Sekhmet - Lioness.

How could anyone forget about Sekhmet eek

And Heru's was the hawk. Eagles don't live in africa or the middle-east

Yes! Also, did you guys know that Bastet/Bast and Sekhmet were actually thought to sometimes be the same goddess? Bastet was the more subdued, daily life aspect and Sekhmet was the passionate side who sought vengeance.

If I remember correctly, Sekhmet was actually a war goddess too.

Not so much a war goddess, but one Who stood agianst the rebellion that rose agianst Ra. More accurately, She is a protectress, just like Bast, and She is the enforcer of Ma'at (punishing the wicked and protecting the just)., as well as a Goddess of Healing and Lady of Plague, in both turning away and inflicting. Although She was involved in some wars as the protector of Her people, She never started or caused wars, which is what a war-based deity is usually defined as.

Thank the Gods I'm in a guild like this, or else I'd have all my information wrong. Stupid incorrect website sources... Who's the god of the internet, I need to complain! D:<

(lol, kidding)

That would be Djehuty...He's the God of Information, Wisdom, yaddayadda.... razz

One of the worst insults that I've found was in an edition of a mythology book that was so euro/human-centric to the point of critisizing the egyptians for having anthropormorphic beings. In the introduction (nevermind that the book only contained Greek and Norse stories) she said that the Greeks were more advanced for having completely human gods *rolls eyes*. I think that the Egyptians were wayy more advanced because of that sort of unity with nature. For all of the ancient Eastern religions make so much more sense to me (of course there is the Hindu religions that also have animal-ish gods and goddesses).
I hate how dismissive western-religion-believers can be. I remember a girl from a religion class I took in highschool commenting on how silly the idea of the Book of the Dead was.. and how hypocritical in my eyes! With all of the similarities with Osiris and Jesus. She thought that the Egyptians were such simpletons that they believed that they would be saved if they wrote down spells for the afterlife. Nevermind the weighing of the heart, imagery that carries into modern english language- "heavy of heart".
bah end rant.
Yeah, I like that the Egyptians actually truly respected their environment.
