Tam sighs and curls up under a bush, settling down for a long wait. He knows better than to follow Kerobian into a rock tunnel. He has no desire to get brained by the flying debris which is piling up outside the tunnel at an enormous rate.

*Finally, the tunneling stops...as does the screeching and the flying debris...Kero's voice comes out of the tunnel*
Oh...man...I am in so much trouble...There's no way...I'm not getting out of this with a painless rump...even if Hopian comes in after me...oh dear....

Tam creeps gingerly to the tunnel's entrance, cautiously avoiding pitfalls and hoping that nothing else comes flying out. "Kero, are ye ok, Taro?" he calls down into the darkness.

"Ye sounded pretty upset, ye need help or anything?" calls the foz looking at the hole with aprehension. This one runs deep and steep. He's liable to break his neck if he tries to climb down.
(IM me when ye get back... I'll listen for the chime... going to clean the kitchen...)

*Kero soon comes crawling out...his prize in his paws...a flawless diamond...like a chunk of ice...though there is a tinge of blueish green to it...and it is also about the size of an apple*

Tam eyes grow the size of saucers and he begins to laugh. "Kero, Taro... ye have some of the luckiest unluckiest streaks I know. There's no way we can keep that and no way we can sell it. No one, and I mean no one, has the money to buy it. Heck, even iffin ye gave it to the temple, they couldn't get rid of it either. Dang, it would be a shame to rebury it. But iffin word got out it was in the village, we'd be sacked and burned to the ground by every Tom, d**k, and Harry who wants the damn thing. Talk about a curse of surplus... Ye could start a war over it that would never end."

*Kero shakes his head....and holds it up over his crescent...when it is snatched away, by none other than Hopian himself*
My stars...such a valuable prize...and such beauty...twill make a fine amulet...for only one of my skill can truly carve this thing properly...I can get so much from this gem...Tam...you fouind this????

Tam chuckles sourly. "Like a mules backside I did... It was all Kerobian here. Trouble is.. he went after it blindly, Hopian. Like he was in a trance or something. I've learned not to interfere when he does that, I watch over him from a distance to make sure he' but it is down right scary when he does it... as if he's bespelled or something... what if I'm not around to watch over him... And this thing drew him with such intensely from across so great a distance, it troubles me. Especially since it had to have been there for eons and we've actually been closer to it than this. I know he has a keen sense of smell for such things, but doesn't this strike ye as more than a bit odd."

*Hopian chuckles...and it is almost, but not quite, not without humor*
Kero has always had that sense...and this diamond may have called to him...the larger crystals can do that, you know...I can feel it's desires now...it wants to be fashioned into something beautiful, not to sit out its days as the heart of a mountain...It probably summoned my brother...

"Well... as I can't sense those things I think this is where ye come in. He needs someone to teach him how to channel those summonings into a reasonable response. He can't go off harrying after each and every gem that wants to be dug up like that... blindly and without concern for his own well being. I'm sorry Hopian... tis a thing of beauty true... but he honestly gave no thought as to where he was or what he was doing until it was all over. If one calls and I'm not around to watch over him, it could get out what he is and he's still young enough to trap and snare... It would be difficult, true, but with the right backing of the right mage, it could be done."
Tam looks at Kerobian who is lying on the ground between them, literally wiped and sighs. "Kerobian, dulcha... we need to get ye back home. Tomorrow is going to come mighty darn quick... We've only a few hours to daylight. Want a ride?"

*Kero doesn't even answer...he's out cold...Hopian looks at him*
What do you two have to do tomorrow? Kero's just got school, right? You can just keep him home and claim he's sick...which he will be...you might want to move your foot...he's about to heave...

Tam sighs and steps out of the way. "Ewww... man what has that kid been eating anyway? Dirt? Gross." He makes certain Kero is alright, moves him away from the mess and indicates to Hopian to walk a bit away from the cub. "Darn, I hate it when he does that..." he shudders and sighs once again. "We were to go to his class room so he could try and repair the chalkboard. I doubt he can, but he needs to understand fully the extent of his actions. I also wanted him to talk to Brother Grayson about working it off around the temple. The thing is... that slate was damn expensive, Hopian. I mean we can pay for it, true... but in all honesty... we shouldn't be able to. Neither he or I are anyone important or known to have money. The village just bought it and they really can't afford to replace it either. He's going to be working that thing off for years..."

*Hopian scratches his chin...popping off a roving flea*
Hey...I'm the vampire...or I was...not you...vamoose...I need to get Honorian to burn these guys off again, methinks...
Now, you say you need slate...prepared for a chalkboard...it just so happens I know how to do that...There may be no way to repair it...but I can make it seem like their God replaced it...or a friendly spirit...not Kero...that way, he'll still work...and be punished...but they won't be going without...and I can smell slate in this mountain as well...do you think that it would work? Who do they worship...and what are his signs? Slate takes a few days to prepare with magic...3, to be precise...so I can plan an entrance...

Tam hums his little vermin begone ditty , making certain to include all three of them in his range. He had forgotten that once and sicced them onto one of his best friends, who never quite forgave him of the fact.
"The worship the God of the Morning Sun, Lathander. No doubt he'll be piping in the morning for years to come at this rate, plus polishing the gold around Lathander's Rose window until he gets sick of the color yellow."
