"Come in."
Drat. Her rhapsody of perfection was cut short by some dreadful reason, no?

Kyne opened the door and closed it behind him, standing by the door as he waited for the headmistress's response.
Headmistress Lindalle. A little short relative to his own height, but not necessarily short among the women. Her chestnut hair tumbled down her shoulders, and he could feel her green eyes on him. Ah, green eyes. He has those too. Lindalle was eating a scone. Kyne grinned.
"Well, greetings, headmistress Lindalle! I'm Kyne Fordon, the new science teacher," the science teacher greeted. He held out his hand to shake hands if need be.

Her brow arched slightly at the impossibly chipper Fordon. "Please take a seat. I take it you needed to speak to me about something, correct?" She ignored his outstretched hand. Ladies did not shake hands.
Ah, yes. In impeccably cold form, her green eyes nearly formed slits, her jaw set. Placing the scone on an empty plate, the Headmistress turned her chair to face the unbearably cheerful man, her hands clasped together on her desk.
"Before we start this impromptu meeting, Mr Fordon, you are to refer to me as Miss Lindalle. Is that understood?"
Harsh.
And cold.
That was Merryn.

Kyne didn't miss a step. He grinned once again. "Why, thank you!" As Kyne went to take a seat, he agreed with the headmistress, "Well, Miss LIndalle, you are right that I would like to speak to you about an issue, so..."
Hmm... Kyne swore that LIndalle's hands were clasped a little too tightly for comfort. Ill fate befell the new science teacher though, and as he bent to sit down, he somehow tripped over the leg of the chair and sprawled toward the desk. "... and hat shows the unpredictability of science to some extent," the peasant grumbled. Luckily, his head had just missed the edge of the desk. Instead it had landed on the desk. Kyne quickly picked himself up and sat down. "Ah, might I be a little to enthusiastic," he muttered. "Lady Luck is not with me today."
Kindhearted
And warm.
Yet quite awkward at times.
That was Kyne.

"Quite frankly, I suppose that would be a yes," Kyne answered looking at the headmistress with a smile. "Well, since I am to teach science, I was curious as to what sort of topics if any are restricted."

Her eyebrow rose again. "Mr Fordon, it is a science class. I expect it to be taught correctly, according to the curriculum that has been provided."
She stood, grabbing a book off of her shelf, Science stamped on the front in gilt lettering. She thrust the book at him. "Everything that is covered in this book must be covered by the end of the year, Mr Fordon."
If he opened the cover, he would find a table of contents printed within with the following general concepts.
# Astronomy # Biology: physiology, anatomy, palaeontology # Botany # Chemistry # Geology # Physics
"Mr Fordon, is that all?"

Kyne opened the book and nodded as he looked at the contents. It was true that he had received a curriculum, but he had never actually found out what the text book was. "So, to put it bluntly...as long as I do what the curriculum says and get through everything in the book, then the course is being taught correctly. Have I restated that correctly?" This would prove interesting. Granted he had to still look through the book to get an idea of how correct the book was, there should be enough leeway to make the class enjoyable and strange.
"Alas, all is not done, Miss Lindalle. I must interrupt your daily activities to ask you if there is a lab available that I can perform experiments in," Kyne said.
((I'm assuming that there is an area for labs in the science classroom for the student.))

((You assume correctly.))
Nodding, the headmistress responded coolly. "Precisely, Mr Fordon. We have been charged by the Board of Regents to get through the prescribed course of study for each student."
"As for the labs, yes, there are student labs. As for one of your own, you may have to set up shop in your quarters. You must keep it clean, presentable, and furthermore, not something that could cause damage to the school. Is this understood?"

((By the way, shall I make a thread for the science classroom or will you do that? And student labs in the same room then?))
Kyne smiled. "Of course. Presentable and clean, alright. I can do that." Of course I don't know what her definition is, so I'll just come up with my own. "As for damage and safety, well, I'll do my best not to get fired." He nodded somewhat seriously, his eyebrows furrowing slightly.
These science sections are quite general. I guess I'll have to look through the book and see how good the students are to determine how much in depth the course material will be. However, I know I'd like to challenge the students and ... confuse the heck out of them sometimes for fun on both sides.
Kyne sighed. "Well, that concludes the bulk of the questions. Next time, would you like me to set up an appointment or may I randomly knock and barge in?" NIce choice of words there, Kyne. When you mean you're outgoing... no need to be sarcastic about it.

((You are more that welcome to make a science room thread. As for the labs, that is at your discretion.))
She cleared her throat, daggers forming with her eyes. "Mr Fordon, there is no need for sarcasm amongst professionals. It is preferred that you set up an apointment, though I understand that there might be a problem that may need to be solved without prior scheduling. If that is all, I bid you a good day, sir."
Yup, she was cold, all right.
And with her final words, she turned her chair around, looking out of the window, her gaze strong.

((Understood.))
Kyne nodded purposefully. "Ah, yes, of course. Good day to you as well, madam. Do enjoy the view!" And with that, the science teacher headed out of the office and closed the door. Outside, he quickly jotted down the name of the science book on his notebook. FIrst order of business was to look through it. Then, science classroom setup and exploration of the university's decor and facilities. Afterwards, he would think of how to arrange his quarters for the rather "dangerous" lab. There wasn't really anything absolutely dangeruos in it.
Kyne started on his way back to the room. He gathered that a copy of the textbook should be in the room somewhere. He shrugged. He wasn't sure what to make of the headmistress. She seemed to want to appear strict and to distance herself from everyone. The peasant grinned. It wasn't just the students that he wanted to open up. HIs coworkers and the whole university in general would just be a heck of a lot more fun if everyone was free and open.

Bleh.
People like Fordon irritated Merryn to no end.
Blissfully cheery and all. Making a face, Merry resumed eating her scone.
Life was not cheery.

The next knock at the door of the headmistress rang in the softening hours of the day, when the warmth of the sun becomes an orange wash before dusk. Ms. Wentworth had arrived lately, finding her train difficult (in the least) and her cabby unhelpful. So was London and all the great cities of the world; they nary had time for the wander, no matter how purposed.
"I do hope it is not too late," she mummered aloud as she knocked once more.
It was not as if she expect the headmistress to live in her office; most certainly the majority of the staff would have retreated into their quarters to dress for dinner.
Or perhaps everyone ate alone here. It would certainly be inefficient.
"She is perhaps in her corridor."
But she lingered outside the door a moment longer, because she was apt to linger where she thought no one was. And also, she had hoped to gather her cirriculum. There was certainly no rush; just a social technicality.
Because she could not just simply slip into her corridor unnoticed and assume the position of instructor.

"Yes? Enter."
The voice on the other side of the door was stern, perhaps even angry. The remains of a scone remained on a saucer on her desk, and the sound flipping of files surrounded the woman, and her dinner lain untouched on the cart from the kitchen staff.
