Hydrokinesis? What on Earth is hydrokinesis? Kaltrina thought as the Doctor spoke to her. Hydro- meant water, and kinesis was motion or physical movement, she knew the prefix and the word base, but her mind refused to wrap around the implications of the two combined together. It wasn't possible that she had the ability to move water. Water was a liquid and wouldn't move just because she wanted to. She'd never had the power before, and it wasn't possible that she had it now, was it?
She bit her lip as she thought, fear beginning to build within her, but the doctor held out a cup of water to her, and she forgot her fear at the relief of cool liquid sliding down her parched throat. She barely even noticed as he began writing things about her on his clipboard and made no outward sign that she had seen, though her ears caught the scratching of pen on paper. Something was wrong, and she knew it, if only she could figure out just what that "something" was. They had been brought here to find a cure for scarcinoma and now the doctor was saying something about contro0lling water; was she in some kind of drug induced hallucination or dream? That was the only possiblility she could think of at this point. She hid her confusion in her cup, staring into it even after she had finished the last drop of water. Yes, it was a dream; she'd never had so vivid and odd a dream, but she supposed her mind was was having a creative hayday making up possibilities of the operation going wrong. Well if it were only a dream, she might as well hear the doctor out. She watched as the black-haired girl silently shook her head in reply to the doctor and the brunette asked for a glass of water as she had, though not with nearly as much rasping as she'd had.
Coloring prettily, she shook her head and focused her attention on the doctor, waiting for his explanation.

Eviane showed no emotion as Kyrian walked into the building. A small grunt issued from his lips as Kyrian complained about the state of the Resistance's safe house. "I'm sorry that it's not to your liking, but it's the best we have at the moment." Eviane rolled his shoulders after hoisting himself up onto the desk he was leaning on.
Lying down, putting his hands behind his head Eviane let out a small sigh, as he stared up at the ceiling. "I have no idea if he will make more or not. Them, us, we're his experiments. Only difference is, those five are considered a success, while we are failures." Taking a pause to think about the 'failures' who now made up the three leaders of the Resistance. "But," he continued on. "Judging by the dear Doctor's character, he won't make any more, at least not for a while. The Government wanted him to succeed so that they could use these peoples abilities to strike a new form of fear into the hearts of the citizens. Now that he's acheived that, he won't need to make more until the five of them are dead."
Leaning up on his elbows, Eviane looked over to Kyrian. "Well..." He started. "There are two options." Swinging his legs over the edge of the desk, he stood, and drew the blood from the floor into the air, forming his blood-wire. A small smirk came over his features for a quick second. "We either kill them, or the more diplomatic option, we convert them to our cause." With that he let the blood drop to the floor with the last syllable, illustrating his point.
The Doctor got out of his chair and walked over to Arabelle's bed, and poured her a glass of water in the same fashion as he did before. Handing the glass to her, he turned around and stood near hte doorway once again. "Ok," He said, addressing the three of them. "Make sure you stay seated, cause I'm sure that this will not make sense to you the first go over." The Doctor paused for dramatic effect, a small smile curving the sides of his mouth upwards. "When you were taken here you were told that you were going to help us in helping find a cure for Scarcinoma. That was a lie."
Dr. Covington waited again in order to let that piece of information set in. "What you are here for was a surgery that unlocked abilities, per se. Now, we've done many experiments before all of which failed horribly. You five are the first subjects to have successfully undergone this surgery, survived, and ended up with abilities. These abilities are Pyrokinesis, Hydrokinesis, Aerokinesis, Psychokinesis and Telekinesis." The Doctor said. James pulled up a chair and sat in it, waiting to see what they would say to this new information.

Terra was predictable if nothing else. Both hands were plunged deep into freshly fertilized topsoil when she felt the vibration in her pocket and the soft ring tone. She shifted her weight off of one knee, smeared a hand on her jeans, and pulled out the phone. Without even looking at the sender she knew the topic: she could count on one hand the people who knew her well enough to have her number. Sighing to herself, she shook her head, and raked some rich earth back where she had made a hole. The planting could wait for another day- no doubt her comrades were in a tizzy over the knowledge of others like them.
Others. It was expected, but odd. She had gotten used to this lonely existence. To have more added, even if they were on the other side- it felt foreign. Wrong.
No one stopped her on her way to the headquarters. To be honest, it was most likely because she blended in with the surroundings better than the men. While they were usually clean and kept, her jeans had long been stained from her extensive gardening hobby and career and they had begun to wear a bit thin at the knees from kneeling in the dirt. Though her hands and face were washed, smudges often ended up on her cheek, forehead, or neck. Today, there was a half-dollar sized spot that almost looked like crumbled chocolate on her jaw.
Terra combed her curls with a hand before entering the building, stepping over the debris nimbly as she heard the conversation that had started farther inside. The dull thud of her boots echoed as they hit trash, shattering the unnerving quiet that had filled the gaps between their words. She laughed lightly at their comments, a charismatic grin lighting up her features as she approached them.
"Why so glum? I believed in the government at one point, but I've since seen the light. I'm sure once they get a grasp of the situation they are in we'll have more like us, not brainwashed enemies. I'm sure the doctor didn't use soldiers to experiment on. No, I bet they are other citizens that have open eyes. We can worry when the soldiers are converted." Her words were light, struggling to overcome the unsaid elephant in the room: they could also become powerful puppets. There were no assurances that the newly created five were not upgrades, that they were not outmatched and outnumbered. To admit such aloud would dishearten Terra and she needed to have some faith before she proceeded onto a plan.
"Besides, I think this is the prime opportunity to show him how we aren't the failures he imagined." Jumping over little pieces of rubble as if they were small hurdles, she bounded to the desk Eviane was laying on and leaned over cautiously. "Do you know who they are? What they're like? What they can do?"

Trin stared at the Doctor when he explained that they'd been lied to and given new abilities. New abilities that sounded like comic books of super heroes come to life. There was just one itty-bitty problem. She didn't want to be a super hero; she just wanted to be safe, clean, warm and fed, not that she'd felt any of those too often recently. "Y-you're kidding, right? Those things, those... abilities... They don't actually exist in real life," she finally said, realizing that this was probably not a dream. Her mind could think of so many things to go wrong, but this wasn't just a problem. This was completely out of this world insane. Her mind wasn't all quite there, but this went above and beyond the fruitcake of her insanity. It was more like a wedding cake in comparison, so she must be awake and the doctor had come up with this awful story in an attempt to get them in a laughing good mood before he told them the bad news about their real procedures.
Although subconsciously she knew that her rationalization was false, her conscious mind rebelled by clinging to the thought as if it were a lifeline. It has to be a joke. It absolutely has to be a joke.. Then again, would it really be so bad if it weren't a joke? She wouldn't be normal, but they'd protect her, keep her warm and fed, with a roof over her head. Did it matter if they'd given her some random ability so long as she was safe? She felt her body heave a sigh of resignation as she accepted what he said; somehow she knew he wasn't kidding. Questions whirled through her head as she stared at the "Doctor" before her until finally only two questions stood in the forefront of her mind, What do they want from me? What are they willing to give/do to me to get what they want?

Kyrian’s mouth snapped shut when the woman entered. She was petite and lovely under the filth. Her voice was delicate and feminine, as it should be, and appealed to him, “Hello to you too.” He looked her over appreciatively while she ignored him. The idea of converting the new five to their cause appealed to him more than taking their lives.
“You seem optimistic that they’ll switch sides. We don’t know what their circumstances are and what do we have to offer them? We can’t promise that they won’t return to some deplorable state or something even worse, but they government can and that’s quite an incentive.” But Terra was right about one thing, the doctor wouldn’t risk working on soldiers and failing, “I think a better question is when will he bestow these gifts on soldiers.”
Certain thoughts began to roll around in his head as he sat quietly and started into his palm. What kind of precautions were they taking to keep their latest experiments in line? How would they get to them? And what hell would they if and when they were able to accomplish that? Automatically he reached into his pocket and pulled out a plastic cylinder of pills. With his thumb he pried the top loose, shook two pills into his palm and swallowed them dry. He suppressed the urge to press his fingers to the center of his chest as was his habit when he was alone, “Not to add to list of questions but where do we get more information about them so we can plan.”

Anna stared blankly at the doctor. What was he telling them? Did she and the other really have these powers he told them they had? She instantly found herself pondering which one she had. Hydrokinesis was out, since it seemed another girl had that. So which one did she have?
Her thought were interrupted when a girl spoke, the one she suspected had Hydrokinesis. Anna didn't think that way. She always wanted to be believe in magic, vampires, and all those things; one of the goth stereotypes proven true once again. Though, she never really thought any of it would actually happen! She wasn't jumping for joy or anything, but it was way cool to have some sort of power. Then again came the question, what power did she have?
She was hardly an expert, but she figured she should rule out the elements. Anna figured maybe she would feel something along the lines of hot if she were pyro, and maybe feel really light if she had aerokinesis. Those assumptions were only from what she read online though, so who knew if that was true or not. Her lower lip was attacked by her teeth as she thought. Shouldn't a person be really smart to have psychokinesis and telekinesis? Though again, her research on the kenisis's was hardly very accurate at all.

Light filtered through his eyelids. The dark and light left swirling patterns, his eyes darting back and forth. Voices, only a couple words heard.
"Scarcinoma...lie...experiment...abilities."
Finally, the light became too bright as his thoughts began to form. He lifted a hand to his face, and rubbed his eyes of crust. Slowly, he sat up, his eyes still closed. A throbbing pulse began to scatter his weak thoughts. Lazily, his mind connected the few words it had digested. He remembered why he was taken from the streets.
Scarcinoma.
Part of him could not understand. His world consisted of stable things, yet where he lay was not part of his world. The normal world.
He began to feel his face, his body, for any changes. He body part seemed intact except for the bandage around his head. Gingerly, he laid a finger on the top of his head, and inwardly winced from the pain. The throbbing intensified.
Finally, he opened his eyes.
What he first saw was a man, in a white coat and sharp glasses. The man’s face and demeanor told him that was the Doctor. Although he didn’t know his name, he knew this was the man in charge. The smile on the doctor’s face twisted his innards.
Looking side to side, he saw other beds next to him. Three women and one other man, the beds were arranged in a male-female pattern. It seemed that only he and the women were awake. Frowning, he looked back to the doctor.
Nyrio opened his mouth, his voice deep and gravely from disuse.
“What do I have?”

Eviane's lips curved upwards a bit, forming his version of a smile as Terra walked into the room. He was glad to see the third founder of the Resistance. His features reverted back to his normal, serious face, as she came and stood over him, asking a questions at a rapid pace. Sighing, Eviane swung his legs over the edge of the table, and looked at Terra, his face quite close to hers now. "I don't know who they are, I don't know what they're like, but I do know what they can do. Our mole was able to do that much at least before I lost contact." Cracking his neck audibly, Eviane continued on. "It seems their powers are the very same that people fantasize about having. Meaning, the elements, wind, fire, and water. The other two have Psychokinesis and Telekinesis."
Eviane's face grew distant, his eyes glazing over a little, as he became lost in his own thought line. "By now, the patients should just be getting up and about, if my assumptions are correct. This means that they do not know how to use their abilities properly yet. If that's the case.... We might be able to approach them, hoping that none of them go off on a random tangent and somehow use their ability to it's maximum potential." Eviane blinked himself out of his thoughts, realizing he had said them out loud.
Peering around Terra, Eviane watched as Kyrian took his pills. "Gotta keep the ticker going, eh?" He commented lightly. "Anyways, I don't think we have to worry ourselves with the Doctors intentions unless they become destructive. Or, as Kyrian said, when the Doctor starts applying this method to The Government's soldiers." That will be a grim time for humanity.
The Doctor smiled as he listened to their reactions, analyzing them as he went. Replying to their reactions in order, he said, "Yes, they do in fact exist in real life. And believe it or not, all five of you have them. Kaltrina, you have the ability of water, or Hydrokinesis. Anna, you have a mind power, Telekinesis." James paused as one of the male subjects woke up. Good, now we just have one more patient to wake up. "Greetings, Nyrio, welcome back. The surgery was a success, and as I was telling the others you five all have an abilit....." The Doctor was cut off as Nyrio immediately asked which ability he had.
"Well, let me see.... as I remember, you have the power to move objects with your mind. In lamens terms, you have Psychokinesis. Congratulations." The Doctor looked at the four conscious patients, as he took out a small notepad from his back pocket. Holding it up in the air for all to see, he opened it, and put on his reading glasses. "What I have here..." He said, pausing to flip a page. "Are my assumptions as to how you control your powers... although, once you feel able enough we need to take you to our facility down the hall and get you using them. That way we'll be able to help you master your abilities. After that, we will start giving you some tasks to be performed outside this complex."
"You five are not only the first five to survive the procedure and end up with abilities, but you are the first five to be part of the newly formed GAS, or Government Aptitude Squad. You will be sent out, once your have mastered your abilities, to run some errands for the Government. Just small ones, nothing too strenuous." The Doctor said, knowing full well what these errands detailed.

Shane blinked, the sudden brightness of the light made him immediatly close his eyes again, but his vision had been dark for so long. He really wanted to see. Squinting through his eye lashes, he looked at the lights above him, then sat up. The sudden head rush made him feel woozy, on top of the drowsiness he already was experiencing. It almost was enough to make him lie back down and go right back to sleep.
As the sleep ebbed away, leaving the pain in his head to take its place. It throbbed, and reminded him for something he couldn't place his finger on. One hand went up to cradle his temple, feeling the bandage then flinching away from his own hand when pressure was applied. This made him curious, trying to remember when he hurt his head.
Shane caught bits and pieces of the conversation until it captured his interest. Powers. The very forces of nature he and his people had worshiped. Did he have any too?
"Me?" He asked in his rough voice, while pointing to himself and looking at the doctor with the utmost curiosity in his eyes.

"Kyrian," Terra scolded lightly, flitting over to him and plucking away the bottle. "Are you all right? Should you really be taking two at a time?" That was how she was. Even in her most casual moments she was maternal- whether it be reigning down punishment or gently nurturing. In was no stretch of the imagination to consider her an extension of Mother Nature herself. Despite her intervening, she didn't read what the medication, turning it over in her hand purposefully so she couldn't read the label. She was nosy, but she didn't want to offend her dear friend.
"Don't you think it's odd? None of them have the same powers as us. No repeats." She jiggled the bottle once in thought, her eyes slipping around the room as words flowed out of her mouth. "Even with our differences, we have something that the good doctor does not. He can't tell them how it feels to be different, to have these powers. He can't tell them he's like them, that he's the fourth element to their three."
"In any case," she said, her voice bounding back with renewed strength- for it had unintentionally dropped to a more hushed tone. "They tend to underestimate us. I imagine they haven't realized what makes us so dangerous and will make their new patients so easily turned. When they took us we lost everything and we had to start over... and even if they aren't angry at the losses they suffered, the government will not change. They will not hand their test subjects anything willingly- which will mean our future comrades have nothing to lose."
"Mmmm, let's go find them! I have to now what they look like. Do you think the doctor prefers blondes?" she joked as she started to trudge over the rubble in the room, holding out Kyrian's pill bottle as if it were a tempting carrot to convince him to follow. Of course he'd follow of his own accord- they were both adults- but she'd have to go back into a very grim world in a moment and this moment of childishness was soothing. It made her remember that she was in her early twenties, not her early forties.

Eviane caught up to Terra quickly, and took her wrist lightly. "Slow down there. We can't go rushing into this, we need a plan. I know where the building is that the Five are in.... but getting in and out safely is a whole other matter. Just take it slow, we can figure something out on the way. No point in rushing in and getting killed, no is there?" Eviane released her wrist. He only wanted to stop her long enough to hear him out. The last thing Eviane wanted was for the three or them to be killed before they could even start their mission.
Turning to Kyrian he motioned to follow. "C'mon Kyrian, before Miss Terra walks away with your medicine." Eviane let out a chuckle, which was seldom heard from him, but he didn't care. Despite the daunting task of trying to get in contact with the Doctors patients, Eviane was in a good mood.
Stepping out of the dilapidated building that was their current meeting place, Eviane stuck his hands into his jacket pockets, looking around to make sure that there was no Government curfew-enforcers lurking around. "This way." Eviane said, barely audible to the other two. He turned right and headed down the dimly lit street. The streets were like this all over town except for the shopping district. Despite the street lights, it was still dark in the city. Maybe it was because of the over-bearing atmosphere of The Government, or maybe it was the combined aura of the repressed people living in this city... either way, Eviane did not like it. Seeing the city like this after he had gained his abilities was what made Eviane seek out others like him in order to fight against The Government, so that the people could eventually, hopefully, be free of this dystopic world.

Psychokinesis.
Once again, this was another step out of the practical reality that Nyrio was familiar with. Nyrio knew that Psychokinesis had something to do with moving objects with mind power alone, but him? Him having Psychokinesis?
His brain throbbed again, as if to answer his question.
He watched the doctor, as he moved, as he spoke, and Nyrio decided that he didn't trust him. Whatever sham this was, he knew that the doctor was the the evil genuis in the middle of it.
GAS. What kind of s**t was that?

So, Telekinesis was it? Well that surprised her, she didn't think she was the one that would have the mind power. Well, in all that she had read about the kinesis she had, it did seem pretty cool. At least it was a power she could fight with. She didn't know if this place was so safe anymore after all, she could very well have to try and get out. Telekinesis would surely help with escaping.
GAS, she could not help but be amused at the shortening of the squad name. Whoever had Pyrokinesis could set fire to GAS, and... The edges of her lips rose in an amused smile. Just as soon as the smile appeared though, it faded. Now was not the time to amuse herself and other such things.
Anna had to learn how to use her powers and fast if she decided to leave. She was sure the Doctor and others would not let her go freely. She nodded silently to the Doctor in acknowledgment to his words as she thought of what the errands would be.

((OOC: Hey guys, sorry for the uber long absence. A lot of thing have been going on lately, with family, school, and college junk, but it's all out of the way now. Mostly. So I'm back.))
Staring on in mild shock, Arabelle took in the doctor's words with the utmost curiosity, her mind too riddled with confusion and questions to be in a state of panic over the news. Pyrokinesis... And kind of 'kinesis', really. What exactly had happened to give them these abilities...? And who had signed them up for government recruitment? She didn't remember much of anything...
Pressing a hand to the back of her head lightly, as if to dull the ache that echoed through the back of her skull, Arabelle kept her mouth shut for the time being; if she were to lash out against her newly assigned job, she might be in for more than a rude awakening. It would be best to just play along for now.
As she continued listening, the water cup held between both hands, Arabelle became increasingly enveloped in her own thoughts, the pace spiking drastically at the doctor's mention of the 'Government Aptitude Squad'; whatever kind of organization this was, it couldn't possibly have been any good. To have to lie to innocent people, whisk them away to a government building and push them through an operation that had killed all but these few... Glancing at the other test subjects, Arabelle could hear nothing but her pulse pounding through her ears as she became increasingly nervous for herself as well as the others.
Her attention was only broken when she heard the searing 'crack' of breaking glass. Glancing around, she saw no broken glass... And it wasn't until she felt liquid across her skin that she realized it was her own cup that had cracked. Upon lifting the glass, Arabelle noted the cracked cup, as well as the water leaking out of it. But what interested her the most was that the water was bubbling... Boiling. Much like her blood had felt like while waking from her drug-induced sleep. Tearing her gaze from the cup to the doctor, Arabelle remained still, her mouth just slightly agape.
"...P-pyro...kinesis?"

((I'm sorry for my absence as well as the rather short post. Writer's block combined with school are getting me down lately.))
Kaltrina glanced around the room at the others' faces, and especially at the two men who had just woken. They didn't seem too shocked in general, but were blankly silent as they absorbed the information being given to them. Only the girl who'd asked for a glass of water after her seemed to be exhibiting any emotions at all as the water in her cup boiled merrily along before cracking and drawing her attention.
The girl stumbled out a word, sounding just as shocked as Kaltrina felt, and for a moment she felt a kinship with her. Thank goodness she wasn't the only one who could show emotion in this group of stoic figures. It wasn't until then that the doctor's final words actually permeated into her brain. We were the first to survive... does that mean that others died and they continued the experiments regardless of the deaths? She shivered at the thought, trying to put it aside; it would do no good for her to ask, for if it were true, then they would probably have no trouble killing their subjects for asking too many questions. Instead, she considered the group they'd been enlisted into. There didn't seem to be much of a choice for them: obey the government and carry out their errands and be given food, clothing, and shelter or be left back out on the streets without anything or possibly be killed for refusing to follow orders. It didn't take a genius to decide which choice would be a better one.
Although she wondered what they'd be sent out to do, she tried not to think about it too much as she voiced the decision she'd come to in a question that made her intent quite obvious, "When will we begin?"
