Make a video. write a pamphlet. tape candies to the packet. and send a bag of milky-ways or something with the video. Kids love candy. For a double whammy, play for the elementary kids. get them into band, and then brainwash them even more come their 8 grade year.

Other than speaking to the kids in the feeder schools, there is nothing really that students can do. Offer to make videos, scrapbooks, and such for the director to show the kids. For my high school band, they are rising in membership each year because of the level of musical and technical difficulty of the things they do and how well they do it. This put the recruting primarily in the hands of the director. There is also tons of support from the community since this there is only one high school in the county. So perhaps performing more in the area and trying to get community support. Put atricles and pictures in the newspaper everytime the band does something or goes somewhere. It helps. My band has grown from 48 members to 130 in 8 years. It really is amazing. Good luck with your band in the future. = ]
