Younger/dumber kids feel that Gaia is a young person only place. They fail to realize that this isn't an age restricted meassage board. I bet a lot of people use Gaia as it is such a hight trafficed board and won't die off like others (has seen many go down). I don't know why they think it's a kid only board though.... Maybe the name isn't too mature sounding, or maybe the customizable avis is for kids only... I donnoe.... The only thing I can say is they're lucky I can't hit a button near my compy that sends a few amps. of electricity to those meatbags for every snarky remark they make on anyone older then 16... By the way.... what does "GTFO" mean? Just as I learn so much net speak crap, more is thrown out there.... bah! Last one I figured out was wtg (I would say "way tag" after everytime I'd see it)...

It mean "Get the f*#k out".
It's not very nice stare

I rarely disclose my real age in the general forums. I mostly post in guilds for a reason. I'd rather not deal with the ignorant trolls. At my age, I've learned to just roll with the flow. I know who my friends are. smile

I don't speak leetspeak, nor do I care to learn it. I know the common acronyms, though.

She asked a simple question and really didn't deserve all that flack. I agree 100%.

xp I've learned a lot of chatspeak while on Gaia, though I rarely use it.

I address this in my profile as well, but I think a lot of the issue is that teens think that because anime and manga have in the last five years had a popularity boom, it belongs to them. THEY discovered it. THEY own it. They don't realize how long role playing has been around, or anime clubs on campuses. Both of those things predate me. XD I can't remember what I was watching, but there have been anime clubs around since 1975 I think? It's hardly new, it's just more common and popular now.

When I first joined almost three years ago, I got a ton of flack for being 21. And I got a lot of the same snotty comments she did there. There are quite a few members who are old enough to be grandparents on the site and even more who are parents. I had to laugh at all of the ones who were betting there are almost no parents on the site. Suckers. We have guilds with large numbers, not that they care.

Parts of it are being young and arrogant, but I think the Greater Internet ******** Theory probably covers it best. They aren't accountable to anyone here and you can bet that IRL, they wouldn't have the gaul to say something like that. lol

Did we invite AntoniaMerEnfant? She stuck up for the original poster pretty well, and is 23.

I can't believe people these days. I admit that I'm pretty immature sometimes, but I'm never disrespectful to someone who knows more than I do, or is my elder. Honestly. That's horrid.

hee hee, I don't need to be invited smile I've been in the guild for some months now. That's how I found the thread, through this thread. Though I'm flattered you thought a good job.

I still wish we could get through to those kids and not just hit them with the big "r-e-s-p-e-c-t" brick.

Oh, ugh, seriously. When I first started cosplaying (around age 16-17), I was about the age these kiddos are now, and when I went to conventions back then, us youngsters were definitely in the minority.. girls especially!

When I go to conventions now, it's so often (and unfortunately) like a day care for teenagers, with a bunch of tweens and teens getting upset when you tell them that, y'know, running around screaming in hotel hallways just might not be a good idea. rolleyes And oh yeah, jumping up and down in an elevator isn't very smart, because when it gets stuck, it's your fault. rolleyes I must say, kids never caused that kind of trouble when I first started going to cons. Adults are in the minority now.

I hate to sound like an old fogey, but why can't these kids behave themselves? I'm glad that anime is popular now, I would have been so happy to see it be that popular when I was a their age.. because I had to scrounge to get even a little bit of anime back then, now it's easy to get. I just wish they were more respectful. When I'm in cosplay, I don't look my age, so people don't usually guess and think I'm one of "them." But really I'm wishing they would be more quiet and settle down and stop causing trouble lol! It was my anime first! hahaha.. When I'm on con staff, I hate feeling like I have to wrangle someone else's kids. They are giving anime fans a bad name when they cause such trouble. stare

And don't get me started on the Gaia kids at cons..

We were all kids once. We were never like the kids on that thread, but we we all kids. We were disrepectful and stupid. The kids on that thread thinks it's kool to dislike and disrepect old people. We never wanted to get old. "Hope I die before I get old." - Pete Townsend. These kids don't want to get old. No they will never understand right now what we know now. They will remeber this one day and say, heck I was such an a__hole. The ones who do understand that they were disreprectful and ignorant, will never tell the other ones. It just wouldn't be kool. Like I said on that thread, I have had some great conversations with alot of people on Gaia, kids and old people. The ones that are ignorant, well I stay away from. The ones that are not, I chat with and make friends with. Leave the silly kids alone. We don't have to put up with their crap, we just don;t have to talk with them.

I agree with some of the comments made in this thread. As someone said,"THERE IS NO AGE LIMIT" on here. I know I was a kid once and don't like grown ups into everything. On Gaia Grown ups have as much right to be here as do young people. I go through the many threads here on Gaia and find many things that I like and don't like to read. You can't be a horse with blinders on or have have a narrow vision of the world on here. The rules of Gaia are pretty straight forward and don't favor grown ups or young people. There's my 2 cents. sweatdrop

I agree with Denise we have to be accepting if we want the kids to accept us. They don't want us old folks around, all the time. It would just be easier not to tell your age until you get to know the people you are chatting with.

This guild is cool. It did aggrevate me a bit when I was reading it. Sorry, I am not on too, much. I have my own that I run. But I love this. If I want to talk to someone more my age, someone understands me a bit more, I like to come to this guild. My guild is great too. Love them too.

It's revolting that some people are so ignorant. Then again I can't blame them. I sadly was a part of tha group before... but after 11 I got a little wiser. sweatdrop

Wisdom comes with any age. It is a wise man who will sit and listen, but also knows when it is time speak up when somethings not right.
