all I have to say to this is that you obviously have never fought a good luigi, marth, IC, or fox player. it is key with all of them, (fox because of waveshine) and basicly if you cant do it and you use any of them, you are much worse off. fox isn't really countered by anyone because of waveshine, making wavedash extremely important to him.

Well.. You got me there. I haven't fought any really good players that use those charactors, with the exception of fox. But I have seen the effectiveness of luigi and marth's wavedash... And I have to admit, you mentioning them puts my theory in the mud. I use Sheik, and although her wavedash isn't useless, it also isn't all that great. Because of my location, I have a hard time finding Melee challenges that are within my reach.
... I see how this could keep me from playing in the fights where wavedashing matters... Thanks, Felix...

and if you really want to face me roy, why wait? I will pwn you in SSB online.
just search on google project 64, download the emu, and well, everything after that is illegal to discuss here, but if you talk to me on AIM I will tell you how to set up SSB 64 etc. for the compy. many of the techs used in SSBM were first in SSB, and I will show you. and just to rub it in your face, I'm going to beat you with jigglypuff. not kirby, not pikachu, jigglypuff.

I'd gladly accept cool .
I don't have AIM though but MSN sweatdrop .

...now, for my 2 cents...

Wavedashing, as a technique, is said to be a cornerstone of any decent smasher... However, I've fought many people with and without using it, and I really can't tell the difference in scores. Honestly, if you're good enough to wavedash effectivly, shouldn't that be the sign that you don't need it?

and I'm just going to ignore everyone in here that is arrogant and retarted, and basicly is doing exactly what the statement I put in huge bold letters said. really, your input is invalid, pointless, and retarted, you are better off just turning around and leaving if you haven't been to smashboards.

yeah, if you want to just for fun, learn luigi. his wavedash is so much fun, his mind games are everywhere. I dont blame you for not finding a use, I was the same way till I started using luigi. I just couldnt find a use with shiek, hers is so short and I never really played anyone good, so using it was pointless. then I started using luigi, and I understood the true importance of wavedashing.

oh, and if you have SSBM version 0-00, you can play it online as well. I haven't gotten to try it out yet, but here's the site on how to set it up if you want.
http://boards.ign.com/super_smash_bros_/b5213/105988131/p1/?32

I might get to try it tonight at my friends house, at least I hope I do.

well, I played roy online and at least 2 stocked him every match, I went hard on him at first for the first 2 lives (he had 20% after I had killed him twice, dead serious) and then after that I just kinda slacked off and tried to see how many times in a row i could go from pika's fair to the throw, the most I got was 5. and for some reason he still thinks that he is good and z canceling and shield grab made no difference (cant shffl w/ keyboard, so yeah)

some noobs just never learn I suppose.

This was a match on the first smash? I think anyone could own me in that game, honestly... Maybe not. I haven't played it since ssbm came out... Maybe I'm better at it now, I've won some dallas torneys on melee... who knows... How exactly did you play online?

Didn't you forgot to mention that it was my first time playing it on the pc?
And that I had to use a keyboard since I don't have a controller of sorts wink .
I don't know if you noticed, but I didn't manege often to use my 3rd jump, why is that you think heh? neutral .
That you beat me is a fact, I'm not going to lie about it, I have no reason to do that, but you're gloating over the fact that you beaten someone who played it for the first time with not great working controlles.
But don't worry, I'll practice some more and I'll see if I can get a controller of sorts cool .

first off, keyboard is broken, it is sooo much better than a controler. you can DI perfectly, letting you survive a lot longer. you can do everything perfectly also because you dont have to move one finger around. not to mention, I told you to only play me when you felt comfortable with the keyboard, so no excuses. not to mention, not doing up b to get back would have made little difference seeing as I was pikachu and went out to where you would have gone, but you never did up b so I never got to intecept you, so either way you would have died. so any way you put it the matches would have still been about the same, I'd have still won.

and like I said, I kinda stopped trying after I pwned you the first 2 lives. I killed you the first life within 10 seconds...after that I was just trying to get down shffl with my controler. it is hard with mine because if you press it for very long at all it will just do a normal jump.

not to mention when I played you I was still using the keyboard...

@Idfection - tis illegal to discuss on gaia. I'll tell you on AIM. aim s/n - felix45

I have the controler now, but then I didn't. is it really that hard to understand?

and I think I like keyboard better anyways. unless I can get that thing to get my 64 controler on the PC or something like it, I think I'm using keyboard from now on.

Trying to convert the masses eh Felix?

Ask the mods to sticky this then.

EDIT: Change the name to something like "SSBM Discussion for elitists only"

First off, wave dashing is not a key component in victory. This is something to lean upon, should you be unable to take a player out. Felix, what's the deal man? You're bashing people and behaving like the arrogant retard you were so complaining about. Everyone, please stop using the term NOOB. We were all there once upon a time, so shut the hell up! You cannot guarantee that you'll win against someone on a forum. That's just idiotic. I'll play ya, on the console that is. I'm not going to break the law just to prove a point. I'm certainly not going to waste all that time downloading when I have the game right next to me. You wanna prove your stuff? Meet me at a regional tourny or something. No cheap gimmicks like emulators that rip money out of nintendo's pockets. I respect the company more than that. I will say that knowing a term doesn't matter at all. If someone can smash your a**, they can smash your a**. If they can't, they can't. It's a video GAME. Not a damn educational sermon. The term "Elitists" also is a bad one. You're just putting yourself above all the other people without playing them? Come on, what the hell is that all about? Nazis of SSB, that's what I call all of you "Elitists". Arrogant bastards indeed. Now I find myself asking why I wasted my time on people who show an excellent example of the HUMAN CONDITION. You don't get the big picture, you never will. Go ahead, release your angry comments to me, they really don't matter. Those who understand my viewpoint and lay praise upon this post, I salute you! You are people who understand and are not stubborn. Good job! Later people, nice talking to ya.

I have nothing really to argue that, an opinion is an opinion, the only thing I can say about your arguement is that you are very quick to assume ALOT about people's motives.

I'll admit that 'Elitist' may be too much of a word to use, Felix created this thread for intelligent discussion of the game, and in fact, he did probably mean for the thread to be open to anyone willing to discuss it with an open mind.

But I wonder what kind of reception your arguement would meet at smashboards.com if you argued that there are backroom areas that only the smash elite are allowed to enter?

I mean, if a football coach wanted to talk tactics with someone, they aren't going to talk to some guy on the street about it, even if they love football.

And a guy like SephirothKen isn't going to sit there and talk with just anyone on smashboards.com, in fact, I only remember him posting in a thread about FC3.

Your arguement is valid though, and I applaud the fact that you have a strong opinion about what the mainstream want, it depends on how serious you are about the game, it is just a videogame, but then it's a game that earns Ken something like $100,000 a year (apparently) and it's a game that many people obviously take very seriously. (It's why I co-founded my SSBM guild)

Perhaps we should start a thread dedicated to those who would like to pursue a greater understanding of the game, and would like a kickstart into the tourney scene?

I think that's what I meant, changing the name of the thread to something that would stand out and attract people to start getting serious about SSBM in a "I love the game, but would like to get better" sense is what I primarily meant.

Lastly to move along...wavedashing.

Wavedashing is just another technique, a technique like shffl'ing, or teching.

It's not going to give you a major advantage, but it is necessary, especially when coupled with dash dancing and foxtrotting if you've ever watched Ken's matches.

Once you mastered all these abilities and skills, it all comes down to mindgames.

I'm calm now. I apologize for the heated outburst. Gabriel, I respect what you wrote. That is how a discussion should be. Calmly laying out the information, not antogonizing anyone in anyway. That's all I ask, to be civil. Of course my outburst wasn't very civil, but I apologized. Let's get back to talking about SSB/M shall we?

I like to think I have mastered Link. Well, except one technique. Anyone help me with the timing of his very difficult bomb jumping?
