i didn't start percussion till my sophmore (this year) year of highschool. it was for marching band. but I'm really a trumpet player since 5th grade. But percussion is super fun and awesome.

I would choose high school because any other time they just treat it like a class where as in high school because it is your last years they let you do whatever you want a lot of times. So it's just a lot more fun in terms of jamming or doing freestyle.
