Tam growls testily and lifts the cat from his face, giving him a hug, then tucking him back into bed by his side. "Lady of Night... what did ye have to eat last night... that was atrocious!" he complains getting up to wash his face.

Tam turns and looks at him. "Ye've been coughing an awful lot, Kero... are ye sure yer ok?" He comes over and sits by the cub and examines him worriedly.

Sighing, Tam goes out to the kitchen to make himself something to eat. There he finds Hopian hard at work on his charms and amulets. "Looking good." he remarks lightly pouring himself a cup of hot water for tea.

"One or two, the notes ye gave me to begin with have been a great help... but we still knock heads over the dumbest things... He's so damn honor bound as an adult I find it hard to deal with his I'll fix it at any cost now approach... he really doesn't listen at times and it gets on my nerves... I try to be firm and not let him walk on me, but there are times when it doesn't matter how firm I am, he still does what he damn pleases. Like those darn instruments... he destroyed them himself, ye know... because I ask for them as part of his punishment..."
Tam kneels by the fire and toasts his bread and cheese. "He's got a terrible temper. I never realized how angry he can get until recently. It's really hard to reconcile... how gentle he can be one moment and how deadly he can be the next... and so out of control."

Alright...you know of my brother's rage now, so I can tell you this much...once his eyes glow red...run...that's all you can do, really...as for the instruments, he showed me what you did...he destroyed them because he was enraged at you, not because you were punishing him, but because you destroyed his work...
As for walking all over you...the best approach I found when I raised him...yes, I've done this too...was to gradually get firmer and harsher as he grew more defiant...if I put him in a corner for five and he left, I picked him up and replaced him there, and added anothet three minutes...there were times he wound up in there for more than three quarters of an hour. Likewise, there was a set punishment that fit each crime...curse at me...get your mouth washed out...I have soap that cannot cause damage...the bitterness comes from rue, an herb...the soap is actually simple beeswax, perfectly tasteless and edible...
Let's see...what were the others....

Tam sighed and stood up. "I've been trying the three strike approach myself and for the most part it works. And I have set down ground rules, which he agreed to. It shoudl have worked, except he refused to listen. Did he tell ye why I kicked over the gold smelter. I told him why. He understood or at least he said he understood."
He sat down and drained his tea, watching Hopian work. "To get that gold, he expressly left the cottage against my permission. Had he stayed and listened none of this would have happened... or rather none of it would have been so bad. I sent him to his room. I was going to take him to see Br. Mica the following morning and he snuck out. If only he had listened... that is all it boils down to. I mean he was already in so much trouble, ye think ye would have tried to keep from getting is worse trouble."

Even as a cub, my brother feels the call of honor...unfortunately, if he feels he is doing the right thing, he justifies it...and your three strike approach is good...but I will tell you that grounding...which he said you use...will do you absolutely no good...Kero has one of the most vivid imaginations I have ever seen...so...no go on the grounding...he can just invent stories to entertain himself...
And yes, he told me why you kicked it over...but he also told me that he felt you were overreacting...at least, he did at the time...he doesn't now...although he wishes you would have just taken it away or banished the salamander...
