No and I have always wondered why people get them confused. I think people think that goths are depressed because of the color black. People tend to associate black with despair, depression, or sorrow. It's a bad habit of associating colors with certain feelings.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with legitimate visual stimulus and the reaction our brain has to them or anything, it's clearly just a bad habit. You sound like you're depressed, is it because you're goth?

Well, s**t. I should be depressed for being a funeral director and wearing black all the time too.
Or wait, is it because I deal with death all the time?
I can't decide!
Can someone help me understand why I'm depressed?!?!?!

I am a depressive person. By that I mean I have depressive episodes every 6 months or so. When I'm not in one of those, I'm very happy though.
And my choice of clothes/music wasn't influenced by my depression.

...and case closed! There, now that we've settled it, this thread can fade into happy obscurity.

Oh, this thread is so silly! Well, it wouldn't surprise me if all or most goths have or had went through regular periods of sadness, frustration, or anxiety, but "depressed" is a medical term which I don't believe defines the gothic subculture. Of course, an interest in the spooky is required, but as far as I know that doesn't spring from any kind of depression. cool
I also have a tendency to be annoyingly cheerful. heart
