xlissilove My cousin spoiled HBP for me. I had to wait til after work to read mine (well I started during lunch as had most of my co-workers). I went and checked my myspace and saw a bulletin from my cousin that said new pictures. So I clicked and instead it said, fooled you and said I hate that (BIG BLANK SPOILER HERE). I was furious and wanted to strangle her. That would make me so flaming angry...more on that in a minute though razz As the days wind down (6 more days!), I'm sure the major spoilers will start coming out of the woodwork, and I'll try and limit my internet use to Gaia (and you guys! heart ) and playing online poker. I've compiled a list of things I WON'T be doing until I get to read the book: Reading IMDB...because that place is where I accidentally read the HUGE SPOILER because some troll thought it was funny. Reading Wikipedia crying ...because you never know what some idiot might try and sneak in there, even though the pages have been heavily protected. Myspace...because even your friends can be complete, insensitive idiots! I'm not clicking on any bulletins (aren't most of them stupid surveys anyway?) or viewing any profiles for a while. Message Boards (of course, including Gaia's)...I won't include the guild of course, but I don't want to risk getting spoiled, and the trolls are getting geared up. Today I signed up for an account at gamefaqs.com (great site if you're stuck in a game, BTW) and they had an interesting warning, showing how big the spoiler thing has become: Gamefaqs Administrator Yes, a full week and a half before the book is officially released, and the leaks are here. So, a few words of warning to those who want to discuss the book: * Please do not post any spoilers, marked or not, from the new book until it's actually released on the 21st. In theory, nobody should have a copy of the book yet, but we all know how theories work. * Posting passages from or links to a leaked copy of the book, or requesting them, will get you banned. Posting short passages from it (marked for spoilers) after the book is out is fine and falls under Fair Use, but not until the 21st. * Posting unmarked, major plot spoilers (like the last book's three-word spoiler, you all know it by now), is ban-worthy, and likely axe-worthy, no matter how old your account is, at least for the first few weeks after release. We know there are going to be people doing this regardless, so we're just telling you up front what will happen so you can't claim ignorance. * Fake spoilers will be treated just like real ones; even if you're not actually spoiling the book, you're just trolling, and until the book is out there's no way to tell the difference between the two. * And finally, if you're a Harry Potter fan and don't want the final book spoiled, just get off of the Internet now. The leaks have begun in earnest, and you're going to see lots of spoilers all over the place between now and the 21st. I'm glad sites like the above are getting serious about wanting to be spoiler-free, but most trolls don't care about being banned. I think I'll take his advice and stay off most of the internet until I'm finished reading Deathly Hallows. EDIT: Also, have a look at this article Solitude can silence the spoilers that discusses these issues in depth.

I'm so worried it'll get spoiled for me at Otakon this weekend... crying
25,000 fanish people are bound to = a lot of trolls.
Sigh... I should get used to the idea that it's going to be spoiled. But maybe I'll be lucky. sweatdrop
Maybe not, though. neutral

This just in:
The spoilers are already popping up. There are photographs of pages and everything. I haven't seen them but I've heard from others!
So be really careful what websites you visit! They're going to be everywhere. Just be careful!

So be really careful what websites you visit! They're going to be everywhere. Just be careful! So things are just as I feared...as Mad-Eye Moody (well ok it was Barty Crouch Jr who said it but) says..."CONSTANT VIGILANCE!" I'm sure if I stick to my prescribed internet sites, I should be safe. And perhaps I should use the time I have to re-read the books domokun I think people that spoil this book on Gaia should be banned for life, but this is a free site so I doubt that'd matter much.

I decided to check Yahoo for their headlines, and lo and behold, there's a story about Deathly Hallows spoilers leaking onto the internet. I would hope the story doesn't actually REVEAL any, (one would hope Yahoo is sensitive to their spoiler-free customers) and since I'm not taking any chances, I won't click for the story. This is hard! Blessed be the guild heart

I'm going to the Midnight Potter Party at Barnes and Noble for sure on Friday. So I'm a tad worried it might get leaked if some jerk flips to the back and announces it. But I know that if that happens then a gigantic crowd of loyal and fierce HP fans will probably maul them to death while wishing they could use Avada Kadavra.
So, since this seems to be the official HP thread, anyone seen the movie? I just got back from seeing it a second time. I love it.

I probably will soon, though. When I went to pick up Book 5, there was a guy in the line randomly opening the book, and reading sentences loudly, but they were mostly worthless sentences like "That's what I said!," Harry said." or something, but still, people started giving him evil eyes and the person behind him started beating him with her copy of the book and eventually he shut up

It has been suggested (and I think it's a great idea) that if you do go to a midnight book party that you bring an iPod or a CD player to listen to, as non-Potter fans will be out there shouting the secrets! Now as for the movie, I thought it was great! Order of the Phoenix was a very long, plot-heavy book, and they touched on all the stuff I wanted to see. My favorite new character is Luna, I thought the girl who played her was just perfect!

Luna was precious, I want to adopt her! I really enjoy OotP. It really seemed like a movie specifically for people who have read the book and it did touch on just about everything. There were a few things later in the movie that would be a little hard to understand or truly appriciate if you hadn't read the book, but it was great. I am trying to get my boyfriend into HP and he's a little impatient with the earlier ones and I told him that OotP isn't a bad place to start, but after seeing the movie, I think that still holds true with the book, without background the movie would be lost.

Oh I loved Luna in the book and thought you was perfect in the movie. Luna fast became a favorite character.
And I'm definitely bringing an mp3 player. It's always in my bag anyway. Besides, I have Harry and the Potters on my mp3 player. What better music to listen to? (well besides the soundtracks) Does anyone else like wizard rock? (Yeah I'm slightly obsessed - someone made me a gryffindor scarf and a stuffed sorting hat as a gift once. I love both).

I have officially finished book 7. Don't worry I will not spoil anything. However I will say that it was really good though a bit slow moving at times.
