I hate the "pit is so lazy" attitude that the drumline and basically the rest of the world seems to have. We are so much more skilled than them. Anyone can stand and hit a drum, and it's not like it's that hard to do paradiddles, flams, or double stroke rolls. Pit has to move and listen to the stupid drumline for the beat. Even though my best friend plays snare, I know she thinks that us pit players are lazy. AHHH!!! It really pisses me off. I love pit! We own!!!

HECK YEAH!!! if anyone is lazy, it's the rest of the Band!!!!they all whine and complain about how heavy their instrument is but who are the ones loading their stuff into the truck? hello, Pit's always on loading crew, now and forever...I'd like to see some of the flute players lift my marimba up onto the truck...then we'll see if they call us lazy ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no one ever helps pit push our equipment back to the band room after practice. they just complain and stand around. if no one tells them to do anything, they just leave. scream
and for the record, pit works twice as hard as some of the other sections.

Yeah, it's bull how they call us lazy when they dont have to push our insturments. But when told they do help. Jeez I'm just glad that we didnt have a timipani player this year, it was nice not having to pull those things out.

exactly, if the band directer doesn't order the band to help, they wont. And we have this huge hill that we have to push our instuments up and down. We're are always late for our next class because no one will help out.

because....
You just stand there and bang on marimbas and such without marching or carrying a 20 pound instrument on your shoulders....

talk to the tubas about 5/8 marching over 5 yard lines.

I had to deal with both sides, I marched with a bell set for two years and did pit for two years, and I have to say that pit kids work just as hard as the rest as the band. Yeah it's a pain to carry a heavy-a** instrument but we ended up with the more complex music in the end. The only reason our band took so long to learn the marching is because half of them can't comprehend the idea of a straight line. During pit this year people told me they hated me at least twice a day cause we always got done earlier. We worked hard and hardly took breaks so we learned the music quick, with three kids that didn't even know how to play percussion at all too.

Not to mention, hauling a timpani cart (or any other big instrument) around is no day at the beach.

Though I will say I know a couple people in our pit that only joined due to laze. >>
And that pisses. me. off.
Band should be about expressing a love of music and the instrument you play. Not choosing whichever they THINK is easiest so you can bum around on your a** all day long.

And I bet those lazy ones looooved hearing about our 8 hour Friday night practices during winter drums.
Heh.

ok heres how our marching season is. the band helps take out the pits things then the band goes through an hour and a half of sets and sweating in 90 degree weather then 10 min before the bell rings the pit carries their things inside and then when the band comes in they complain about how hard their job is and how hard it is taking their instruments in and out...and when it comes to loading and unloading the truck everybody pitch in it goes 10 times faster and weve been doing it that way for years...pit i know everyone is ganging up on you but really get over it

Yeah I'd say our drumline is the laziest section...
I can't march so I joined the Pit and i love it! And the only reason we got done learning our music in like 3 months time was because our Pit instructer made us work hard and then we got to chill a lot. whee we still practiced hard but our marchers took all this time hanging out and getting their sets wrong. rolleyes
but yeah, so we had this thing where a section was picked each practice to help put the Pit equipment away. we got it all out at the start of practice and then another section helped put it away. they got pretty good at it, our kids are sometimes nice...but those drummers! god, everytime it was their turn, maybe one or two out of our 15 membered drumline came and helped out. The section leader would call a little "meeting" and talk to them. It was sooo annoying! They're definitly the laziest section in our band. rolleyes
Plus, (heh heh i'm not finished! yay ranting time!), our Pit seems to get blamed everytime we would go through a little run through a certain section or other, about us playing too loud or too fast/slow. I mean seriously we were the one's with trouble?! Half the band couldn't be heard because they weren't PLAYING!
Now don't get me wrong I love our marchers and pretty much everyone in my school's band, but I just get annoyed with how we're called lazy.

For us, our pit is amazing but the drumline was lazy all season. They started to get better around 3 weeks before championships, but still.

The only person i'd say needs to um.. pay attention more in pit, is the one that couldn't hit a triangle every three counts. He'd hit it every 2 or every 4, then a 3, etc etc.
Yeah.

pit is hard, we have to make up for the sound lag s**t and we play everything they can't play while marching. xDDD Lets see them master it. I've been both a marcher and a mallet percussionist and I tell you other than the sheer physical factor, it's as difficult if not more.

tell flutes they're a bunch of pansy cocknabbers and they'll never amount to anything ie: jethro tull dramallama

(ps gaia mods: it's called sarcasm.)

I hate it when Wind players do that! (our drumline is really awesome and dont really say that kind of stuff to our faces, but they do have their moments -_-)

What really pisses me off is that our pit puts in 10x the rehearsal than the rest of our band.

Pit may not be as phsyically challenging, but it puts much more pressure on us to perform, play our hearts out, and not cause any major tears.

*end rant*

My respect for the pit is second only to battery. Some of the stuff they do is insane.

4 mallet 32nd note runs = insane.
