Actually whether it's real or not is relevant. She's talking about the same tattoo for the rest of her life with her clothes not something that can be wiped off merely after a show. You can always change the tattoo you have for a show to meet you needs for an outfit but you really can't do that in real life.

Also it's very easy to not know a band depending on your taste. Just because I like lolita doesn't mean I search for bands that showcase the style, I am more of Dir en Grey or Lynch type of person.

Well, under lolita clothes you don't see tattoos anyways as long as you wear long sleeved ones.

Well the point of the discussion is whether they should be hidden or not. Also they don't have to be hidden under long sleeves. I have one on the lower portion of my left hand that always shows when I wear ops, cutsews, and jsks. I have seen other Lolitas with full sleeves of tattoos that also display them.

I looove Lynch. Good choice

I love their style, I use to love Renter en Soi when they had Satsuki but so sad he left. For some reason most of the bands I like have at least one member with Dir en Grey's Japanese Zombie Heroez tattoo that Kaoru has to commerate Kyo's (I'm a fan girl, so do I xD)

Hm, I thought I posted here. Might have been another thread.
Understand all I have to offer on the subject is my opinion. Alot of it would have to do with where the tattoo was placed and what it was a tattoo of. While a tattoo in the small of your back would never show in lolita clothing, the association with the phrase "tramp stamp" might be something you wish to avoid. Or you may not care.
Conversely, a simple design on your solar plexis (which I understand is one of the most painful places to be tattooed) could be very elegant. But a few inches lower and it would be drawing too much attention to the breasts.
I do think that something with a elegant and slightly classical motif, like a fleur-de-lis or a stylized crown ♔, appropriately placed, might work quite well with lolita. It's really gets down to a question of can the person who's doing it pull it off.

Personally, I've never been a big fan of colorful, delicately shaded tattoos. The most attractive ones I've ever seen were simple, solid black designs. I'm fairly sure that they would work just as well in any solid color, but many of the more popular designs seem less elegant.

I completely agree with you about simple black tattoo's, I like them better. But I still like the visual treat of seeing a realistic portait or a pin-up girl XD

Just like it was most likely mentioned in the piercing thread, the life choices you make should not be influenced by what you wear. If you love tattoos and wish to get one do no let something like Lolita impede that. I personally have several tattoos and am working on my upper left arms half sleeve which I love displaying with Lolita. My favorite lolita of all time is Octavekitten who makes tattoos look so amazing with Lolita. Here is the Daily Lolita archive of her great photos http://community.livejournal.com/daily_lolita/tag/octavekitten

Wow, I checked her out, they're beautiful!

WARNING: STRONG OPINION BELOW!

Whoa whoa whoa. Lolita is a clothing fashion, right? Bell and a-line skirts, modesty, victorian influenced. Is this sounding familiar?

Any lolita guide I've ever seen that was worth reading talked about prints, fabrics, cuts, hairstyles, and shoes. They never mentioned being this color, this size, shape, or complexion, having this hair color, or a lack of piercings and tattoos.

Even if tattoos are a complete no-no for it to be lolita, who cares? You picked lolita because you like how it looks and feels, right? Well then get a tattoo if you like how it looks and feels!

Even if it's "not lolita", what is so wrong with mixing styles? I don't understand you. My mainstream fashion friends don't snub me for wearing a few lolita items with my jeans. Why should lolitas snub me for a full back piece? I understand following the rules for an event or panel, but for everything else, people bend fashion rules in all sorts of styles all around the world. It's called being individuals.

My lolita friends accept me for my artistic style. If they don't accept it, they aren't accepting a part of me. You could be a by-the-books lolita and still look bad! Or you could bend all the rules and look great! Because art isn't about rules, it's about beauty. Will your tattoo make you look and feel more beautiful? Edgy? Unique? Does it represent you?

I thought lolita forums were to join up and befriend others who like the same styles that you do, to learn from them, meet them, share pics and find out where they get their stuff from! But I've been reading them and all I see is, "that's not lolita, blah blah blah, hate hate hate."

Lolita are a MINORITY!! You did not pick lolita to fit in, trust me. So the last thing you should worry about is fitting in with lolita!
There are more important things to worry about. Can you keep your career with it? Can you afford it? Will you regret it later in life? You might ditch lolita in five years. That tattoo lasts until you die or laser it off.

Please choose things because you like them, and forget everyone else! You deserve that choice!

BTW, that was directed towards the idea that if you don't toe the lolita line, you'll get internet-bashed, and not towards any person here! Sorry if it came off rant-y. -__-; You ladies have been quite sweet! (which is why I actually joined this forum. there is far less "hate hate hate" here) It just hurts because I see a lot of girls questioning whether or not to do something they like for the sake of fitting in with strangers online and it gets me all fluffy. >: /

I was slightly worried when I read the warning at the beginning
but that was a very beautiful and fluent statement and I couldn't possibly agree any more!

In my case, I go a little wild with makeup.
I'm always reading that lolita makeup should be light and natural-looking, but...
Shimmery pink eyeshadow with brilliant purple eyeliner, and a dusting of glitter on the cheeks? God yes.

Personally I dislike most tattoos and find it disgracing your body to get one.
Though also a part of me actually likes them, that and Branding. (heh...)
I think if done right, a lolita themed tattoo would be wonderful. Also somewhere not tacky, and in a little hidden place. Like a dirty little secret under the lace and frills. Under the Innocence.

Lol, I like the idea of a hidden one.

Some people i know with ink will say that it's not something to hide and speaks to who they are. But I think that your personality should speak to who you are and you don't need a tattoo to do it, therefore it's okay if you want to be more discreet with it.

For some, tattoos are like lingerie. It's for you and those close or personal to you, not something you want to share with the world. None of mine will be visible when clothes are on. I work in office settings, it's easier to be taken seriously when you don't look like a hells angel.

I like tattoos with lolita, but not if it's something ridiculous.
If they are artistically done, then fine.
Fashion is a form of art, as is tattooing.

science fiction is real

Well, in Japan you won't really find people with tattoos since they are still forbidden at many places because in the past only people from the japanese mafia (yakuza) did wear them. As example you can't go in any onsen when you have a tattoo, it is forbidden.

But almost all places will make an exception for foreigners.

I know! I noticed that as well. However, there are also some really interesting posts as well. I just ignore the rant type posts that I don't want to read and concentrate on the cute and/or helpful posts. This is one of those cute stories! I have met some really interesting lolitas on EGL. I'm also guilty of reading the wank communities...

I don't know if this is the tattoo thread to which I posted earlier, but I think that a person should do what he or she loves. If tattoos are your thing, do it. I've never had a problem with people with tattoos wearing lolita.
