@Phantom: Haha, I wasn't knocking you or anything. I'm actually just curious to know why the mangaka suddenly changed her skintone. It would have been great to see some cultural diversity in Sailor Moon.
Oh, and to set the record straight, everybody:PLUTO IS NOT A PLANET! Get over it, dudes! (,,#゚Д゚):∴;'・,;`:ゴルァ!!

BanditKitty: I shall have to do some research on mythological Saturn, all I really know about it is that he was the god of reaping the harvest and he carried a sickle around. Also, Saturn is how we got the name for Saturday And thanks for the compliment on my cosplay =D
Cheremy: Perhaps because Japan is homogeneous and Sailor Moon was so popular? I dunno, all it says on wikipedia is "Sailor Pluto is much darker in her initial form in the manga, identified as the "Guardian of the Underworld" with very dark skin and a black sailor uniform"

MidBossVyers meGgi e s t A e R I a MidBossVyers The word technically shouldn't be scout. It should be senshi or soldier. If it technically should be senshi, then why even translate any of it to English? =/
My guess is "scout" is the closest word they could come up with to cover it.The closest word is soldier, as I have written above. The full title of Sailor Moon is Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, or in English: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. Well, bawwww. They changed one word, big deal.

I've never read the manga, so I don't know if Sailor Pluto was evil or not but, if so, where's the decency in illustrating dark skin to correspond with evilness? Let me know if that's not the case though, so I don't look silly (^__^;; )

She even teaches her a charm. Chibi-Usa says that Pluto was her first real friend.
The only real "evil" thing that Pluto does is tries to kill Sailor Moon when the Scouts come by the Door of Time, they not knowing what the door or Pluto are, Pluto thinking that they are evil invaders. She does one attempt, then...either recognizes them or they say "Hey, you're a Scout too!" and they all meet each other for the first time. S'been awhile since I read that volume

Oh, fair enough (^^) I guess it's not uncommon for mysterious or strong women to be depicted with darker skin in manga. I wonder why that is...? Ai Yazawa does the same thing with Junko in NANA.

Oddly enough, I'm reading NANA too. I dunno if it's because of the fact that it revolves around guitars/rock & roll, or it's jst interesting, but I'm reading it too xD
Anyway, I could see mysterious women having dark skin in manga, but then why aren't there more of them in any series? Or, I guess in the case of Sailor Moon, Saturn herself is mysterious enough. As time goes on in either both anime or manga, you still don't learn much about her

Fantastic! NANA is my all time favourite manga, so expect me to go completely spazzo if you ever want to dicuss it XD
I'm sure we could draw up a list of dark-skinned Japanese women in manga if we tried reeeeaaally hard, but we're both familiar with the common Japanese belief that pale is beautiful, which I suppose may be what fizzled out Takeuchi's desire to continue using dark-skinned women in Sailor Moon. Plus, your explaination sorta puts to bed the connection to mysteriousness (^^;; )

I s'pose. But I do like Pluto as a darker Scout. She's awesome looking. Honestly, I think she'd look great in Indian clothes moreso than kimonos, but that's just me xD

Ya, I know...I wonder if it was Naoko's choice to change her when the anime came, or the production team's...?
By the way, the 12th NANA came out the other day. I have it, but I haven't read it yet

Cheremy LeBeau Oh, and to set the record straight, everybody:PLUTO IS NOT A PLANET! Get over it, dudes! (,,#゚Д゚):∴;'・,;`:ゴルァ!! Lolwut? Yeah, it is. ******** what the scientists have to say. Ah well. If it were to come hurtling towards Earth, it wouldn't matter if it were a planet or nothing but a big hunk of rock and ice anyways. We'd be ******** either way. xd In any case, I was raised with the belief that Pluto was a planet, so I'm gonna stick with what I was taught. It's easier for me.

All I can say about Pluto being considered a planet is that only scientists said it wasn't. Pluto will always be a planet in my heart XD Just because someone says, 'Hey, I have proven you aren't a human' doesn't mean you should believe them razz (an extreme example rofl )
