yes, i kno you said i couldn't play a monk, but coming from D&D monk just means unarmed fighter to me..but without the techniques it seems kinda pointless

also, i can't see the shugenja listed among the ronin. is there a specific page number or is it listed separately.

...uhhhm...the book that i have is the L5R 4e, and it has only 4 schools of Ronin, and they're all Bushi....should i be looking at a different book?

oh-kay, now that i have the right book....

for the Ishiken-Do advantage, if i were to have the obligation to the Phoenix Clan, would i gain the 4 points from the disadvantage, or is it just inherent in the advantage (thus no points)? or is this not an option at all because of the nature of being a Ronin?

also, for the Blessing of the Elements advantage, it has Void as an option, is there a special way to gain affinity in the void. Or would i just go with Traditional Priest Ronin, and choose void for my affinity, in which case, would i just choose any ring for me to have a deficiency in since void has no opposite? Despite this, it seems that if i were to choose this route, i would have access to only two spells of the primary school despite being granted 3, because there are only 2 void spells of mastery level one....unless i am misinterpreting the rules there as well.

EDIT: i re-read the affinity/deficiency section, and figured that last part out...heh

Well to answer your first one if you carry on reading it says you gain the obligation but gain no points from it. Secondly it wouldn't be obligation but dark secrets because the phoenix guard their void magic secrets closely and are unlikely to teach it to ronin. This can be extremely harmful though if someone notices that you're casting void magic and once again will probably end up with your character only casting when dire situations rise.

I'm unclear on shugenja rules so I may have to refer the second question to someone else.

Edit: On a guess it does sound reasonable that you get to choose your deficiency.

DESCRIPTION

standing at just under four feet (3' 10") the small shugenja is often overlooked, unless he is caught without his hat to reveal an unruly shock of brilliant red hair. Despite his height, he isn't afflicted with dwarfism. He is small but his proportions are all correct, he just looks like a miniature adult.


BACKGROUND

Yuichi would have died at birth if not for the talented mid-wife that assisted in his birth. He was born early and has always been small. This and his bright red hair always made him the target of bullying.

as he grew, or rather didn't, it became clear to his parents that he would be of no help on the farm due to his size and obvious lack of interest. It was around this time that the midwife returned and offered to take him on as an apprentice. His parents, thinking she meant medicine were glad to get see him off.

It wasn't until later she revealed herself as a Shugenja and that that was what she would truly be teaching him. Even more surprising, after the right amount of time, it was revealed to him that she was Ishiken and that it was no accident that she was there to save him at his birth.

i also noticed that i forgot to take off the damage dice penalty for being small.

finished the background. i'm willing to change the hair if it's an issue...but i like it...

also, i'm not sure how rare, or unlikely that a woman would be a ronin, and that she would be able to teach a male....buuut i thought the concept was fun.
