BUMPING: 1. Posting just to post. SOME actually SAY "Bump!" which is all well and good if it is a bumping GAME (in an off-topic sub-forum, mind you!) or in the CHATTERBOX. It is NOT kosher in a literate guild like ours. You will be warned fairly. You will be reminded. But after that, you will be banned.
2. Sometimes it is just saying "Yeah." or "Okay" to bring it to the top or proverbially "hear yourself talk." Sometimes it is quoting someone else every time with no comments of your own. If you want people to continue to talk about something, contribute to the conversation... something intelligent!
3. Don't make a bunch of multiple posts. You can post as many times as you WANT in a thread... but not in a row.
4. Just, FYI Bump stands for "Bring Up My Post".
An especially bad form of Bumping around here, and why this thread began is called "necro" "resurrecting" "necroposting" or "thread necromancy" or "frankenposts." That's bumping really OLD threads and will get you yelled at and banned a lot quicker than regular annoying bumping.
A little netiquette lesson for old threads you really like? start a new thread and link to the old thread so that readers can become familiar with the background information.
Or, if it's really good, Let us know... maybe we will use it later when we reorganize... we are going to make some really handy help links when things calm down.
