I really dislike gender bending. My friend and I were talking about it not too long ago.
She especially hates it because it pops up a lot in one of her favourite pairings. Least to say we can find it quite annoying.
I did read a fanfic where one of the characters changed gender. But it was a temporary thing, so somehow that didn't bother me. I guess because the character himself didn't change and run around in a skirt and do... other girly things. I dunno, I guess it was a pretty good fic. Possible one of the longest fictions I've read that I actually held an interest to until the end.

A lot of the time i call cop out but in a few cases the gender bending was done well so it actually was a good story.

I tend to call cop out because the people who write a lot of these genderbending stories, tend to have all hetero stories.
It's like they're ashamed to actually like a yaoi/yuri couple. So I don't read them at all(I know...terrible of me, but when a person actually says they don't like yaoi/yuri....and then they write this story?).
But that's just my two-cents. x:

If it's written well, it's hot as hell.
The best is when both characters are gender bent.

when you sometimes read Naruto fanfiction and they turn Naruto into a girl or he was a girl but got changed into a boy to avoid some s*xual abuse some of them are good but i find that a lot of them aren't

I think for me, if there's genderbending, it has to be both characters in the pairing, otherwise it does seem like a cop-out. I like the AUs where everyone is the opposite gender... I find them fascinating.

Granted I like traditional yaoi but I think its more of the point they're trying to make in that situation (Anime, manga, etc.) Mostly though I'm not bothered with it.

The Cake Delicious says: I generally don't like people messing with something I like as is. But I'm not subject to change easily.
If it's supposed to be a girl, leave her a girl. If it's supposed to be a guy, leave him a guy.
But some artists can pull it off really well, so I never know.

Don't like 'em. Came across one series that was labled as a "gender bender" the dude had flippin breasts....-______-; I'm fine with the whole crossdresser/looking like a girl kind of thing but I still want to look at two dudes not a guy and a sheman.....>.>;;;

I like gender bending in stories (most of the time). Sometimes, the story can be stupid though.
