I'm hoping so. It would make things easier but at the same time a PITA. It would have just been easier to add the microHDMI to the device and then go on the internet to buy a cheap MicroHDMI cable and be done with it.

Now we'd have to buy a dock the I'm sure will be like $39

Some Xperia Play stuff. YEAH... what is with Sony making crazy disturbing commercials overseas? Want to see crazy stuff look at their European PS2 commercials.

I will search youtube for the strangest of commercials, the Japanese comercials can sometimes be really odd but not in a funny odd but a creapy odd xd

On the port, we can always hope that they will change things between now and the release model, concidering its still just a prototype.

I'm pretty sure it was European. Some sort of hotel or something.

Yeah, I'm hoping that there are some cosmetic changes done to it. The protoype is actually pretty decent.

There are a number of possibilities for ports on it that are hidden so we will have to see.

My biggest concern is the battery, as is, it is sealed in with the system and that worries me, I know that the first was not so great initially with battery life and its hard to be portable if you only last a few hours.

It's expected to be the same as existing PSPs.

More info on NGP.

  • while many big name developers have received the devkit for almost a year, for other smaller studios who want to get the NGP devkit, they must supply a 20 page concept document on a game they want to release at launch and the kit will arrive before April
  • Sony will release the Wi-Fi only edition of NGP in 2011, while the 3G version will be available before holiday season 2011
  • SCEE said the NGP version of WipEout HD runs on the same PS3 engine with no change to the art platform. That means full resolution, full 60fps, all the shader effects are the same as the PS3 version
  • Sony wants developers to create releases that work across PS3 and NGP, so that the submission process can be streamlined with only a single submission require for a title on PSN and NGP
  • Sony insists that they don't want the exact same game on NGP and PS3, they want at least some kind of interactivity between the two versions with NGP only extras
  • Any shaders for PS3 will work on NGP, don't have to rewrite anything. What would have taken 2-3 months before could take just 1-2 weeks now
  • All games at launch will be available on Flash media and PSN
  • NGP features 3 gyroscopes, compare to 1 in PS3 controller, which allows for more accurate movement, both front and rear touch panels are six point mulit-touch capable.
  • "The touch pad on the back is fantastic," the source said. "It does feel second nature, like you're having a real impact on the world." As an example of the potential, SCEE described squeezing an object in-game by pinching the front and the back simultaneously.
  • SCEE said the first year will focus on hardcore players, year two on hardcore and teens, and the audience will expand younger and older after that
  • Social networking and located based features were also highlighted. For instance clues could be put on social networking side which lead to virtual gifts, that could in turn make use of camera and augmented reality to distribute new skins and avatars
  • The NGP devkit will takes under 20 minutes to setup, compare to 3 hours for the PS3 dev station, it is fairly easy to use

I have a feeling I would get the wifi-only version of the NGP, don't know about you but I am not sure I would want to worry about a data plan for a 3G version.

Depends on how they go about the plan. I personally want to get NGP ASAP. So if I can get the 3G model without getting the plan I will. Though it's highly possible the WiFi version will be cheaper so I'm not sure.

I would assume the wifi would be cheaper, but not by much I would think.

Some more info:

  • The NGP quad-core ARM9 CPU will run at a lower speed than the PS3, therefore it won't be as powerful as the PS3. The lower clock speed is intended to prevent the system from overheating
  • The NGP has two high-framerate cameras that can detect human faces and head tracking, you can take pictures of yourself and use them as avatar
You can also capture real-life textures for use in games like LittleBigPlanet
  • The NGP Game Card will be in 2GB or 4GB size, which contains 5 - 10% writable memory for game data and patches
  • The maximum capacity of Game Card can be up to 2TB
