I have a friend who mentioned one book. She said it had an okay plot but the ending was horrible. It was The Giver.

Agreed. There are 2 sequels of sorts but they takes place years later and the old main characters weren't that involved. If I pick up a book I don't like, I just stop reading and forget about. Nothing that memorable.

The first time I read The Giver, I hated it. I'm not sure if I even finished it. (But I was in 2nd grade at the time, so...) I tried it again a couple of years later, and was okay with it, but wouldn't reccomend it to anyone. I read it again last year and loved it- perhaps not for the story, but for the writing style. I think that's what gets people, because I haven't read much else with a style like that. It might be harder to read or something. My mom said it creeped her out, so that could be it. I have to read it again for English next year, and I wonder how that will turn out... It's not something I'd give to just anyone. I enjoy being creeped out. I'm apperently part of a small minority.

The only time I "read" The Giver was in fourth grade and my teacher read it aloud to the class. I rather liked it, myself. Perhaps it's easier to read when read aloud?

The Great Gatsby. I know its supposidly a classic, but i hated it. xp I never connected with any of the characters. The only person I liked was the narrator. Therefor, I didn't care what happened to the characters and hated having to keep reading about them. My favorite part of the book was the end...because it was over. smile (oh and sorry for my horrid spelling, its a jillion o' clock where i am)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by: JK Rowling... she didn't even give my two favorite characters a death scene and their son spent the epilogue making out on the Hogwarts train... >< I get really attached to characters.

I was upset when Remus and Tonks died also. I didn't think the book was that bad though haha. I think you will get along greatly with Min, the guild captain, though. She adores Remus to the full extent also biggrin . Haha

Yeah, I get REALLY emotional attached... if they would have atleast got an epic death scene I would've been more content *shrugs* good for her (I'm a marauders fan in general... I'm closer to Sirius XD).

Great Expectations
I know it's a classic blah blah but seriously, I wanted to commit suicide after I read it in lit class. I can't believe Dickens survived writing it. So.. depressing!! Poor Pip!

Yes yes, I know breakthrough writing for his time period, have to understand the poverty and social imperfections of the time blah blah blah, yeah we covered that, it's still the most DEPRESSING thing I have ever laid eyes on and I'll never be able to appreciate it for anything more then a very cheap instant cure for a good mood.

W-what?! eek I LOVE Great Expectations! I loved it so much that I tried a few of Dickens' other books, like A Tale of Two Cities, and I thought that was boring, but not Great Expectations. The ending was depressing, yeah, but Pip and Estella both deserved it for being such selfish prats.

Gotta agree about The Great Gatsby. *shudders* burning_eyes

You know, Remus doesn't even feel dead to me because I didn't see it happen. I didn't cry at all when Harry just happened o see his corpse bcause all I could think was, 'WTF?' I still wouldn't classify Deathly Hallows as a terrible book, though, because the hallows themselves were fascinaing, and Snape's loyalty was FINALLY revealed! exclaim Do you that NONE of my friends believed me believed me when I said he and Dumbledore had planned his death in advance? I got lots of apologies the week it was released. biggrin

Yeah, well, I had already predicted that Wormtail and Moony would fall, and in that order, but that way... gonk ...the way she wrote it was what shocked me. Not even a death scene for one of my favorite characters, a half-hearted redemption scene that wasn't even a redemption in my eyes (Wormtail died too quickly for him to even redeem himself a little (plus redemption to me means the main character finally understands the motives involved)) for another of my favorite characters... But yeah. sad Even with the shock, I agree with Min, Remus doesn't feel dead. I cried more over Dobby. cry

Marauders? I'm a fan too. Ooh! Ooh! Suze mentioned Never Forget! Does that mean I can shamelessly plug that guild too? ninja I mean, our Elven Goddess, Min, is playing Remus, surely she'll allow a little plug here and there from me too, right? rolleyes But really, if you love the Marauders, we have one of the best lineups. 3nodding And we still need some pretty major characters, so come and join us! biggrin (I'm playing Peter, by the way, and Lily.) whee

I agree. Remus is not dead at all to me. I was upset she killed him though. I thought it was interesting though how every main player from the marauder generation died by the end of the series. It upset me, but I thought it was quite marvelous how it really showed that their era was truly over.

Hehe, promoting the RP much? Hehe. Well I play James, McGonagall and an OC. wink Just wanted to add that. >.<

Never Forget is lots of fun. smile Anyone who heart 's RPing and the Marauders' Era characters should come play!

You know what books I hate? Poorly translated ones. There are various translations of the most popular foreign classics, and if someone gets a boring translation, then they might decide that they don't like the book when that normally would not be the case.

I have two books I absolutely refuse ever to try to read again: The Picture of Dorian Grey and Anna Karenina. Yes, they're both classics. Lovely. Good for them.

I thought surely TPODG would be made of awesome, it's about something so creepy and bizarre and very Poe-like. And I sat my butt down and diligently started reading, and roughly halfway through the book I was like, "Okay, we can stop with the boring minutiae, there isn't even any foreshadowing, it's like reading a transcript of somebody's tea break." I gave up and found something interesting to read instead. I strongly suspect this is the literary equivalent of someone saying, "You should see The Sixth Sense! [Spoiler Alert]It's about this doctor who dies and harasses a kid as a ghost!" In other words, I think the scary scary occult evil picture was the climax of the book, a reward for slogging through all the other tripe, and people made the spoiler into the hook.

Honestly, I am firmly convinced that all Russian literature is dreary and depressing, and that that is in fact their culture. I got a degree in it, and read some of the books in the original language. They were okay, just dead depressing. AK, however, is primarily composed of stagnant idiocy. I like Jane Austen. Jane Austen rocks hardcore. Novels of manners rock my socks. AK, supposedly a novel of manners, is roughly 5 million pages of a couple of boring idiots having an affair and wavering over whether or not it's okay. You don't even get the racy bits - they're alluded to in stiff polite bouts of wavering, sandwiched in between long stretches of windblown minutia as far as the eye can see. It is the second book I never bothered to finish - see above for the first. I borrowed the Cliffs Notes and fudged the quiz.

Aw, The Picture of Dorian Grey isn't good? sad I haven't read it yet, but its on my ridiculously long "To Read" list. Maybe I'll take it off...or just skim through it to see if I like it before I decide to thoroughly read it.
