The shield goes berserk, wavering like crazy and the two intrepid hunters are showered with ribbons and balloons. Keva curls up in fright until he see what is falling on their heads, then he slowly loses his temper. "What the heck! Why would he be setting up some sort of silly trap like that?"

I am growing sick of this....I am tired of being F***ed with....magic may be energy...but it has sentience....

Now listen, you old shield....we have two choices here....either you let me and Keva through...or I blast you into smithereens...I'm more than powerful enough to do it, as you can feel from my touch....now which is it going to be?

And finds a pathway on the other side of the shield. It doesn't quite look the same as the one they came in on but he really can't be sure as he was quite distracted at that time.

Keva steps forward, his eyes blazing. He's is even angrier than Kerobian. "Forget the apologies, Kero. This thing reset it's own trip spell. I don't know how or why... but Dad would never have done such a thing. OPen up, ye stupid wall. I WANT TO GO HOME!" His shout rings through the clearing like a clarion.
For a moment nothings happens the the wall simply disappears.

*Kero stays, connecting with the remnants of the shield...few know that magic has sentience...and can converse with a mage whose mind is quiet...Kero has occluded the entire universe, excpet for the shield and he himself...and he asks it why it changed itself on them*

And finds out that all the spells around the small pocket kingdom have been instructed to challenge the young kitsune Prince at set intervals by their creators.

The answer he gets is an unequivocal affirmation. Apparently both Amestru and Lyssan are worried about Keva's predilection towards losing it at the most inopportune times.
