Cher just nods, like it was only to be expected. In a way, she's relieved, as it's less for her to manage. She finds it a lot easier to talk to one or two people at a time rather than dealing with a crowd.
"That sounds.. fun. I hope he is having a good time, then." She means it, though it may not sound like it, coming from her. She's still in uniform, and feels out of place as is.
"You're the host. I will be player two."
(Who, me? Naaahhhh. Cher is hard to provoke, no battles from this corner. What defines a grandma couch anyway?)
"Alright, but you get first choice in racer then. Den rules." She smiled as she handed off the controller to Rae, clicking the N64 on.
(grandma couch Charlie and Minty decorated the den purely based on what they found most comfortable. There are 0 things in here that qualify as 'good design' xD)

"Alright, but you get first choice in racer then. Den rules." She smiled as she handed off the controller to Rae, clicking the N64 on.
(grandma couch Charlie and Minty decorated the den purely based on what they found most comfortable. There are 0 things in here that qualify as 'good design' xD)
"That's fair." She finally sits, or more like perches on the edge of the cushion. Hat and gloves come off to be placed on the empty cushion next to her. Now slightly more comfortable, she takes the offered controller and waits for the character selection screen to pop up.
(Oh lord. Cher is secretly judging their taste. Secretly. lol But hey, to each their own!)
Minty plops down on the floor next to where Cher's sitting and leans up against the couch, quietly hitting the start button as needed to navigate the selection screens.
"Hey, what engine class?"
(I want the den to be like...those lazy summer days at the family cabin or grandma's basement where you play on old video game consoles while eating too much candy xD It probably does not match the decor of the rest of the guild)

Minty plops down on the floor next to where Cher's sitting and leans up against the couch, quietly hitting the start button as needed to navigate the selection screens.

(I want the den to be like...those lazy summer days at the family cabin or grandma's basement where you play on old video game consoles while eating too much candy xD It probably does not match the decor of the rest of the guild)
Cher quietly scoots until she's a respectful foot's distance from Minty. It's nothing against her, she just has personal space issues. She's silent for a moment as she contemplates the question, then rattles off a line of techno-nerd babble until she realizes that - oh. She means the game. Way to go you absolute moron.
"It doesn't matter to me." Inside, she's seething about how utterly embarrassing she is, but on the outside, her face is a blank mask. With patience, it will eventually crack.
(Nothing wrong with any of those things. Also, there is only such as a thing as too much candy as a kid. Also also, like Cher, I may have forgotten how one plays Mario Kart. God, I'm old..)

The smile is not particularly reassuring, but at least Minty isn't laughing at her, so that's a plus.
"That's logical." There is a long silence while Cher contemplates which character to pick. She ends up going with Yoshi, and promptly confirms her selection.
"I realize that while we are friends, I do not know much about you. Would you be willing to answer a few harmless questions?" There is another, shorter silence, before she adds, almost as an afterthought, "I'll tell you some things about me that you may not know in return."
(Okay, lemme rephrase. Even grown-a** women (or in my case, marshmallows) can overdose on that sweet, sweet substance known as chocolate. I never played bc I didn't have a 64 as a kid. I only know what I have gleaned by watching others.)

"All right." It takes her a moment to think of something that isn't too intrusive, at least not right off the bat. "What do you do for a living?" She would be highly thankful, and although rainbows are one of her favorite things, she would be hard pressed to forgive Minty for such a slight.
"I think I mentioned being a cop the last time we spoke. Did I tell you I have an assigned partner?" That was something she felt safe enough to talk about, but she would answer pretty much anything she was asked
(rip in pieces Minty, we hardly knew ye..... That works for me. It might be just us two, anyway.)

"Adventurer, hm? You must have quite a few stories to tell, then." Cher starts off well enough, but soon she's lagging behind. Her face betrays nothing, but the increased button presses from her controller are a certain tell. "As far as I'm aware, Gambino is the most expensive place to live, inflation or no."
A couple mushroom power ups later and Cher catches up reasonably, but she wasn't far enough behind to warrant a Blue Shell or Star. Yet. "My partner is.." she trails off, muttering softly to herself in French - probably a curse, there goes another banana peel - before she continues her thought. "He rarely takes anything seriously, unless it is work related. We balance each other, and his talent is useful."

Minty used a three green shell ring as free reign to run head-on into the computer Bowser, smirking a little as the kart went flying, "What kind of talent?"
"I can sympathize." She really could, probably more than anyone. "I've been living in Durem now for nearly two years. It's rather nice." Well, what do you know. Cher actually offered up a bit of info without being asked first. Progress.
"He can teleport from one place to another." Cher herself has many talents, but most of those are - were - well-known. She grabs another coin, and ends up with a Red Shell as her next power up. Best to save that for later, when she actually sees Princess Peach. She's almost caught up, at least.
"I like being in the middle of the city. Don't have to travel anywhere to get stuff. I can run down to the corner store and pick up groceries, walk a block and be at a club, roll out of bed and into the coffee shop. It suits my laziness." The speakers squealed as Minty coasted around a turn, "Teleportation sounds like a good talent for a cop. Particularly those that engage in foot-chases."
