The hardest song I had to play was actually an entire musical, minus a few easy songs, which was WEST SIDE STORY for our musical this year...
OMG that's a really difficult score... sweatdrop

We had this crazy arrangement of The Simpsons theme song...yeah I'm a piccolo--it was filled with nothing but insane runs in weird keys, the key signature changing about every two bars. And plus, it was done Michigan Marching Band style--everything had to be played completely perfect and memorized. It was damned hard, if I do say so myself.

^_^[videl-chan]^_^ We played a song called Symphonic Dance No.3. It was one of the BEST songs I ever played. But it was also the hardest song I've ever played. AH, I LOVE SYMPHONIC DANCE! We played it for festival this year. ^^

loony_lovegood407 Last year, when i was in Symphonic band, we played two songs that were above our level-Vesuvius (has like 10 different time signitures and other crazy stuff) and Candide Suite (5 different songs and several key signitures-one of them was 2 or 3 sharps, another had several flats, but it was awesome) This year we are playing this really technical song called american faces, it goes really fast. A cresent still abides looks easy, but it is so slow that it makes it the most difficult of the song. Our marching show this year was really hard, especially our closer it had hard drill going at 190 on Dr. Beat. AHHHHHHH, but i got good calf muscles from it blaugh YES! VESUVIUS! LOVE that song! Also, Divertimento for Winds and perussion by Cichy. that one changes time signature every other measure. it's gotta be the most challenging piece i've ever played. also the mostfun. and Candide suite i've heard... and i'd LOVE to play it. i Played Overture to Candide, which uses several of the themes from candide suite. Another song that's amazingly hard is Heroes lost and fallen by David Gillingham. dear god i dont know how our percussion section pulled that off. everythings either off beat, little blips in the middle of a bazillion of rests, or insanely fast runs, it was nearly impossible for me as an oboist to keep up. but it was the audience's favorite piece that we did this year. Also, previously mentioned was Armenian Dances, which has some awesome solos for the sax and oboe and clarinet and other instruments, and goes through 5 different sections, the most awesome one being the last one. if you're going to go find any of the songs i just said, i'd say Armenian dances, because that has to have been like, my favorite piece we ever played in Wind Ensemble. We played it for months and months practicing for festival and almost noone ever got sick of it. Another mentioned was Southern Harmony, which is amazingly hard. i love the clapping movement x3

I think it's called Variations on Korean folk songs or something like that. OMFG NUTS! Then there was one song we played that had a trombone feature and we had a Dr. in our state come in to play it . . . I was like . . . wtf is going ON!

The hardest song I've played so far (I still have 4 years to go!) is probably American Folk Rhapsody #3. It's EVIL! Although, that might just be because this was my first year as an oboist and it wouldn't play an E natural...

Well I guess I've never played one of those legendarilly hard songs, but I've played a few songs that were pretty tough. Red Cape Tango was difficult, but when you get right down to it, all it is a bunch of chromatic runs... La Fortza was also very hard. We played it my freshman year and I never quite got it down. The hardest song we played this year was either Psalm for Band or Ride. (In my opinion Psalm for Band was just stupid... stare ) But hey! There's allways that damned Esprite Decorp. I hope I never see that piece of music again. Same goes for Mercury. I hear it in my nightmares!!

Its ridiculous in the bassoon part at the vivace. Its like 200 in cut time 32 note runs on Gb and Ab (not easy on a bassoon especially if its broken) Some of the hardest music I've played is in my schools showcase band. 7sharps and wierd runs. But its mostly hard cuz the singers need to learn how to count and stop comin in 3 measures early or askin us if we can freakin take it down a few half steps.

I feel sorry for any clarinets that have to play Mercury. The flute part wasn't bad.

Scheissenkopf Has anyone heard of harrisons dream? Like only a couple highschool bands have ever played it and a scarse amount of college bands have played it. We played it 2 years ago and it was freaking awsome. It freaking got up to quarternote=192. Now they have been realeaseing watered down versions and ive even seen it in a marching show. Never as good as the original. We aslo played a kinda bit challengeing peice last year called fantasy variations. But now we are playing toccata and fugue, polka and fugue and some other stuff for a gaint organ concert and its friggen hard. For my wind ensemble's fall concert, we played a song that was 298 BPM. And us flutes had lots of 16th notes. But that's not the hardest band song i've played. The hardest would have to be In Wartime. Barely any college bands even attempt it. And the review in the newspaper said we played it "amazingly well".

Americans We. It's a crazy arrangement with, like,Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever and stuff like that. The euphonium part was horribly difficult.(It was the same as flutes and clarinets which was odd.)
