3 in the 'hon' counter should be
sanbon.
9 in the 'ko' counter should be
kyuko.
4 in the 'tsu' counter should be just
yotsu, not yottsu.
Likewise, 6 should be
muttsu, and 8 should be
yattsu10 in the 'tsu' counter doesn't use 'tsu' at all. simple 'too' using 'o' not 'u' (i.e. とお for those with Japanese Text Support).
The 'tsu' counting system is based on the traditional Japanese counting system that they had before Chinese influence was introduced onto the language. If I'm not mistaken (and I might be), the ichi, ni, san... system was introduced when Chinese Kanji were introduced to Japan....This is the same reason why the first ten days of the month (minus the first) use the same counting system.
