Dustpaw StormClan----Apprentice "A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort." ~Herm Albright "Attitudes are contagious. Are yours worth catching?" ~Dennis and Wendy Mannering "Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine." ~Anthony J. D'Angelo
Dustpaw lay the medium sized thrush and the mouse between his paws. He turned his sapphire eyes to Featherheart, gesturing to his catch. "It went okay," he admitted, shifting his paws, his tail swishing across the leaf litter covering the forest floor.
The apprentice watched Whisperblade and Squirrelpaw training. His thick fur and bushy tail had a dusting of dust and leaf bits for his prowl through the forest while hunting. He hadn't noticed specifically, but the elders most likely would make some snide comment about it.
Dustpaw raised his forepaw, pulling at a stray piece of lead litter caught between his claws. The apprentice twitched his ear, looking curiously at Featherheart. "How did you do?" He asked, glancing at his mentor's catch.

Featherheart gently prodded Dustpaw's catch with her paw. "How'd your tail do?" She asked curiously before hearing him ask a question of his own. The pretty ginger warrior shrugged. "Eh... Not as well as I was hoping. But I guess it's pretty good given the circumstances." She meowed, her pale blue eyes setting on Squirrelpaw and her mentor. "I hope Moonblaze and Fadinghorizon are doing alright. What with the sick, Amberpaw and the new rogue." Featherheart meowed, she didn't normally voice her worries. But she didn't want to burden most with it, and she trusted her apprentice. "What do you think of all the rogues Stormclan is accepting?" The ginger she-cat asked curiously.

"My tail did fine," Dustpaw chirped, his bushy tail swishing. His sapphire eyes focused on his mentor, becoming extremely serious for his upbeat personality. He bowed his head, images of a wounded Amberpaw rushing to the front of his mind.
Dustpaw raised his head again, thinking for a moment about the rogues that had joined the clan. Being of pure clan blood Dustpaws cocked his head to the side before saying, "More cats in the clan mean that there are more mouths to feed, but rogues know how to hunt. But they have to be taught to respect the warrior code." Dustpaw was touched that Featherheart trusted him enough to tell him her concerns and, contrary to popular belief, he was one of the older apprentices. He could think deeply and intelligently about things, even if he didn't choose to show it.
"Moonblaze and Fadinghorizon will be able to heal Amberpaw, she'll be okay," he added after a moment. Even though they were mostly false reassurances, he had to force himself to be cheerful and positive, he couldn't allow his mask to fail now.

Featherheart purred at his response about his tail. Good! If his tail hadn't hindered his hunting, then that meant he figured out a way to control it. It wasn't easy, no doubt. But if they worked a little bit harder, then it would soon become easy and then he would be pretty much ready for an assessment in a few moons. She couldn't help but purr proudly. Her first apprentice.
The ginger warrior kept her pale blue eyes on Dustpaw as he grew silent, thinking about the question she asked him. As he spoke, she nodded. She understood where he was coming from. That was the view of a few cats. Featherheart on the other hand, thought otherwise. Warrior life wasn't for everyone. She didn't quite agree with the constant allowing of rogues into the clan, but she would never voice her opinion. Oh no. That would be disastrous. The ginger warrior looked at Whisperblade. She liked the tom, yes. But that didn't battle much with the fact that she didn't agree. He was different, he already knew the warrior code as opposed to a loner. He was... He was just different. She never really saw him as "just a rogue". Featherheart shrugged and looked back to Dustpaw.
"Oh yes. I'm sure they'll be able to heal her. I just hope they're not under too much pressure y'know?" She wasn't really expecting a response to that, it was just her talking. Featherheart blinked and looked at him again. "So, which one are you going to give to Amberpaw?" She meowed lightly, trying to lighten the somber mood that had settled around them.

Dustpaw's eyes brightened at Featherheart's last question. He looked down at his prey, he tail swishing excitedly. "I don't think she'll be really up to eating when she wakes up, so I'm going to give her the mouse, but I'm going to give Moonblaze and Fadinghorizon the thrush," he chirped, purring excitedly.
Dustpaw put his paw on top the thrush, wondering if it would be enough for Moonblaze and Fadinghorizon. His ear perked, looking up at Featherheart. "Will there be enough prey for all of the cats?" He asked, thinking about all the mouths that needed to be fed. Because StormClan was suffering prey shortages due to the earthquakes, did that mean that the other clans were suffering as well?

Featherheart chuckled at the excitement he showed. There, that was more like the Dustpaw everyone knew. "That's a good idea." She agreed softly, licking her paw and drawing it over her face a few times to get the tiredness out of her. She didn't know why she was tired. Featherheart shook her head and looked back to Dustpaw.
"Huh?" She blurted before his question finally settled in her head. She shrugged sheepishly before shrugging. "I don't know... But I do know that we will find a way to push through this. We've been through bad things before. We'll find a way to cope with what prey we have." Featherheart replied.

Dustpaw nodded. What Featherheart said was true. They'd make it through. Dustpaw pricked his ears and twitched his bushy tail excitedly. He looked at Featherheart, his blue eyes shining.
"Okay," he chirped. Everything would be fine, he was sure of it! "Should we go back to camp of keep hunting?" He asked his mentor. "I want to check on Amberpaw. Make sure she's okay." He hoped they could go back to camp. even though he didn't really know Amberpaw, she was still his clanmate and fellow apprentice. Besides, if he checked on her, maybe he'd be able to shake the after affects of the earthquake.

At her apprentice's next question, she thought back to what they had already caught. They'd caught a nice amount for the circumstances they were in. Even so, she wasn't sure if they should go just yet. Glancing to Dustpaw, she sighed; her tail twitching in thought. Featherheart considered saying they should stay and try to catch more; but maybe there wasn't any more for the time being. Besides, they wanted to hunt enough to keep the clan fed, but not enough to prevent the prey from returning. So with that in mind, the ginger warrior rose to her paws. "We can head back." She meowed, gathering her vole and starling. Flicking her tail against Dustpaw's shoulder, she slowly led the way back to their makeshift camp.

Dustpaw picked up the mouse and thrush. His bushy tail swished rhythmically. He bounded to keep up with Featherheart. The prey would be running thin for quite a while, but if they'd been able to catch anything this soon after the great shaking of the earth, they'd pull through.
He kept up with his mentor, his warm personality returning. His sapphire eyes shown with pride for being able to catch anything in the present condition. He's have to go without eating for a while, but he was fine with that, as long as Amberpaw and the weaker members of the clan ate.
Dustpaw couldn't think of anything to say. The optimism had returned fully. As long as he had his own sunshine, he'd be fine. The temporary camp made him upset, but at least they had somewhere to camp.

POST TIME-SKIP A path to follow, a path to meet a path of sorrow, a path so sweet
DarkstormDarkstorm shifted on his feet nervously. She was late.
The sky was gray and clouded, heavy with tension. He thought it was appropriate for the situation. Finally, she emerged from the edge of the hill, her lithe silver body weaving through the undergrowth.
"Silverstar," he purred in greeting.
She padded over to him silently, her green eyes glowing with amusement. "Hello, Darkstorm. Sorry for the delay, it almost slipped my mind." He flicked her flank in a friendly manner. "Is not to worry," he said, his deep voice light with humor. "We are all of us growing older." Silverstar settled down on her haunches next to him. They'd been meeting here to share tongues and chat, mostly. A getaway from the bustle of her duties, a sanctuary from his new life as a warrior.
Just a place to be alone, together.
The implications were well-known to them both. Neither were absolutely certain that it was leading somewhere, but they both entertained different hopes. Silverstar was more hesitant; her old mate was an ever-present guilt. Darkstorm had similar worries, although he'd had more than one mate before his last, and he was used to moving on. Even though they weren't sure, their little meetings were comforting. Perhaps they were too affectionate for friendship at times. In any case, they welcomed the company, and the hope it provided. The secrecy is what revealed Silverstar's hesitancy on the matter, but Darkstorm was willing to play along.
"Galestar is in agreement?" he asked curiously. "Ah, yes," Silverstar replied, "He doesn't want trouble. The bridge will mostly help Moonblaze and the ferrying of herbs for us." "Good for StormClan, yes. Warriors are still doubting Moonblaze, but my daughter never loses faith in her. I am always with my daughter, and if she believes in Moonblaze, I am also in believing." Silverstar nodded and sighed. "Moonblaze has her reasons for keeping something from us, if she does. I suspect she wants to talk to me privately. Maybe telling Fadinghorizon what she knew would have led to something unfortunate. I hope that next time I see her, she will tell me what she has seen." Darkstorm nodded in silent agreement as they continued sharing tongues.
"How is your leg?" he asked. "Better," she said, "Fadinghorizon's helped it heal. It's hardly limping anymore. Though I find myself feeling tired frequently. StarClan has granted me with many lives, but I'm still growing older." "You have long time yet," Darkstorm stated sharply. "Do not be worrying. We age all, but you are still healthy like young cat. Dreams beckon but do not hurt." She purred and thanked him, feeling reassured.
They grew silent as they groomed each other. Birdsong floated above them in the trees, but they were not interested in hunting.
(( They leave after a good, long chat. ))Storm hath made me, burdened with fear storm hath saved me, my one so dear
