we were screwed out of making BOA finals because our show was audience-oriented (is that the right word?) and the judges were looking for something more *classic.* ah, well, at least the crowd loved the show

At an SCSBOA competition, one music judge gave us a good score but the other music judge gave us a score that was 100 points lower!! It was sad...the judging and scoring in the SCSBOA competitions this past year were really messed up..

Yes, and it's because we are a small-town band who just joined a big league. In mid-season he gave us a pre-season score, and the rest of the judges gave us decent scores. I'm still bitter about it, but it turned out okay in the end.

ya. at championchips, the judges didnt like us, and the people that went to school there got to play on their own field. Tell me thats fair. i dare you.

OH YEA! ok, a brief history on my school's band: we have gotten all superior ratings, never gotten anything lower than 1st place, best overall in most categories at all our marching festivals/contests/etc. for the last 10+ years. WELL...last year (the first MS state marching championship) we won, we were the state champions, this year before the championships my band directors (husband and wife) kind of had a few disputes with the MHSBA (they're over the championship) and we watched EVERY performance this year, knew we had it in the bag, and guess what? 4TH PLACE!!!!!!! WTF!?!?!? we were in shock , nobody moved, everyone told us we shoul have won and the people who did...had no theme for their show, we're boring and had plain barney (purple) marching uniforms! come on people!!!! nobody hardly remembered their show! you dont know how bad that felt esp your senior year!!! crying crying crying
PostPosted: Sun Mar 26, 2006 2:07 pm

We lost everything (including Grand Champion) to another band by 0.3! crying We were sitting right beside each other when they announced it, too. At another competition, we had a rival band go uncontested in 4A... and they ended up winning GC, even when they were out of step the whole time.

One of the people who passed out the trophies from the school we were at didn't like us because in another local competition with the band of this school, we took first over them. So even when announcing scores we had first according to the paper in the peoples hands they gave us second and another band first. We were soooooooo mad at that! There wasn't much to do though. It wasn't by much we won, so it could have looked like a mistake or something but everyone was yelling back on the buses about what happened. mad

EVERGREEN HIGHSCHOOL DID NOT DESERVE TO WIN SWEEPSTAKES AT ALMOST EVERY NORTHWEST COMPETITION WE FREAKING WENT TO!!!!

THEY FREAKING MARCHED IN STRAIGHT LINES THE ENTIRE TIME!!
And oh no, if you were thinking they were doing slides, you are very wrong.
They FACED their drill spots.
Oh, and when their music got tough, they would halt and play.
Because it was too dang difficult for them to comprehend marching AND playing.

I don't know if they were at Sprague this year, but we got first in prelims anyways, so i'm content.
(This was BEFORE finals were cancelled due to someone in my band breaking their ankle in the like footdeep mud.)

I'm not so much upset that we were screwed at all these competitions, (because we had a stupid show that was freaking too hard...) but that Evergreen basically screwed everyone else in the entire competitions.
We're not a BAD band, and we usually place in the top 3 every single year, placing first occasionally.
But THIS year was completely different.
I don't know if it was the stupid freshman, but we got screwed because of Evergreen AND our drill writer.

Our drill writer wrote impossible drill spots on the field, and our visual instructors were either forced to change the person's dot, or make them "jazz run" to it. (Basically sprint in time).
For example: One of my drill spots required me to go from 10 feet off the front sideline, to go to 10 feet from the back sideline in 8 counts while marching backwards.

I didn't like our drill this year...it was a little TOO strange...

But I heard that Evergreen finally marched exhibition in their OWN competition this year.
Thank GOODNESS!
We didn't go because of homecoming.
We should've gone...

It used to be that my band was in the USSBA and the ToB. We used the USSBA to practice for the Tournament of Bands stuff. We didn't care about it, and all of the judges for USSBA knew it.

My freshman year, we went to... I don't even remember what it was. Something big and important to everyone who actually cared. We kicked a**, and everybody could see that.

We tied for Grand Champion with a school that was 100% USSBA. We saw their show. The only thing they had going for them was that they were the brainchildren of this league.

We won more captions, though, and got a special award from the Marine Corps, so while we were officially tied champions, everybody else considered us the winners.

---

There was another time when we won Chapter Championships for the ToB because the only other band in our group got a time penalty.
That band conveniently forgot about what a time penalty was, and said that they won the competition on their school's website.

There was much flaming and abuse of the Autograph Book that week. xd

Jazz Running's a b***h.
The drill writer tried to make the Tubas jazz run backwards for 16 counts this year.
They told him he was on crack, and he re-wrote the page.

You're really lucky that you were able to have it rewritten.
Our drill writer worked for another organization, and refused to spend anymore time correcting our drill...

He almost didn't rewrite it, but then 2 of the tubas tripped and dropped their horns.
It wasn't a pretty sight.
Especially when the third one kept going and almost tripped over the fallen peoples.
