User ImageAbigail watched her Michael climb to his feet. He was exactly as she remembered him. She still had a smile stretching his lips open so that her small straight teeth flickered in the bright sun. Abigail accepted his assistance, and once she was standing again, her face turned solemn.
She accepted the kiss with only a small blush along her cheeks and ears, and then she answered. "Oh no Michael." she said in mock seriousness, "I'm 26 now, didn't you know?" She carefully turned in a slow pirouette as if modeling her new adult self for him to see. She was wearing a pale pink tank top that only accentuated her soft curves and narrow waist, her jeans were modified into capri pants; cut off right below the knees, and although she had been wearing converse before, her feet were now bare. She had her hair pulled back into a french braid, but tiny wisps had escaped to frame her lovely cheeks.
Her face broke out into a grin and then she seized his hand and gently started pulling. "Come on." she said, "I want to show you my car." She had to fight the urge to hop up and down in her excitement. She was so proud of that little car. She had bought it with her own money right before school the summer before, and she couldn't wait to show Michael.

((I'm so sorry... My computer kind of exploded stressed ))

User ImageMichael grinned bashfully at Abi's solemn face and then laughed outright at her shameless carrying-on of his joke. His laugh turned into almost a sort of pained grimace when she turned and did her little show for him, a blush rocketing up his face like some stupid teenager. She was just as he remembered her, if not changed physically, but the rest of her - her clothes, her hair, her quietly-charming personality - were all the same. Only now it was alright for him to outright admire her.

Next thing he knew he was being dragged bodily through the Evanses' cozy house. It reminded him a lot of his mum's house, really, but with more electronics around the place. At first he thought she was dragging her to the piano in the front room, but then they went straight through into the front yard where a little Volkswagen was sitting like a cartoon turtle. He appraised it in an unexpectedly adult sort of way, instantly wondering about gas-mileage and airbags and the like, then looked up at Abi very seriously.
"S'great Abi, but where do you sit when all the clowns are inside?" he asked in a mockingly grim voice.

User ImageAbigail pouted at Michael's words, looking hurt and hurriedly patting the curved roof of the little car as if to comfort it. After a few seconds, she turned and punched him playfully in the shoulder. "My baby is not a clown car." she insisted, touching the hood with an unconscious gentleness sparkling in her eyes and face.
"Besides, I bet your first car wasn't as good as mine." she grinned at him, leaning against her car with her arms crossed and one foot lifted up to rest against the car door.
Without giving him much time to answer, she threw her arms around Michael for a second time. "I missed you so much." she murmured into his shoulder, squeezing as tightly as she could as if this would keep him here forever instead of leaving in just one short week. She nestled as close as she could to him, feeling the comfort of his presence wash over her in calming and relentless waves. The world was right once more.

User ImageMichael was laughing again. Gods, he found it so easy to laugh with Abi! "My first car? A Land Rover. You know, one of those massive trucks? Like the one Action Man drove. Got it last year." he boasted, even though his Ma had had to help him pay the last bit of difference on it.

He was about to go on more about Action Man and his many adventures when Abi's arms were around him once again and he could no longer think straight. These hugs would have to stop before he became just another babbling dope, but for now he returned the embrace.
"You too, kid," he murmured, forcing himself to say 'kid' as a reminder that she was, indeed, just a puppy compared to him. Everything about this was wrong, and yet it felt so perfect. He let out a breath and felt himself relax against her when the front door of the house opened. Michael sprang away from Abi as though they had been doing much more than embracing and immediately began praising her new car once again, his face furiously red. "Looks like it'll save ye a lotta petrol money, at least. One good thing that come from a little turtle-y thing like this..." He turned to the front door where Abi's ma was standing and watching them, probably trying to find Abi or something.

((Weird ending is weird.))

User ImageAbigail put every bit of herself into that hug. As much of her heart that she owned and more. The feelings that she didn't understand, the compassion that she was to young to know coursed through in that brief moment, and just as she closed her eyes to enjoy it just a little longer, Michael was suddenly pushing her gently away.
It stung a little. That he'd called her 'kid', and now that he looked so guilty. It was as if she'd done something wrong, and she wasn't sure what it was. She nodded vaguely at Michael's words, though she wasn't really paying attention.
She turned slowly to look at her mother who smiled and spoke. "Abigail, sweetie, would you pick up your sister from Katie's house?"
Abi pouted and turned to Michael, pleading with her eyes for him to go with, but her mom noticed right away what she was doing and quickly said, "Michael doesn't need to go with you, he's already had a long day, you just leave the poor dear alone." she admonished, turning and walking back into the house.
Abigail hung her head a little, "The only bad thing about having a car..." she said, nodding at the door her mother had disappeared through. "Um, I guess I'll see you when I get back then."

((Lol don't worry about it, it's fine))

User ImageTrying furiously to get control of the color in his cheeks, Michael nodded and waved Abi off before retreating back into the house with Abi's ma. "Looks like a proper lady now, doesn't she?" he commented idly as they sat together in the living room. Mrs. Evans grinned at him in a way that he at first suspected was because she could see his strange, perverse thoughts (which really weren't all that perverse; he was just paranoid), but then it turned out she was just smiling. "It's so good to have you back, Michael. How's the band?" she asked eagerly, and although they had already done a lot of catching up, Michael hadn't told her about the band's hiatus. He didn't know if he wanted to. If he admitted that they were having problems, that would make it real. So instead he made the same vague comments and sat back in an armchair, tapping the armrests impatiently and looking out the window. He left his book outside...

User ImageAbigail drove as fast as she could without attracting the attention of the authorities as she drove to pick up her little sister. She pouted nearly the entire way there, sure that this wasn't entirely fair at all, she'd barely had a chance to see Michael yet, and now her mom was sending her on errands.
Finally she found where he sister was staying and picked her up.
It didn't take her to much longer to make her way home.
"We're back!" she chimed once they made it through the door. Abigail's little sister smiled and raced to give Michael a quick hug. He was like the favorite uncle. He'd been there for almost her entire life.

User ImageBy the time the girls got home, Michael had already pulled out his guitar and sat on the back porch playing some Spanish-sounding music when he heard Abi's car pull in. The moment he heard the screen door creak he put down the instrument and got up just in time to be attacked by a smaller version of Abi. He lifted her easily off the ground and gave her a smooch on the crown of her head before letting her go and letting her scamper away. He grinned up at Abi as they were left alone in the sitting room. He sat down on the sofa and held his guitar out to the young girl. "Have yeh been practicin'?" he asked her as he offered the instrument to her.

User Image "Every single day." Abigail answered with a coy smile. She gracefully accepted the guitar, holding it carefully by the neck as she lowered herself to to the step where she could rest the familiar curve of the body against one knee.
Experimentally she strummed her fingers gently over the strings, listening to the melodic tones ring out deep and playful. The beautiful sound spread from the center of her stomach and out until it reached her fingertips, resonating with a warm buzz that drew out a peaceful smile onto the young woman's face.
Slowly her eyes closed and Abigail began to strum out a soft melody. She plucked with her fingers, drawing out the notes as if they lived there somewhere inside of the strings and the wood, and they only needed a little coaxing to come out. It was a smooth and lilting melody with one or two Irish accents. As the last note rang out, Abigail opened her eyes, and suddenly she seemed awkward. A light blush tinted her cheeks and she self conciously stroked the frets, waiting for Michael to say something.

User ImageMichael sat, in veritable awe, as Abi played his beaten old guitar on the sofa across from him. The music flowing from her hands and the strings was enough to make him believe in the old Irish legends of faeries he had heard from his gran as a boy. It was perfect, scarily flawless, and just plain beautiful. He sat with his head propped up, elbows on his knees as he watched her. His eyes travelled from the soundhole in the guitar, up the strings to the frets, up the neck to her fingers, up her arm to her shoulder, up her shoulder to her neck to her face to her hair to her eyes her nose her cheeks her lips.

He closed his eyes so he could listen and not see, but it didn't change anything. Now that he couldn't see the girl herself he could see all of the wonderful things that could come of their life. He saw her up on a stage with him, smiling coyly as she sang from her place, occasionally drifting over to share a microphone with him. Oh, the songs they'd sing...

The song ended and he opened his eyes, watching her fingers dance lightly over the frets, ever-restless. He lifted his head from his hands, his eyes boring into her so strongly that he thought he might choke on the sight of hers. He smiled broadly.
"That's ten times more beautiful than anythin' I'd ever written when I was your age, Abi. I swear to it." He clasped his hands together between his knees and made his smile a bit less obnoxious and a bit more humble. "Y'know I'm playin' a show next week? Oh, who am I kidding, of course ye do. Wanna write some piano for me?" he offered instead.
