Well...Hey...no scolding. redface
I did say it has to only be fluff. Call it what you will for me, Shota, or shounen-ai, I only like the fluff. That's why I always say that when people ask questions like these. And I suppose there's an age limit for me as well...as in nothing under 10. But..I guess I can't say I'm NOT a fan of shota as any guys over the age of 23 make me want to look away.
I guess I'm a skewed sort....

The only shota I like is Loveless. Other wise I am not a big fan of huge age differences.

SeNalove Well...Hey...no scolding. redface I did say it has to only be fluff. Call it what you will for me, Shota, or shounen-ai, I only like the fluff. I was about to say that shounen ai and shota are two different things...but they're not. They're essentially the same. Shota is all about Shotaro Complex, the male equivalent of Lolita Complex, another thing that I think too many people glorify. If you had a young daughter/son, would you really want perverts touching them and lusting over them? And Shounen Ai while, directly translated as Boy's love, is not the same thing as Boy's Love or BL. In Japan, Shounen Ai refers to people who like little boys, aka people with a Shotarou Complex, who think of these young boys in a sexual manner. They use the term Boy's love (in English, so probaly "boys rabu") or BL to refer to the soft and squishy romantic love between boys (not the hard yaoi stuff). Anyway, as This is Major Tom pointed out, Shota is really more in line with the pictures posted. I think that a lot of people aren't really aware of what they're claiming to enjoy. If you're enjoying small boys having sex at young ages, then yes, you like shota. Shota is all about the sex, not the fluff. If you think that's really gross and wrong, no, you're not a real shota fan, you just don't know what you're talking about. Shota =/= Boys Love.

I see...so...are you lecturing me or agreeing with me? redface
Perhaps I should not have posted at all. I did ask a question on the Dictionary thread for a more detailed explanation as to what Shota was, but never got a response. I can't really give a clear explanation I guess when someone asks, since I don't even know the corrent definitions. sweatdrop
Can't I just say I like cute boy fluff-love and be done with it? redface

I think a lot of people make this mistake, including myself. I thought shota was about an underaged boy having sex with an older man, not preschool aged children. xP I guess it's just about having sex with five year olds. :/

I see. Thank you. That was what I figured as well, because the youngest pairing I've ever created was 10 and 15 ( even then, it was only hugs, nothing more...it's like I can't stress that enough redface ).
I guess I just really want to be careful about this. I have this weird habit of finding the perfect couple to being exactly five years apart. >.< For some reason, in my mind, it's the best age difference. sweatdrop
Just wanted to check, as in my own personal comic I'm creating, the two main guys are 17/18. Since that's under 18 and that was in the 'definition', I just wasn't sure if it was Shota or not.
Wow...I didn't realize I was so paranoid about it... redface

SeNalove I see...so...are you lecturing me or agreeing with me? redface ....maybe I am lecturing sweatdrop But it's for your own good, to make you a better fan. wink But really, I have this overwhelming sense of frustration sometimes because people open their mouths with their verbal vomit of "OMG! I LOVE SHOTA!" and in all reality, they have impressions about it that are completely wrong. I'm sure there are a few actual shota lovers hanging around, but for the most part it's people jumping on a bandwagon going "OMG I like younger boys, I totally like shota!" But they don't. *sighs* Can anyone understand my frustration? This insanity never ends! Get your facts straight people!

I totally understand. =3 I hate it when people jump to conclusions about things they don't even know about. I bet there's a lot of confusion because there are different definitions of things circling all over the internet. D: Namely shota, which I see used freely by fans often. I was always confused on what it was. Thank you! 3nodding

I understand your frustration...that's why I tried to be careful in my response. I know that definitions can be confusing sometimes ( obviously...just look at me ) and that sometimes it's just hard to claim, 'Fluffiness is cute'.
I didn't mean to make anyone upset. redface Just wanted to be careful was all.

If you just go by what's said in the definition of shota, it's all happy happy fun fluff bubbles. But again, the reality of the genre is anything but. Anyway, to show that I'm not just talking out my bum, here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shota

Well, thank you for clearing that up for me. I know, personally, I like to be correct about these types of things. Even though I'm still unsure as what exactly you'd call my fandom by the strange ages I like to stick on my boys ( as I've given some examples ) I guess from now on I'll just keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself to save myself from making an incorrect/embarrassing statement once again. redface

xP Can we just stop arguing about it please? Thank you For-Chan Cookie, for clearing up the definition. =3 I'm sorry if I sounded rude. SeNalove, please, stop with the self pity. You can say whatever you want to, don't feel guilty. It was an easy mistake lots of people, including myself, make. :]

I know some people who like shota, but not for the reason you'd think. They just read shota just to laugh at it. I can kind of see why. Sometimes it's so absurdly obscene, you can't help but laugh. Like I remember seeing this shota with extremely short shorts. They were really short. I kind of giggled at that. What kind of parent lets their kids were those kind of pants? XD The artist is trying too hard.

Shota is fine, as long as it's not the extreme hardcore kind because that'd be a little too close to child pornography and that's just plain bad.
