Well, let's see...Hmmmmm. I know I am getting old because I start into a room with a definite purpose in mind and when I arrive, I can't for the life of me remember what the devil I went into that room for! Oh, and there are times when I cannot think what the name of something is and have to resort to Charades to figure it out with some help from family and/or friends! Oh, yes...one more thing...now what was that?

I do the exact same thing! rofl

That was happening to me even when I was fourteen. My mind goes in too many directions at once.

How about this: running into something online where a kid complains about it being two years since their favorite show went off-air and how that makes them feel old, then realizing the teenage brat has no perspective because you were 18 when that show started.

Realizing the first Video game that you played when you were a kid will hit it's 20th anniversary in only two more years.

Realizing anything that came out the year you were born has already Passed it's 20 year anniversary.

Here's one that's not so egocentric: noticing the wrinkles on your parents.

Yeah, my parents are both in their 50s now. I keep telling them that they're not old yet, but I know it's coming soon. It scares me to think about having to be responsible for them in their old age.

Which video game are you talking about? Speaking of old games, I got my N64 when I was in the 5th grade when it was brand new. That was 15 years ago. How can my N64 games be 15 years old already? gonk

How about this one? The batteries in your old gameboy and gameboy color games have died.

And talking about kids having no perspective? I was psyched to find out that Fraggle Rock is now on a new station called the Hub. I used to watch that all the time, but it's weird to think that people just a few years younger than me have never heard of it. I am a HUGE muppets/fraggle fan. xd

But, back to tv, you remember when new episodes came out for shows that are now on TV Land. How can the Fresh Prince of Belaire be old? gonk

gonk I know! That and "The Nanny" and "Everybody Loves Raymond." NONE of them are really old at all! I miss when TV Land had OLD shows on ALL the time!

You know you're getting old when you find three fanny packs in your dresser after deciding to clean the thing out. You also know you're getting old when you find an old film camera that you used to use back before digital cameras were invented, and your mind is so decayed that you can't remember how to get the film out, and you end up burning the exposed film inside when you open the back. sweatdrop

You know you're getting old when emo means a music genre
and not a silly high school clique.

Sonic the hedgehog 2. By far my favorite platformer ever.

I actually never saw fraggle rock.

Back when will smith was still making music videos, Now there's one thing I won't miss ,hahaha. Or maybe I should say "ha-HA,ha-HA" or "WOO-hah!" Or one of those random sounds he made while he got jiggy with it. Even As a kid I thought that was hilariously dumb.

Oh, here's one: When you see all these dumb kids talk about how much they "love invader Zim, a show that the little snots only know about because of the fad it's currently experiencing, while you ACTUALLY WATCHED THE FREAKING SHOW. I would have a shirt or something if not for fear of being associated with the vapid little snots.

OH! L.A. Gear And they still make them!
PostPosted: Thu Jul 07, 2011 4:10 pm

I had some of those! rofl I also have several shirt clips in my dresser for some obscure reason. Do you remember those? You wore them like this.

I didn't even realize that Invader Zim was big among the under 20 age group. I knew that it was coming back, but I thought it was just because of nostalgia. I used to watch it, but there were shows I liked more.

Let me tell you something funny. I'm going to be a chaperone on an upcoming church trip, and for one of the days at the camp we're supposed to dress up like our favorite cartoon character. Putting my anime obsession aside, I started thinking of characters I could get away with being. I started listing off characters, and of course none of the teenagers knew who they were. I finally settled on Gretchen from Recess because a few of the teens remembered that show from when they were in preschool. xp That reminds me, I need to find a blue dress like hers. sweatdrop

Emo is a music genre now? I thought they were the sad kids who wore black, wrote poetry, and cut themselves. confused

You know you are getting old when.....

You see young twenty-year old's saying that they feel old because....
and your kids are older than (or the same age as) those feeling old.

Get that cane....
Get that walker.... I may need them before the day is over. lol
PostPosted: Sat Jul 09, 2011 3:55 pm

I guess that would do it Ami! sweatdrop But, the great thing about Gaia is that you can forget about age as you hide behind adorable avi's that are always at the prime in their digital lives. lol

On the same token, it makes you feel old to see kids you taught in daycare and realize that they are now teenagers.

No matter your age there will always be something or someone that makes you feel old because you are reminded of something that you have been through in the past. The key is to remember that there is so much more that you haven't seen or been through yet and that you still want to do! You are only as old as you feel. You are never too old to learn something new!

I am enjoying your postings. So, please keep them coming. They remind me of earlier times in my life. I truly can relate.

It's kind of funny that our beginning to feel old makes you feel young. blaugh Did you feel about the same way when you were in your middle 20s?

I know I still have a lot left to do in life, but I am at a weird transitional phase where I don't really fit into any category at the moment. I have my college degree and all, but I can't find a job, so I'm stuck living with my parents. I don't have co-workers to make up an adult peer group, so I usually end up being around my brother and his teenage friends all the time. Being around them makes me realize just how big of a gulf there is between a 25-year-old and a 15-year-old in terms of maturity, interests, and childhood memories. They're probably the reason I feel ancient all the time. lol

So, to further oblige you, you know you're getting old when you buy sensible orthopedic shoes instead of the cute ones that kill your feet. I might look dorky in my Dr. Scholl's shoes, but at least my feet are happy. mrgreen

Yes, I have to say that I did feel about the same when I was in my mid 20's. You may think the shoes look dorky, but like everything else it all depends on what you wear with them. If you are going to be on your feet a lot be nice to them. Otherwise you may have health problems later in life that could have been prevented if you had just taken better care of yourself. May I suggest that if you have a knitting/crochet group in your area, you check out their sessions. Usually a range of ages partake. You would more than likely feel young there. I think you would enjoy yourself.

You know you are getting old when teenagers compare you to their grandmother.

You know you are getting old when people ask you, "When did you know you were getting old?"

Just remember, what is old will be new again.

My mom is a 2nd grade teacher, and she told me that she knew she was getting old when her students stopped accidentally calling her "mom" and started accidentally calling her "grandma." xp

I like comfy shoes. I'm way too practical to be highly fashionable. blaugh

I go to a knitting group that's mostly composed of old women. I know of another knitting group, and that one has even more old women (ages 70+). I actually get along with all of them very well, and I love enjoying their company. They all think it's so great having someone as young as me picking up knitting and enjoying it. You're absolutely right about feeling extra young while I'm around them! That is, until they start pulling out pictures of their grandchildren my age and start talking about how they just got married for found great jobs. sweatdrop
