Shram its no more hypocritical then the government, and we have an understanding that if we take everything away then we are living in a rule governed state where we can't do anything without permission and no threats would exist. a little bit of danger is good for buisness, this includes the mourge and hospitals.
It's a dress-up-doll forum where you talk to others in different topic areas.
While, yes, sure whatever -- your reasoning can be correct in a way. That isn't the way you should be thinking for Gaia. Gaia does not encompass the world, it is the Internet and it is no where near the government. Even if our government governs it, comparing the two is something that just should't be done. Yes government is hypocritical, yes the every day man is hypocritical, yes gaia is hypocritical. Yet there's no reason why you can't speak up against the hypocrisy, yet -- like government, every day man, and gaia -- it'll probably go on deaf ears.
It's an Internet site.
It shouldn't be going all haywire, deleting pixelated 'tobacco' items.

their contest are always North America based, they are bound by North American laws, especially now that internet laws are being harshly made and enforced.
the internet is not as free as people would have us believe.
however as for if there was no government control, people learn through life and see's what the rest of the world does. if you want mostly good reviews and popularity you need to follow the trends.

Anyway.

Yes, health is a trend. Apparently freedom / choice as stated in the Bill of Rights and Constitution that we're supposedly founded upon is lacking and starting to become a trend as well. I'm all for getting away from smokers, I'm highly allergic to smoke and think that 2nd hand can hurt you, but taking the freedom to smoke away isn't correct. Here, where I live, we have a smoking ban on businesses -- which really hurt their business. While it's nicer to sit down and have a meal without popping out my inhaler, I didn't particularly mind it and if I did I went to the nonsmoker section [ parents are smokers ]. While the smoke smell might travel that way, well then... don't go out to eat, that's a freedom as well. Thing is you have a choice to go or not, you have a choice to complain or not, you have a choice to deal with it or not. Yet we're just up and taking freedoms and choices away from certain people because of health concerns.
Yes, while it might indirectly hurt someone else -- and that's not particularly a good thing -- you can avoid being around smokers and never starting up to the best of your ability. There's going to be tons of toxins in every day air that you cannot avoid that can harm you as well.

Anyway, it doesn't matter.
It just infuriates me that Gaia went about it the way they did.

2nd: I think banning the items is a waste of time. They should've worked on evolving items because i'm tired of having the same items evolve or just one. The journal has not evolved in over two months. stare

Bearing in mind I'm a staunch non-smoker, my first (and, truth be told, continuing) reaction was: "Say WHA...?" Seriously. I can understand the health risks for REAL cigarettes and other tobacco products. But... as has been pointed out, these are PIXELS. Other than cancers from sitting in front of my monitor whilst playing on the 'net (kidding), these aren't going to hurt me in any way. And it's kinda fun to role-play from time to time. It's like when they go back into old movies and old photographs of celebrities and erase the cigarettes they had then. Ridiculous.
As a side note, in the graphic novel Watchmen, Silk Spectre II is poking through Nite-Owl's airship looking for a cigarette lighter (bearing in mind that it takes place in 1985, when smoking was still a lot more prevalent). She accidentally sets off the craft's flame-thrower while it's sitting in the subterranean garage. All cigarettes and smoking (and there were actually a LOT of cigarettes and smoking in the novel) were expunged from that universe when they made the recent movie. How did this scene play out now? She's randomly pushing buttons in the airship, including one with flame on it. IT MAKES NO SENSE. rolleyes
As I said, I'm staunchly anti-smoking, but SERIOUSLY. talk2hand

Koneko Midoria I understand the reasoning: Promote good health.
Yet this isn't even illegal and it's a choice.
What I don't understand is, why doesn't Gaia just start erasing every thing they ever made?
Seriously, how about I go into everything else that they've created that promotes something 'negative'.

These are pixels, if a kid is going to start smoking because they got a long drag, cig, or even a pipe on Gaia, those kids need therapy or something.
Also, they shouldn't just out right delete the items either, they should have given people a chance to get them if someone wanted one.
Sure that might be going against what Gaia wants, but they wouldn't be on after that nor be able to be traded/sold to someone else.
I might not particularly like this item, but I'm equipping the one I have anyway.

Yet Gaia's fine promoting. . .
- Drinking
- Killing / Gore / Murder
- Sleazy Outfits / Sluts / Pimps / etc.
- Whatever else people can think of. What's to discuss? Miss Koneko here has it all wrapped up for me. xd Seriously... this is ridiculous. It's not even that it's so wrong and against freedom of blah blah whatever. It's just... pointless really...

Eh, I lol'd. Lets just file this in with stupid decisions they're made in the past. Another one that's biting them in the a**, Evolving items.
Well I get to keep my tear gas grenade so I can't complain. I'd rather a defense for my real lungs though. Everybody in this town smokes. EVERYBODY. I don't. I know the effects. My dad has been smoking for 25 years (My entire life span basically), I can FEEL his coughs THROUGH THE FLOOR TWO ROOMS OVER! I know what to avoid. When some pre-teen neighbor kid asks me if I have any smokes on me, THERE'S A PROBLEM!
Totally unrelated to gaia. That kid skate boards all the time. He's probably oblivious to the existence of this site. Probably better off for it. lol

Ironically, when I got the text alert about this announcement, I was smoking a cigarette.
Anyway, I think it's stupid too. The first thing that I thought was "Oh s**t, those cigs are gonna be a profit, must buy a lot of them!" But now I see their soulbound, so blegh. It's stupid, but what are we gonna do?
I expect the alcohol items to be gone next.

That's what you get for being an adult on a site aimed at "I cannot think for myself and need virtual role models, not parents, to teach me whats right and wrong!" teens. razz
I get you though, it's silly, and I and smoking don't mix at all.
(I do think cigs can add to sex appeal though, or at least coolness.)
