Phantom of the Forum I think that is becoming my favourite instrument. Partly because I dubbed our school's marimba 'Erik'... sweatdrop Thats pretty cool that you named the marimba. I kinda laughed kind of to 'cause at my school everybody in pit named the mallet bags.

I'm in the same situation - I rock at mallet instruments but I can't play drums for life, though I wish I could. In band, all the difficult mallet parts get piled in my music folder while the others play toms, snare, timpani, etc. Sometimes I feel as if I'm not even in the percussion section. I'm in my own little section instead. It doesn't help that I'm a girl. The only other girl in the percussion section in concert band is actually an injured saxophone player...

I feel your pain, what with the "Drummer" thing were are percussionists this is coming from the previous Auxiliary Percussion captian and the current drumline captain. (i wish "drumline" was "Marching precussion ensemble") and i yell at people for calling us drummers.
i consider that s vulgar term and it should never be used what so ever but besides that WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! Hardcore Vibes player!!!! Hardcore Snare!! Hardcore BASS!!! ( I LIVE TO PLAY THE BASS DRUM!!!!)

I feel u on this. I too get pissed when ppl call me a drummer. This past season I marched bass drum, but I was in pit 3 years b4. And I've always been the mallet player. I always played marimba in wind ensemble and percussion ensemble. I get mad whenever ppl call me a drummer. Or, even worse, a stupid drummer. Then I really get pissed. "I'm not a drummer to begin with u stupid a'hole." Oh man, I go off on ppl. But I've always been that way. Even when I first started playing, I considered myself a percussionist not a drummer. I play everything: snare, tenors, bass, every mallet instrument, aux, piano, and just abt everything else in the percussion family. So I'm def a percussionist. And I won't let nebody tell me ne differently.
I refuse to call the battery the "drumline". I consider both the pit and battery the drumline. That's part of why I hate the movie Drumline so much. I mean sure, Battery wouldn't have made sense but still.
But yeah, i'm a percussionist not a drummer. You can't show me a drummer that can play Stevens grip. No drummer could ever play the ending portion of "Yellow After the Rain" without messing up.

i hate to be called a drummer as well, due to the fact that if you are a drummer, you only play the DRUMS. we, on the other hand, are PRECUSSIONISTS, for we play many instruments that help keep the beat, such as, yes, drums, but also timpani, bells, marimba, tom toms, and many auxillary instruments as well

Kokihi I am a drummer, but not in the band. i hate it when people call the perc. section the "Drum section" cuz there are so many things in Perc. that arent drums. sweatdrop right, cause when i carry my drumsticks around for playing snare, people ask "you're a drummer?"

Yeah! I play almost every mallet instrument in band, and almost never touched the others. I wanted to, but I suck at them. As I was in the best band in middle school, not something you'd want others to know. So, I nailed every part (piano training helped) and now, as I can't take the heat (literaly) of marching band, I am a proud veteran.
