I suppose I should be ashamed at having to ask this, but I never figured out what the Special stat dealt with in the Pokemon games. Attack Defense and Speed were easy enough to figure out. But I just didn't understand the Special. Can someone fill me in? cry
The system was pretty broken for the longest time, considering that for example, pokemon like Hitmonchan, that had crazy high attack power, dealt s**t for damage, becuase elemental attacks like thunder/fire/ice punch relied on the pokemon's special stat for damage
In Diamond and Pearl now, the system has finally been fixed, and moves that use some sort of physical blow now use the attack stat, and moves that are would be considered long range, (beam type moves for example) would use the special attack stat
Of course, with that little fix, pokemon like Gyarados, which were on the top of having extremely high attack power, Hyper Beam, which was their best move, no longer does the damage you'd come to expect from the previous games
On the flip side of that coin though, Alakazam, which is blessed with a very high special attack power, can now do insane amounts of damage with the very same move.
