You guys must have horrible oboes. The oboes in our band sound good like the poster above, it sounds pretty, if the oboeist is good. Trumpet are WAY worse than woodwinds. Piccolos, oboes, clarinets, and flutes sound perfect compared the the grinding/ripping of the trumpets.

Piccolos, only because they sound way to sqeaky and annoying even in a GOOD players hands.
I love the way oboes sound when someone actually plays it well, but our player is the worst oboist and possibly the worst musician on earth; so I don't get to hear good oboes much.

phantomness Most definitely the piccolo! *Covers ears* *puts ear plug right ear, begins to play* Yes, I play the piccolo, and I ALMOST went deaf when I had to play the high F. Definately the most annoying (yet fun) instrument. Or the Oboe, the oboe in our band is...not very...well...good. It sounds kind of like humming with mosqitoes in your nose would sound like: ANNOYING.

The picc, flute, clarinet, and trumpet I can stand. I've never liked the sound of an oboe, especially since most people that play it are out-of-tune unless they know what they're doing.
However, the reed instruments are really annoying when they make squeaks.

Piccolo. It's too high pitched! >_<
Three of our flute players switched to piccolo for one song, though, and they sounded okay. I just hated tuning...it hurt me. :[

However, the reed instruments are really annoying when they make squeaks. that is true about the reed instruments..i play the tenor sax and i only squeaked maybe 5 times (and luckily that was at home) and i never did it again since its so annoying..i love the tenor sax when you play it right...and obviously i play it right or i wouldnt be playing it..i mess up on some low notes and it drives me crazy so i practice practice practice so no one has to hear that awful sound again..IMPORTANT TO WOOD WIND PLAYERS...if you see that your reed has a crack dont continue to play with the reed..i dont care if you have to drive accross the country to get another reed..do not play on a cracked reed..its so annoying...if you play on a cracked reed i swear you will get a headache the first minute you play..
