Elkand smiled as she began to play the piano. It might has taken a minute but then people started to join as he simply watched them all dance. He was happy to see people winding down and relaxing and even joining in on the music. Elkand was glad the piano was always kept there as it was the first time he had seen anyone use it. He listened to her play with a smile on his face as she showed great skill with it even playing such a tune that everyone knew. He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes just imagining the music she was playing in his head as she went along. He was glass that this year they decided to let them have a break before they continued as everyone needed it severely.

Larkanna continued to play as long as the other guests continued to dance and request songs that either she or the other musicians recognized. After a while, her hands began to feel slightly numb, so she politely excused ehrself and allowed the others to cover for her while she took a short break. Walking over to Elkand, she sat next to him, "It's been a long time since I've played for more than one person." She said tiredly as she leaned back in her seat. "Most witches believe that there should be a certain level of refinement when coming together for social events. Impropriety is how they'd describe this event." She said with a sad smile.

Elkand smiled " Your quite good at it." he said " Witches seem to be uptight...what you just did was a normal occurrence for wizards in large gatherings." he said. He looked at her "But hopefully that will change..." he said and put his arm on her shoulder " Cheer up dear...things will be fine I promise you." he said " How did you get so good at playing anyway?" he asked " Do witches teach?" he asked.

Larkanna shook her head, "It's rare to find a witch that finds true interest in music, let alone a teacher." She watched teh dancefloor for a moment before coninuing, "The only thing of value that my family owned was my mother's fiddle. She would play for us every time we managed to catch her with a little free time on her busy hands, but I was the only one that showed interest in actually learning to play and not just listen to her. She then started to teach me every song she knew, but I ran off to chase after my dreams."
Snapping her fingers, a fiddle appeared in her hand, "I took it along with me, because I wanted a piece of my past and true self to be near me in case I couldn't convince a witch to take me on as an apprentice. After I began to move from mentor to mentor once they'd taught me everything they knew, I remembered my fiddle and took it out again. I'd learned to read and so I self-taught myself during my little free time. Then, once I'd become a good player of the fiddle, I moved on to any other instrument that I could get my hands on."
Striking several notes of an eerie Gypsy tune, a cloud of fog appeared before them and shifted until it was like a window to one of her many hidden rooms. "I hid my passion for music once I became the apprentice to the Witch Mother, though she encouraged that I kept up my practice. Then I was at the top of my game and there was little more that I could learn from her, so I set out into the world to find ancient spells, many of which require the caster to play a certain tune on a certain instrument. I've collected and self-taught myself how to play all of those instruments that you seen in that room. Many are similar to one another, but have completely different magical properties."

Elkand listened to her like a child listening to a well told fairy tale. He was incredibly interested in his history and have her his full focus as she spoke. Witch culture was very different from wizards that much was obvious or at least when it came to beliefs and principles. Many wizards did teach much about music but none of them ever used it or took it up. Ekand strongly declined when Lillet tried to teach him about the piano and that strange pipe. He smiled after she was done " Interesting." he said not bothering to hide the amazement in his home " Your certainly more than meets the eye..wizards don't value much about music as to us it seems to have no magical value." he said " Do you think you could teach me." he asked acting like an academy student now but this time someone younger than him would be his teacher if she agreed. He was also bound to this particular person and destined to either die with them or spend the rest of his magical life with them. He had a smile on his face and stared into her red eyes hoping she said yes.

Larkanna was surprised that he'd taken interest in her story. She was even more so when he asked whether she could teach him. "I see no reason why not." She said with a tired smile. "What instrument would you like to start with?"

Elkand smiled wide and looked at her " It might be odd but do you think you could teach me he to play the flute..if you can't we could always do the piano." he said looking at her and his greatly darkened eyes seemed to light up to their normal look and actually went a little beyond. He was practically on the edge of his seat now unleashing much of the child like behavior he suppressed for so long.

Larkanna laughed a little, "The flute is the instrument of spirit and eccentricity, but it is a wonderful beginner instrument, so of course." The flute had been the second instrument that she'd ever taken up. Healing and summoning were its main tasks when it came to magical uses. "The piano is rarely used for magic spells or summonings, only entertainment or for dramatic effect. Another instrument that you might be interseted in would be the drums, which are the best for summoning creatures."

Elkand nodded and looked at her " It'll be good to learn the flute first then." he said. He stared at her " Drums can be used for summoning creatures?" he asked and smiles " Thats amazing." he said. He nodded " However I would just suggest the flute." he said " It has always interested me and it sounds beautiful to me." he said and suddenly realized how clsoe he was to her face. He backed up and coughed "Sorry I just get really excited." he said trying to calm himself down.

Larkanna had literally held her breath as he came closer and closer until he backed away. Finally allowing herself to breathe, she laughed quietly, "It's fine. Self-expression is a good trait to possess before going into music. It took me the longest time to actually sound good until I realized that the player was the one that provided the emotions behind the melody." Playing a short bout on the fiddle, the lights within the entire room faded and mystic tiny lights floated around, shining in thousands of colors. This kept the dancing going longer as she put the instrument on her lap.

Elkand nodded and looked around the room at the lights and smiled " Beautiful." he said. He then remembered something " We haven't been here for long." he said " This room messes with yuor senses making it seem like you've been here for an eternity though you've only been here for a few short minutes depending on the amount of magic." he said and nodded ' And if I'm not mistaken dinner should be arriving in.." and right as he was about to say a large door opened up on the other side of the hall but the room stayed the same. Silvus and Lillet came out with hundreds of familiars that immediately started setting the table. Elkand nodded " And I was right." he said and grabbed Larkanna hand making sure she didn't try anything since Lillet was now in the same room.

Larkanna was glad that he took her hand, otherwise she would have instantly created a shield or placed a bobby trap of sorts around them. The familiars then caught her attention. Whereas many were hideous and frightening, many were beautiful and graceful. Her lights flared and all the regular torches were restored, bringing the room back into full light. The dancers and musicians alike stopped what they were doing and went to their seats at the table, acting as refined as they had earlier, except for a final laugh or chuckle here and there. "Let's just hope she doesn't use that to her advantage." She said as a lizard-like creature that walked on two legs like a human placed their plates and silverware in front of them.

Elkand smiled and shortly let go of her hand to stand and hug his father and his step mother. They sat down right next to him as the familiar's placed down their plates of food. He smiled and thanked the familiars as soon enough they made their way back into the kitchen. Elkand uncovered the food as soon the room was filled with the sounds of talking and laughter. Elkand's eyes and demeanor changed again back to what they were before all of this started. Elkand began to eat his food slowly talking with his parents and other at the large table that he could. His food looked rather hellish but he didn't seem to mind it. His other hand continued to hold Larkanna's and hold on tight to keep her calm and relaxed. He kept their souls in check to make sure neither of there's suddenly flared and something went wrong. He talked to Lillet as if he wasn't planing of fighting her later and as if he still didn't know Lujei was his real mother.
Lillet then spoke to Larkanna " So what do you think of our wizardly games dear?" she asked her with a almost normal smile on her face.

Larkanna gripped his hand tightly in return as she took a bite of her food, chewing slowly to keep herself from choking on it. Putting her fork down when Lillet looked at her and asked her what she currently thought of the entire competition. After swallowing, she smiled as if she meant it and replied, "It was rather challenging, but in a good way. It's been a good warm up for what I intend to do after all of this is over with and I've visited my parents to introduce Elkand to them." She intended to take back the position of Witch Mother runner-up as her true self this time around, even if it meant killing the Witch of the Wastes. If she had such a status, people would respect her no matter what. Then she could begin to spread the word that wizards and witches were not as different or difficult as they had become over the centuries. "The room with the brooms and gargoyles, that had to be my favorite. Broom racing was once one of my favorite passtimes as an apprentice."

Lillet smiled and looked at her " Good you enjoyed the easiest levels of the competition." she said " If you thought these were good warm ups weight until tomorrow where things will really get hard." she said " Were also removing the protection you've enjoyed until now..yuor partner will be your since now you'll truly die if you fail." she said "Or you might fall into one of the several traps I've placed here like that little girls years ago." she said. She looked Elkand and smirked " Or like little Valerie." she said and this caused Elkand to freeze up and tighten his grip on Larkanna hand. Elkand continued to wait in silence. Lillet looked at Larkanna " I really do hope you can survive this..that witch of waste is begging to annoy me." she said.
