Kagae starting to feel better looked at Kaiu Roka and had a slight reminiscence over the time he had to walk over it.
"I remember this place, our sensei took us on a trip here to make sure we knew it was here and it's strategic importance and as far as we could tell it seems to exist mainly for the Unicorn to travel upon. That and for the Yasuki to sell wares to the unicorn. Though I suppose it wouldn't need to be there if the shadowland marshes didn't exist."

Kojiro would offer Kagae a day's worth of rations, if Denbe chose not to give the Crab any of his. Kojiro would also forgo rations for the day. Perhaps as punishment for his lack of ability in finding anything to eat...or perhaps because the day didn't seem all that hard. He would observe the Unicorns with interest.

Kagae would take the food suspiciously sniffing at it wondering if it is poisoned but eventually caved into hunger and proceeded to eat it as everyone seemed to be watching some unicorns.

Denbe was rather proccuppied with the Unicorn below, himself, staring and thinking about this as Kojiro offered the sickly Crab his rations. Seeing him already fed, he assessed the need for the fresh food- and since Bayushi-san had the most food of them all, and Kitsuki-san honestly seemed the hardiest and most prepared to go without of them all, he decided to offer the fresh berries (and onions and the like) to their courtier.
"Shosuro-san," he said, quietly offering her the bundle as he kept preoccupied looking below, thinking a while longer before he spoke up.
"If someone could get down there and back up again with enough time to rest before we depart again, we could perhaps trade with them for more food. Or ask if they have seen any more oddities of late than the Crab have spotted..." he said, sounding doubtful as he eyed the slope and distance, trying to judge it.
"On the other hand, it might be better we try not to draw any more attention to ourselves than need be from here on." The Hare didn't even feel absolutely convinced they'd be all friendly and well intentioned, but perhaps it was just how strange and hostile the Crab lands so close to the wall could be getting to him.
"You said that pass is a common place for trade?" Denbe asked the Crab in specific. "If we believe we can chance upon some trade in it on our return, it might be wisest we wait until then. What do the rest of you think?"

"Hmmm?" Hmmed Kagae surprised a question was being directed at him, "Well, yes the Yasuki and a small smattering of traders and merchants, though their loyalty lies with the Yasuki anyway, have set up on the Carpenters pass for whatever reason. I'd say it'd be a good place to resupply on the way back unless we end up travelling to unicorn lands."
After a moment of thought Kagae added, "We should be more careful from here on the carpenters pass is no stranger to shadowland minions."

@Unicorn Half-Time
The little Dragon was feeling quite down after having to admit that she had no knowledge on healing poisons or diseases, and was silently snuggling her one true companion when they came across the bridge. A glance down into the canyon revealed Unicorn colors and scary gaijin habits. Overtaken with one part fascination and two parts trepidation (especially after the shiver that pulsed through her at the mention and memory of shadowlands minions), she was slightly hesitant to add her input to the discussion.
"Can you tell if those men are traders?" she asked as she put Fubuki down and started petting, seeming more like she was talking to the fox than to the group, "If they are... Kaiu-san, do you have enough food to make a return trip?"
It was more a casual observation than anything else, considering she was still in the dark on what this whole trip was about to begin with. The General had just wanted her out of his castle, and this group seemed the best way. He was a bit vague on details after that.

"I agree," Denbe said, cautiously gazing out about the dark, as though someone might be out there to overhear them. "We should take care to move in pairs from here on. It'd be best not to present anything that might lurk a chance to ambush any of us."
Quietly deciding he'd leave off his food for today- one day off to conserve his rations- Denbe set slowly to constructing his tent, and helping the others with theirs. As the matter was discussed (if it was any more at all).
"Bayushi-san, would you prefer I take the first watch tonight?" he asked as the other conversation ended.

"Thank you, Ujina-san" That meant of course, that she didn't have to delve into the stores Kojiro had so thoughtfully provided for her. She was starting to wonder what exactly she was even doing on this trip. There was no reason for a courtier here, was there? Refusing to feel down, she listened in on the conversations the others were having and stored away anything useful for later.

As a re-iteration, this happens about 5 miles before where you would make it before nightfall made it too dangerous to travel. There's still some light left.
Perception or Hunting would both work to judge the climb. From your current standpoint, it would be a TAD difficult (something you probably wouldn't want to send Miyako down), though you might be able to find an easier way if you traveled along the rim of the pass.
But right here, I'd judge a TN 20 Strength/Athletics to climb down, 25 to climb back up. This is reduced greatly if you have rope.
There's no obvious way to tell if these samurai are traders or something else without a Perception/Lore: Unicorn Clan roll, vs TN 15.

"If you wish it. Ujina-san. I'd also request that Kitsuki-san take a watch as well. Everyone knows that the Kitsuki are keen-eyed. I would think that Kitsuki-san would get plenty of sleep if she took an early watch and then we replaced her."
The Scorpion turned his attention to the Unicorns in the pass down below them. "Now, what of these folk?

For traders, they look an AWFUL lot like bushi. Five of them; three Moto, two Shinjo. All heavily armed, and not with wares, if you know what I mean.
For what it's worth, they aren't currently brandishing any weapons, though. They seem loaded for bear.

Denbe nodded then- he'd have a chance to attempt to hone his senses before his watch- until he noticed how keenly some of the others were studying the people below, and turned his attention back to them. "What do you think?"

The Scorpion narrowed his eyes as he scrutinized the Unicorn down below. "It doesn't look like they're here for doing business.....or the type of business you do with Yasuki. I think it's best if we avoid them for now."

"A return trip should be easier if we headed east out of the mountains to crab settlements rather than back tracking over the mountains. We need to be fast getting there not back." Replied Kagae to the dragon.
