Rain had implied something about your intro being related to being lost, and the area we're exploring is loosely based on a series of "cards" the players submitted that he's randomly selecting from for each area of the region. Of the ones I already wrote we had "Something is spooking the villagers at night", for example. One of my cards is pretty much made exclusively to get people lost.

Talk to him about whatever kind of intro you like/makes sense. I wouldn't wait up on that one anyway, as part of the point is to have more cards than spots we'll visit on the map so we don't know for certain that any given thing will show up.

We... may want to devise a reason to keep Gahl in the party, though. Because if he actually asks the photographic memory mapmaker where Sparrow lands are, she will be able to explain it in enough detail to spell the end of his participation in this game if he chooses to follow those directions. sweatdrop

I had a few ideas for that very thing, technically the orders are to get the thing to the lord. So, what I came up with,
A - Everyone, but Gahl’s lord(and Gahl, for that matter) knew the Sparrow lord wasn’t going to be in the Sparrow lands this month. Because his/her daughter/son was getting married to a Crane. And they were trying to point Gahl to him, not to the castle… though, no one told him that.
B -Same as above, but Gahl’s lord did know, and wanted to wish the happy couple a blessed life, personally, but duties keep him at home instead. Instead of sending a Crab to a Crane festival his lord just wanted Gahl to wait in the friendlier Sparrow lands for the lord’s return. (Unknowing that turn of events would lead Gahl to the Crane lands anyhow.)
Beyond those two, I have…
- An imperial order could/does overstep one given by a lower lord
-Orders changed do to the death of his lord without an heir making Gahl a ronin, but before he can preform the seppku(sp?) Ayame asks him to stay his blade for now, and stay as her guard…. OR another lord takes him as theirs and orders him to stay anyhow...
-Gahl ends up pissing off a Crane lord and Gahl gets the Hostage disadvantage. The adventure then follows along still, just with Gahl trying to get the parcel to the lord(s) in another way… Asking a little imperial lady, for instance...

Sparrow lands are southwest of where you are. Guess what part of the map hasn't been checked yet? Southwest. There's no reason why he couldn't travel with the rest of you that far. Heck, there was an attempt on the Imperial's life, what harm would having an extra heavily-armed body around to protect her be?
And Chapter 2 would not be an immediate next-day continuation of Chapter 1. A month or so would pass (the intent is 3 chapters per year; spring, summer, and autumn). Assuming everyone is on good terms, if/when Ayame is ready for the next map, she could easily requisition Gahl's services.

Hm. True, not hard to ask him to tag along as extra security while she finishes the region since their chosen path will end right on the Sparrow's front door.
