Silly Announcers. Go learn to read. ;D

So... I had to announce for some band event my school was hosting. Pronounced Wallace (Wall-iss) as (Wah-lah-chay), because someone was rushing me, and I'm mezzican like that. xDD
They pronounce my BD's name as LuhCoff, instead of LAY-Coff.
And my Freshman DMs were Ardienne Dealca (R D N) and Mona Liza. Those were interesting to hear. o . o

Let's go chronologically!

Freshman year: Drum majors were Jessica Denko and Joe Menickelly (Men-eh-kelly).
How they butchered them: Jessica Dinko; Joseph 'Men...i...ckly? Menuh...ckly?'

Sophomore year: Drum majors were Joe Menickelly and Mari Lubag.
How they butchered Mari (since Joe's never changed): Marilyn 'Lupag', 'Mary-lin Lu-bahg', etc.

Junior year: Drum majors were Mari Lubag and Katie Fabian.
How they butchered Katie: 'Kate Fagen', 'Katie Faban', etc.

Miscellaneous:

Band director: Mr. Hartmetz.
How they butcher it: 'Hartsmetz', 'Harsmetz', 'Harmetz', etc.

Name of Band: Dominion High School Marching Titans
Butchering: Dominion Falls Marching Titans
...they fused us with our rivals, Potomac Falls, who were not even AT that competition.

And now, for an awesome story.

Freshman year at a competition, the announcers had caregrams. You know, the things where you buy one for $5 and the announcer reads it over the loudspeaker?
Some band thought up a message and had them read it.

"And now we have one from *name of whatever school's band*. It reads...'Never...going to give you up, never going to let you down? Never going to...run around and hurt you?' Ooookay, *band*, I'll assume that means something?"
It was fantastic; only someone who has no idea could have read it so tunelessly and confused xD.
And in retaliation to being Rick Rolled, another band sent back a meme.
"This one reads: 'To the band that Rick Rolled us: All your base are belong to us'?"
And then my band did something with the Hillshire Farm 'Go Meat' tune...it was ridiculous.

they always pronounced our drum leaders name wrong it Wiltbank with an L they pronounced it Witbank w/o the L every single time except for our last competition she always made faces of disappointment before she turned around so we always made fun of her haha when we were at Disney world (band went as a trip) me, her and 3 others ended up at this virtual reality game thing where one of the people had to be captain we made her captain and kept yelly "Captain Witbank turn left"

Well, our assistant band director has a strange last name. McElwee (Pronounced Mac-a-wee) So it's always pronounced mc-el-wee.
Last year at a competition, they misprounced Theresa (like mother theresa) There-a-sa. She was a drum major and we were all giggling so hard, well as hard as you can without losing it completely.

Just a couple weeks ago we had an away game and the other band's uniform looked almost exactly like ours - same colors, similar design, the whole deal. So we were marching on to the field for the halftime show and the announcer started introducing the other band...!

All last year, announcers kept calling our third movement Gifts of the Earth instead of Birth. I'll give them that the original show did have a Gifts of the Earth movement...but our director changed it before the previous school year ended because he thought it was boring. Not sure why he would write Gifts on the contest entry forms if that's what happened.

At our Band Fest, it was still announced Gifts of the Earth, but the televised version (and presumably the DVD) labeled it Birth, so...go figure.

On a completely unrelated note, last Saturday, the announcer at our contest pronounced one of the schools wrong. For whatever reason, they got it right in Prelims, but switched some letters around for Finals. The official schedule had it spelled wrong too, but not the way the dude pronounced it at finals.

Lol to all of this rofl . Well, I can't really say that the announcer's pronounce our name funny in any way. Maybe a weird emphasis on a part of our assistant band director's name every now and then, but that's about it. I mean, who can mispronounce Nelson, McCandless, and Highlanders? That, and no one can mistake our band for another one. We are the only one that wears kilts xp .

Our newest issues with announcers:

Our drum majors as usual. We have: Sam Roush(row-shh) and Erik Huber(hugh-bur)
Samehow, Sam was pronoucned Same Roose(like loose), but Erik was said Ereek huber. His last name was correct.

they couldn't mispornounce oru director's name. cathy harris. Who cant pronounce that?

But when we first got to the festival, the host band kept calling us a different band! Yeah, our schools are...well..slightly close, and its ur creepy twin school that seriously looks liek an exact copy of ours, but we have different school colors and so their uniform is compeltely different then ours. First off, ours are black with a gold lightning bolt with green on the other side andgold buttons straight down like a shash. Theirs are black with like a purple chestplate kinda thing. Luckily, they got us right while marchign on field, but as we came up to the waiting to enter point, theodler ladyt here asked our student hsots from the host school if we were this other band.
funy thing is: that band was exiting the field by the time we ate lunch and came bakc to watc other bandsXD
