made a promise. I promise we would find him, whether he was buried or not, and I dare you to try and take me home. I hate it there! This is what I've always dreamed of, please Assis, you can't send me back..."

She sounded desperate when she said that, looking up into his eyes. She quickly looked away, a big knot in her stomach. She decided this was going to be her only chance. Besides, that must have been a big secret to suddenly tell her. So she might as well be truthful.

"... I have to be truthful... since you've been truthful to me... Assis I lo-"

She turned cover her mouth, turning away, was she being an idiot? How could she almost say that?! What if he looked at her with disgust, and left her after she made those demands to let her stay with him. Then again, there was another chance he wouldn't. She removed the hands her mouth. She had to get this off her chest. Breathing slowly, she turned back to him.

"... This is weird... but even with even a short while in knowing you. I... I- I lo-love... you"

She turned away again, ready to be rejected it. Tears were moving down her checks and dripped off her cheeks. She always said that crying first before the hurt was the best way to take it better. If she cried now, she didn't have to be hurt later.

How could this be true? Did she really fall for him? Well, he had gotten used to women Gerudo suddenly proposing their love to him, but that was usually after he had already slept with them. It was Gerudo instinct for the woman to become infatuated with the man. With the curse set upon their people, that was the only way they could possibly keep their numbers from diminishing. As for Assis, he probably had twenty or thirty children of his own scattered throughout the various tribes he had visited in his time.

It was always the same story; he would walk up to a woman in the desert, she would take one look at him and immediately fall head-over-heals with infatuation, they would have sex somewhere secluded - probably in her home - and he would leave. The end. It was the same way with his father. Only, Assis had been born before his time. Why he was even alive was a mystery. Why would he suddenly appear out of the womb, a male born to the accursed people in the sand, before the hundred-year mark? What the hell was so special about him?

In any case, this woman's story was nearly the same as the rest of theirs. They had all wanted to drop their lives and run off with him to have adventures and be lovers forever. But, there was one small detail that set Diness apart from the rest of them. After everything he had seen from her, her tears, and that genuine tone in her voice, he knew why she was different from the rest of them. Diness had not only meant every word of what she had said, but she was nearly threatening him not to take her back to Hyrule Castle Town. At this rate, she would probably never go back, anyway. Who knew what would happen to her? Would she be able to fend for herself? Yes, she had proven herself nimble and of excellent health, but it takes more than just physical strength to survive in the sand.

Assis didn't live in a village, he didn't steal to be able to feed himself, and.... well, he killed people. His name was enough to vouch for that, since it was given to him after he was already an adult. The title - El Assis, Gerudo - was not a name which was handed out like candy to little children. The One Mercenary, In The Sand. His purpose was to kill. That was all he knew how to do. And he was paid handsomly for his work. He had personally stashed thousands of rupee, gold, silver, and various other treasures in more places than he could count. The only reason he was able to find them was because of his system of mapping out the land itself. Any fool who knew his system could easily track down every last scrap of earnings he had hidden away, starting back from when he was sixteen. He was a pirate, a killer, and a treasure hoarder. But, unlike most pirates Gerudo, he was not a thief, not by any means. He would rather lose every worldly possession he had every come to hold than to deprive another of their hard earnings.

Assis stared into Diness' back as she cried, seeing the shimmer of tears running down the side of her cheeks. She was absolutely serious, just like the rest of them. The more he thought about it, he really did feel the same about her. He wanted to wrap her up in his arms and take her on the spot, but he would not allow himself to do so. This time was not appropriate for such a thing. Besides, she was actually offering to help him find his father. She had nothing to go back to, as Castle town was probably no longer under commission. Her occupation was no longer usefull to those treacherous Hylian dogs. The word "Hylian" had come to have its own meaning in Gerude tongue; "dog with forked tongue."

It would give him nothing but pleasure to steal her away from them, deprive the dogs with forked tongues the priviledge of laying their eyes upon her. Only a man Gerudo was worthy to gaze upon the beauty of a woman Gerudo, whether skyclad, or fully-clothed while holding a blade against their pale throats. The more he thought and thought, the more he had wanted to take her with him. Finally, this woman, Diness, was all he had needed to convince him to break his own rules. Break the rules attached to his name. Break and shatter everything he had come to know.

He took one step toward Diness, stopping as a sudden flash of light caught his eye from the corner. He turned to look at it, and he saw the lantern hovering barely fifty paces from them. It had moved back over to the one side again, which was the left side of the path from where he stood. His eyes shot wide open as he gripped the handle of his red scimitar. His eyes narrowed, and suddenly he realised how much darker everything had become around them. For just a brief moment, he glanced up at the sky. the clouds had gathered and thickened above, and there were no stars or beams of Sister's light to brighten the graveyard around them. The gloom had been coming from the ominous lantern, and was unnaturally bright, even for a spirit lamp.

Whatever it was, it was powerful. A loa, perhaps? No, not likely. Spirits of possession have no power without a living host, which an inanimate lantern could not be. This was something far more sinister. Assis looked down to the ground. Even if it was not a loa, he would not take any chances. If the lantern was an illusion, then staring into its light was almost certainly the point of access from which it infiltrated the soul of its target host. Assis quickly side-stepped toward Diness, placing his hand gently upon her shoulder.

"Diness.... look down. There is a haunting spirit upon us. Do not look into its light. Keep your eyes low and we will get past it."

Diness was just about to take the step forward to leave, but she stayed where she was when she looked at the ground. Assis didn't want to be with her, she would just drag him down. She sighed softly to herself, she was prepared to return to her home. Even return to that home in the Hylian people in which she had come to known. She was prepared for his rejection and for letting go. She was ready for it all. She blinked when she noticed it had suddenly become extremely dark. She looked up seeing that the moon had disappeared a cloud and was no longer washing the grave yard. She looked over slowly when she felt Assis put a hand on her shoulder and told her to keep her head low. Afraid of what might be lurking near them, she nodded silently and looked down on the ground, seeing the eerie light emanating from the lantern was was floating next to them. Which prone her to look up. Her eyes widened when she saw something.

She saw a strange Poe like figure that looked like a stitched up doll looked over at the two, cackling. He was holding the lantern with it's feet and in his two little hands was a scythe. She looked over at Assis, and noticed he was glancing at the Lantern. Could he not see the creature? Her eyes widened when she saw him lift up the scythe. "Assis look out!" She said, grabbing his hand and pulling him out of the way of the swipe seeing it miss him by inches. She watched as the Poe imp looked around turning around to see them. She turned to run off but the Poe Imp was fast and floated in their path and stopped Diness as she backed away. She saw the Scythe swing upwards and come down on her head as she screamed and looked away.

She opened her eyes when she felt no impact. Maybe it was different because he was a spirit. She looked over and noticed a human formed spirit standing in front of Diness and Assis. Her eyes widened when she recognized the figure. "F-father?" She said, stepped forward, but he shook his head, holding back the scythe. "Get out!" He shouted at her. Her heart rushing as she took Assis' hand and ran for the exit. Looking back to see the Poe Imp and her father engulfed by darkness. She reached the village, catching her breath.

In truth, Assis did not see the form of the ghost, but he could hear the wind rushing as it swung at him. He gripped the red scimitar in his hand as he prepared to block the attack, but was pulled away by Diness at the last second. He turned to scold her for disrupting him, but he was cut off when the lantern zipped around in front of them. It was ridiculously fast, whatever manner of luar(haunt) this was.

Once again, he gripped the handle of the red scimitar as he prepared to lash out at the lantern. Obviously, this object was acting as the luar's anchor to the world of the living. A third time, Assis was cut-off when he felt the warmth of another presence nearby. He stopped for just a moment as the hair on the back of his neck pricked up in reaction to the second presence. The cold, negative vibes radiating from the luar were something he could handle.

However, when a luar was roaming the world, waiting or what have you, because of the intense love it carried in its heart, this was enough to make him burst into tears by the sheer sensation of it. The hot, electrical pulse that signified pure love - whether it be for a spouse, a child, a parent, a sibling, or even a friend - it was powerful enough to drive back the darkest of luar, no matter how powerful or ancient.

The love of a father for his daughter. Obviously, the luar was Diness' Hylian father, awakening to raise his hand against any who woulld move to strike her down. The most unlikely of places for Assis to have seen this was in the heart of a Hylian. But, perhaps not every last Hylian in the history of the world was such a revolting porre afterall. Her father was no dog, he had mustered the strength to rise again and defend his bloodline. What honor, for this was surely more than Assis would have been able to do, even through ten generations of kings, Gerudo.

Finally, Assis simply gave in as he was dragged along the path back into the empty street in the middle of town. Once they reached the street, they stopped. The ground beneath their feet was bumpy and jagged, but Assis was used to it. Diness, on the other hand, was probably used to the solid, flat streets inside the walls of Castle Town. Just as well, they were safe, and neither one of them had taken a single scratch for souvenir.

Assis let go of Diness' hand as he turned toward the mountain. the red glare fromthe mouth of the volcano was illuminating the clouds billowing out into the sky. The clouds trailed down, swerving eastward before coming to a halt over the town. This was how the luar had gathered such thick clouds, it had used the winds to carry the breath of the mountain and darken their path. "Look.... the mountain. I knew these were not clouds of rain."

Assis, the big mess that he was, was trying to stall Diness. He wanted to waste as much time as he could, savor every last second with her, before she told him to take her back. She probably thought ill or cowardly of him, although it was her who had pulled him away before he could protect her. In the end, Assis did not need to be there at all. In fact, by bringing her here, he had only put her in danger. Yes, she had seen her father, and apparently her eyes were more sensitive to spectral presences than his, but.... would she reject him? Now that he had missed his chance to defend her?

Assis stared relentlessly at the mountain, trying not to think of what a coward he had been made of back in the graveyard. If only there had been more luar about, more rushing of wind for him to deflect, to prove that he cared for her. But alas, here he stood, staring up into the sky like some day-dreamer trying to call the rain to melt all his troubles away.

At long last, the rain did come. It had started as a sprinkle, but it quickly grew into a drizzle, then a stead downpour. Perhaps it was her father who had brought the rain, for the gloom of the lantern was gone from the cemetery. All had gone silent save for the chorus of rain falling upon the dirt road under them. Even the snares joined in, as a rusted old sheet of metal protruded from the top of one of the houses.

An old roof of sorts, perhaps an early attempt at a more effective, sturdy roof. Well, it had outlasted the rest of the wooden structure beneath it, without a doubt. Assis grinned as he looked to the ground in front of him.

"Hmm.... li felsa." I was wrong....
