im only a seventh grader and EVERYONE expects the most outta me.....im so pressured...last year in 6th grade, evryone expected me to be perfect, attend everything that happened, help them..i was so pressured and the music was so easy and people were always telling that i shouldnt of been in that band and made me feel horrible. The band directors told me to help the rest of the flutes cuz i already knew the music....and when i went to symphonic in 7th, everyone told me i should of been in the high school and that they didnt think i was fit for the lower class band.......now im going to competition and the directors are telling me to get everything perfect and that they know i can make the songs and scales PERFECT and im so stressed and my family expects me to win that comp. fair and square.....now, next year im playing in the high school band and the directors are telling me that its gonna be SUPER EASY FOR ME!! i cant believe them!!!!1im only a 12 year old and theyre expecing to juggle church, track, yearbook, drama, band, homework, family and friends!!!!omfg!!im so pissed off i cant believe it!!!i know how u guys feel!!!!

dark_goddess_1551- the same for me gonk except I'm nnot the only seventh grader--I'm in seventh grade band with musicians all around me that don't play like seventh graders, we play more like high schoolers individually eek anyways, last year, I was the only girl who played first clarinet, I was a beginner no less, and so I was pressured alot because my co conductor loved to pick on me o_O; so I had to practice my head off, but I beat even the first chair in my class, this year I'm pressured by making mistakes and everything, when I got into symphonic band and people worse than me got into wind ensemble it was pure embarrassment, and my conductor believes I practice everyday (which I don't, I never practiced the concert band songs that we played for the winter concert, and nit sounded like i practiced them o_O!!)
I was especially pressured during all state and all southern try outs, because the whole class would be watching us practice when our conductor made those who were trying out practice, my scales were almost perfect but the fact that people were watching me during practice made me have to restart twice, it's really annoying.
But hey, I finally realize that taking the risk for greatness is worth being pressured, so if you're one of the best or the best, you took the risk to become great, so you can't back down now can you? biggrin

I've been the best flute player in the upper band since my sophomore year. Which is hilarious, because my freshman year I was in the lower band and virtually unknown. We don't do seating tests or whatever, so as a freshman I was pretty much lost in our big flute section. But I moved to the upper band as a sophomore and all of a sudden, I was getting all the solos and everything (over another sophomore and two juniors). Even after getting so fed up with the flute section last year that I switched to tenor for a few months, I'm still section leader (or what counts for section leader at my school, anyway). My BD is giving me the flute part for the musical, and whenever a flute is needed for anything, she automatically picks me.

Sadly I'm the only person who plays clarinet in the orchestra. All the others aren't devoted to come along to rehersals so I'm all alone sad

First chair in our top band and the best player out of the whole band... Which is really sad, cause there's like 200 of us. I guess it'd just be pathetic if I was the only player who was good, but at least it's not like that....
My director expects so much out of me because last year I just came out of nowhere. I started trying out for all these honor bands and came out with either 1st or 2nd chair in the top bands, and then this year, I was the first person from my school in band to ever make the MSU Honors Wind Symphony, and hopefully I'll be making Lion's Band as well...

im no where near the best but the first chair at our school was better than the seniors when he was in middle school , and we have the top band in the state.... i think he is some kind of musical prodigy.

I'm first chair in my section and I hate all of the attention. People are always like 'oh you are so good' and it drives me crazy. I know that there are a lot of other people in my section that are just as good as I am. I feel so much pressure because my director and my parents want me to try out for all of these honor bands and I don't have time. On Monday I have all-city honor band, Then next week I have the UNO honor band thing whoich I really need to to practice the music for cuz it is college level music and then in three weeks I have our school's concert and I have three solos and a duet. I'm so stressed as it is and they want me to do more.

I can't stand being first clarinet. This is only my first year of actually playing clarinet (I didn't play anything or learn great in elementary school) Last year for grade 9 I joined the band half way through the year, so February, and this school year I was the most experienced to go on first. Scary, I know. I'm in grade 10 and their is no one older then me or more experienced to play on first. My bd tells me I'm good and I don't realize how good I am, but I just can't stand it and it makes me feel like I should be better. I also have to lead the rest of my section (I'm also sectional leader). Its just to much pressure stressed
