*clings to aretoo* I'm not alone! I put a bit of cinnamon into homemade chili or gumbo too! I also add a one-ounce square of really bittersweet chocolate as well. :3
Bacon worked quite well as a substitute (I've made the gumbo already so I have meals for the rest of the week) and, though slightly blasphemous, I utilised a pack of frankfurters I had in the fridge too.
What are some other good things to put in gumbo, chili, and other flavourful spicy food in sausage's stead?

Shrimp or chicken, of course, is always marvelous to put into gumbo... mrgreen

I know where you can get blueberry sausage, if you are ever feeling adventurous.
Granted, it looks diseased, but they sell it in the supermarket so it's got to edible, right?
As for alternatives to sausage...well, I can really think of nothing better. I suppose a good steak might suffice, if done just right.
