There are some exceptions, but in general cartoons aren't as big an investment as they used to be for American TV stations, especially on broadcast networks, and that difference shows. Saturday morning and afterschool programs like the Disney afternoon up to the late 90's or early 2000's were a big draw for broadcast channels as kids were out of school and church, but as America got increasingly secularized and the channels got more competition from Cartoon Network (24/7 cartoons!) and the internet they dropped the budget for the shows severely, till you get the Fox Box which basically shows the cheapest kid friendly anime they could find. Budget's a serious concern for how a show turns out. I'd say Japan has kept up with some awesome cartoons in the past decade cuz cartoons mean something to them, but in America you basically have like three cable channels that have a near oligopoly on cartooning: Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nick. They can pump out junk if they want because the competition won't be that good and they kids'll sit through anything waiting for "The legend of Korra" to come on.

A lot of these shows aren't entirely gone; you can still watch some of them on Boomerang, Teen Nick and they've got Animaniacs on The Hub, now! Tom and Jerry are still on CN, on mornings though.
So yeah, they've got alternative channels where you can watch a lot of the old shows. But not all of them. I still miss Muppet Babies and Tiny Toon Adventures.
I think I'll search them on YouTube later.

sun god leto Has anyone else noticed that cartoons have slow started to suck horriably? is it just me or are CN, Nick, and Disney slowly killing themselves? what happened to shows like SWAT Kats, Batman animated series, Dexter's Lab, courage the cowardly dog, Samuria Jack, Johnny Bravo, Doug, Pinky and the Brain, The Addams Family, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, the first season of pokemon, Tom and Jerry, and any cartoons that fall between the timeline of 1990-2004. remember this is my opinion, if you like new cartoons good for you, just don't ask me to watch them. You got some good ones on that list. But I have to say Courage the Cowardly Dog was just a bad rip off of Eek The Cat. Disney killed Doug which use to be one of my all time favorites. Cartoon Network died when they added a show with real people as hosts, Nick died long before the flood of bad cartoons.. I wanna say around the time they canceled Zim, but that's just me. Pinky and the Brain died when they tried to cross over with Tiny Toon's Elmyra. The Addams Family cartoon never held a candle to the actual show. I don't know exactly when they killed Batman, but once they removed that yellow circle from around the bat on his chest the show started going down hill. Johnny Bravo, well for real you can only do so much with a big dumb womanizer before it gets old. Pokemon dies because it became a "Cash Crop" and they kept remaking the same pokemon and just gave them different looks and names as if 151 wasn't enough, last I checked there were like 655 now. The problem with not only Tom & Jerry, but also Loony Toons, & Scooby Doo was they modernized such iconic characters. In my opinion of course.
