Our newer crash cymbals have really small straps which are hard to put your hands through. I've kind of adjusted to both pairs, so I'm holding the weight of both cymbals in my left hand and resting the right on top of the left, and then resting both on my stomach. There's no complaints from anybody or my instructor about it, but I still don't know if it's right. o.o

What I've seen people do is just grip the straps really tightly. I don't really know much in that department, though, so sorry. sweatdrop
