*The next morning, Kero goes off to his testing...he does his best...last night he had decided learning was more important than fun with friends...and when the results come in, he has been put into communal lessons in all but three subjects...music...reading...and (unsuprisingly) magic...he comes home in a bouncy trot*
Sira...I got first place in three subjects...I'm in private lessons!!! I start math tomorrow morning!!! And then my private lessons come after lunch!

Talesian looks up from his work table, where he has been attempting to work out an intricate passage and smiles, pushing his hair behind his ears. "Well, that requires a celebration! What three subjects are ye excelling in... no wait... let me guess... " He holds up three fingers and ticks them off. "Reading... yer penmanship has much to be desired but ye have been able to read almost anything I've thrown at ye of late. And let's see, music... right... but a third... what pray tell am I missing here?" His eyes are twinkling merrily as he reaches down and touches the cub's nose. "Hmmm... would it have something to do with that ability of yer to make almost anything out of the dirt below our feet?"

*Kero shakes his head*
Nope...I'm only second place in Earth studies...there's a miner's boy who beat me...but I placed first in magical studies!!! The answers just came to me...but I knew them...I made 90%...and the priest said the only reason I didn't make 100% was because my opinion questions matched no type of magic he knew of, so he couldn't accept them...no matter how well-thought out they were...

Tam nods thoughtfully. "That is good, Kerobian. Ye should continue to practice that which ye understand, for I believe it to be yer forte... but do not neglect the other forms of magic as well. A thorough study of all forms will allow ye a stronger defense, no matter what is thrown at ye. So... yer free for the rest of the day. What shall we do to celebrate?"
Tam cleans the nib of his pen and stoppers the bottles scattered about the desk. Then he sands the paper before him while he waits for an answer.

*Kero jubilantly pounces on Tam in answer...and they spend the rest of the day romping and playing...they even pack a picnic and go fishing...the next morning, Kero sets off for his lessons, leaving Tam alone at the house*

While it isn't the first time Tam has been alone for a chunk of the day, Tam now realizes this will be a regular occurrence and he is looking forward to the fact. He quickly cleans up their breakfast remains, sets out a sketchy lunch and tidies the front room. The he returns to his work from the day before. He had forgotten how hard it was to compose on the move, having been with the cub for seeral years now, but sitting alone in the cottage the day before and being able to work without interruption was a dream he had not even begun to express. He reaches into his air pocket and pulls out a full sized concert harp, manhandles it next his work table and begins to noodle his way through a difficult run of chords and arpeggios that he had set aside in lieu of raising the cub in the first place.

*Kero soon comes home...a pile of papers tied to his tail...apparently the priests thought things through...he goes and sits down, starting to work out his problems that his private tutors assigned him...his magic homework gives him no trouble...though he realized that private lessons weren't what he thought...they were lessons for the top three students who tested for that subject...music...piece of cake...and he's done with his reading in ten minutes, then he goes to his Sira, asking if he can go out and play*

Tam cleans his nib and brushes his hair away form his face. Somewhere along the line that morning he lost his hair tie and hasn't replaced it. It appears he needs a keeper himself at times. Now there's a dark streak of ink on one cheek wich makes Kero giggle.
"Why not tell me a little about what ye've just done and then ye can go out, ok? What is your magic instructor covering with you anyway. Anyway I can help there??

*Kero laughs*
We're just covering the basic forms of magic now...you know...musical...elelmental...to determine my aptitude...I seem to have a great talent for natural magic...like magic is an intrinsic part of my being...and he says I have talent for fire-magic...that that's why I hate being cold so much!

"Does he realize yer race comes from a desert habitat?" asks Tam with a chuckle. "Some people forget that creatures from various regions really don't do well in elements that vary greatly from the lands they live in. I mean if ye take a creature from the tropics and plop it down in the icelands, it's gonna die?"

Tam sighs and shakes his head as he begins to stack his papers. "Only that even iffin ye didn't have an affinity for fire magic, ye'd still have difficulty with the cold." He dramatically rolls his eyes and makes a face. "Just like ye won't catch me skinny dipping in a glacier pool. I'm not belittling what he said, kiddo. He's reading ye correctly and that is good... but that is something ye need to know. Snow foxes die in the heat and parrots freeze in the cold. And ye look about to perish from hunger. What time is it anyway?"
Tam stands up and stretches with a groan. "Ack, I'm all stiff. Let's eat."

*Kero nods...happily munching his supper...then goes oevr to Tam and snuggles up close to him*
Amrito vek, Sira...
*And for two weeks...that was how it went on...then Kero came home one day...and he told Tam one of the kids in another class had taught him a neat trick...how to fold a sheet of parchment so that it flew when it was thrown...and he pulls out one of his sheets, demonstarting...Tam has no choice but to be impressed...the makeshift glider sails over a hundred feet*

**impressive since the cottage is only a fraction of that in length... now repair that hole in the wall before he gets angry... rofl **
Tam smiles. "That's pretty good, Kero. Did ye know that iffin ye fold it this way it won't go as far, but it does loops and comes back to ye." Tam shows him the new folds and goes to dig the first one out of the mortar work.

*Kero blushes...he had found that a weight in front made it travel far...so had sculpted points on them out of his venom to make them cut through the air...and he tries the new folds...than laughs when it flies back to him*
Awesome...thanks, Sira...
