It was then that the boy noticed that both Emnast and Bez are staring at him in awe.

"You actually went into his throne room." laughs Em uneasily... "and yer sitting down?"

"Yer kidding... right?" begs Bez earnestly. "Do you realize what goes on in that room?"

Emnast sighs and shakes his head. "Innocence won't keep ye alive in the void, kiddo. Only knowledge will stand ye in good. Kero only uses that room to settle arguments... He sets up laws and such and enforces them... by the strength of his arm is need be. That's all the void listens to when it comes down to it. But even though he has managed to enforce some semblance of order to the chaos, its a shaky truce... no true lasting peace. The inhabitants of the void do not live in peaceful coexistence... But if he had to listen to all their complaints day in and day out, he'd go mad and get nothing at all done... so he sits in state to formally listen to their complaints. Truly terrible things get his attention right away... but the slow simmering ones which make it there make that room a powder keg... yer lucky to have gotten out of there alive... or worse... ye could have been used as a bargaining chip big time... rather than by one grief ridden parent..."

Em nods sadly. "Yes he did. Why? What made you go in there anyway?"

Bez blinks. "Heh... ye sound like someone I know... someone who runs around in black fur and pretends to be a big meanie..."

Emnast chuckles. "Lucy is no meanie... he's an old softie... I've always known that... even when he was trying to cut me head off... not that I didn't deserve it, mind ye."

Em sighs and looks down at the floor. "Let's just say I deserved it, okay. Seriously deserved it... and I've paid for it... so can we drop the subject. It makes me uneasy."

Bez chuckles. "I don't know about his other rejuvenations, but knowing Ai... nope... He never laid a hand on him except in fun... and then never hard. Why?"

Emnast shrugs. "It's something voidic mages do to keep themselves together and not fall away into dust... their magic consumes... even themselves... slowly... so ever so often they need to re-energize themselves. It's a complicated form of magic that allows them to well... start over... not exactly from scratch... but close... They revert to children and give up their magic for a time, allowing their bodies to heal and recharge... most don't make it... others can't do it... many do it maybe once then never achieve it again. Lucy's done it 13 times now."
