Well, that would mean he would still be alive, and the manga wouldn't have played out completely. So, before all that happened, he'd know exactly how Light was killing people, how he was going to be killed, and would be armed with all the information to stop Kira.
Basically, Light's fate would be sealed.
What if L managed to read what people write about him? (Including all fanfics that people have put on the internet... ALL of them.)

What if L had to fight off a horde of zombies? (I have been watching way too many zombie movies lately)
