Kero nods, releasing his hugging hold on his little girl and watching her as she flies down to the lagoon to dive in and play and romp.

She swims until she wears herself out, then goes to wallow in a patch of sand before flying to her sunning rock. Landing beside Tes she curls up with her nose quite close to Numbus. tiny basket.
"When will Nimbu fwy?" she asks in a serious voice.

"Not for a long time yet, sweetling."

Smiling, Tes continues to pet Luna, rubbing her hand along the young black's slick scales.
"And you will teach him quite a lot, I am sure. Sweetling, you will be quite a fine big sister for Nimbus, but you know," Tes adds with a sly wink, "It helps to learn stuff before you teach it...and the best place to learn lots of things to teach Nimbus would be in school."

"Of course I want you here, sweetie, but sometimes, even Mommies and Daddies don't get what they want. You do need to go to school, to learn how to read. Wouldn't you rather be able to read stories to yourself, even if Daddy still reads to you? That way, if Daddy was asleep, then you could read one all by yourself, just like the big girls!"

Luna thinks about what Mama says for the longest time while pretending to take a nap. Reading was good. Daddy always read to her and sometime Grandma Ly did too, but whenever she looked at the page the words seemed like a bunch of bird tracks marching across the page to her. Still if she could figure out those darn tracks by herself, maybe she wouldn't have to go to school.
She is thinking about this even as she does indeed drift off to sleep and her dreams are haunted by strange feathered creatures which keep chasing her about leaving those odd marks on the ground. She knows if she could just figure out what they are trying to tell her she can make them go away, but as she cannot read nothing makes sense. It is not exactly a nightmare, more of a study in frustration, but looking at her as she sleeps shows she's not very happy.
Tes sees this and wonders if she should wake her up. It was a known fact that waking someone from certain forms of dreams wasn't a good idea and this one didn't seem to be so much frightening her little girl as much as it was troubling her... almost as though she was chasing something or running from it... she simply cold not decide. So she called to Kero to seek his advice.

Kero comes in, looking at Luna and gently gathering her into his arms, so as not to awaken her. Peering into her dreams, he see the feathered things chasing her, which does not surprise him. After all, dreaming of being chased is a common nightmare for almost everyone. And so he gently rocks her, trying to ease her fear.
As she fusses a little in his arms, however, Kero notices that she seems more frustrated than she does scared. Looking deeper into the dream, he sees the marks and realizes what she is trying to do. Deciding to be a little less upfront about things than he normally is, he gently lays his hand on her head, smiling as he calls forth the memories of Sharmistra, Mica, and Grayson.
Luna is still struggling, trying to make sense of the funny scratch marks, when she feels a pair of strong feminine arms scoop her up, cuddling her close before setting her down. A light voice begins to explain what sounds each one makes, and shows her the different marks, how they seem to repeat sometimes.
"W..Who Yoo?" Luna asks, nervously.
"A Teacher, Luna. I am a Teacher. You can find us everywhere. We work to teach little kids how to read and write, so you can have more fun than ever before." Sharmistra, for that is who this glowing lady is, replies, gently petting Luna. Despite the fact she is a stranger, there is something about her that calms Luna down...something tells her this lady can be trusted.

Seeing Luna calm down, Shamistra smiles fondly at her. "I was one of your Daddy's teachers, has he told you that?"
Luna vigorously shakes her head in negation. "Daddy no tewl me he go to skoowl."
Sharmistra laughs and nods. "Well, he did... I taught him how to add and subract and all that stuff, though he knew quite a bit before his Daddy brought him to me. So would you like to learn how to write yer own name?"
Luna's eyes get big and round. She knew what her name looked like. Kero had shown it to her many times and it was on all her books, just inside the cover. But she had never tried to write it before.
So Sharmistra gently and patiently guides her claw as they scratch the letters out in the ground. As they work the strange birds gather round settling down with contented chirps.
"This is an L.... see... looks like someone kneeling, right? And a U... that's a cup... now the N is a mountain and a valley... and the A is a roof for a house... Now you try it...." says Sharmistra sitting back on her heels.
Kero smiles to himself as he carefully places Luna back down on the ground next to Tes. For a tense moment he fears he has awakened her as she squirms about, then with a soft breath of a sigh, she settles down and drifts into a deep sleep, her frustrations slowly fading away.
"What did you do?" asks Tes with a troubled smile.
"Taught her how to write her name. She wants so badly to learn, but is actually afraid of the idea of school, so I showed her one of my old teachers... and gave her a skill... a small one to be sure... She already knows her name, but I've never seen her write it... now she can..." he replies leaning over and giving Tes a gentle hug.
"Wow, for once you didn't go overboard..." teases Tes gently in return. "And it is a good thing to know... when one goes to school for the first time."

Nodding to her, and giving her another hug, Kero gently takes Nimbus from her, changing him out and holding the small one close for about an hour, giving Tes's arms a much-needed chance to rest. Finally, though, he stands up with a sigh, handing Nimbus to Tes.
"I'll be back by Sunset, Beloved, but there are a couple of things which I must do, both on the ship and in my Void. I'll be back before you know i..."
Kero is stopped short by Tes leaning over and kissing him, her lips locking together with his for a brief instant as she smiles.
"Go on then, sir mage. We will eagerly await your return...and Kero, I understand the job you do...you have to do it, whether you like to or not. So go, and come back to us with a lighter heart and less of a burden on your shoulders."
Nodding to her, Kero gently stands up, though not without a last hug for her and a gentle kiss to the still sleeping Nimbus and Luna. Then, with a silent flash, he vanishes.

When Luna wakes up, the three of them are alone on the large flat sunning rock. Tes is asleep in the sun and Nimbus is curled up in his basket at her side. Not wishing to disturb them Luna carefully crawls to the edge of the rock near her sand wallow and sighs. She had had such a funny dream. It had all seemed so real and yet so unreal at the same time.
Thinking back on the dream which refused to fade unlike so many of hers did, she absentmindedly begins to scratch in the dirt. First a L, then a N and U and finally an A. The letters are rather shaky and when she looks at it she feels proud, but confused. Something isn't right.

Kero soon returns, with a small dragon in his arms, one whom he cuddles like he knows well. Time seems to have passed for him, about a week or so. He also clutches to his chest an old and leather bound volume, one that reeks of powerful magics.
"Well, We're here, Agro. Make yourself at home for a while, then we will return to the keep."
